Florida GOP Chair arrested for Fraud

Jim Greer shaved his face one last time as Florida Department of Law Enforcement officers pounded on his front door at 10 a.m. Wednesday. It was a rushed job. As they led him outside in handcuffs, small cuts dotted his skin.

Greer, the former Florida GOP Chairman and a former Oviedo City Councilman, was arrested on one count of organized crime, one count of money laundering and four counts of grand theft after a three-month FDLE investigation alleged that he had been smuggling money raised to help him get elected to the chairman position. He allegedly used the cash to fund his personal lifestyle.

At the beginning of his second term as chairman, Greer appointed Delmar Johnson III as the Republican Party of Florida executive director and fundraiser. According to the investigation, the two had decided to take and split 10 percent of the major campaign donations raised by Victory Strategies, a fundraising company Greer and Johnson own.
