"Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the federal government's response manager, called the development a "significant step forward." Next, BP will attempt to capture the oil by lowering a containment dome over the ruptured well and start siphoning the oil to the surface, he said."

A little good news for once about this oil spill

I hope BP fixes this spill soon, for their sake, and more importantly for the oceans sake!

I think this idea has a great chance of working...I thought the original dome was supposed to do this in the first place. It never made since to me why they didn't just make an umbrella siphon deal...or at least to help contain it.

I find it amazing that the solution they are wanting us to be happy about was the one where they get to continue to collect oil.

And the one that would have closed the well up just didn't pan out.

The tophat was always BP's intended solution. They want that oil... they believe it's their 'property.'

Way to stall, guys.

Now watch as they plead fiscal crisis when it comes time to pay up.

The Admiral just guaranteed himself a job in the oil industry...

Everybody that matters to them wins!

they can't lower that cap over that gushing oil though. All of that upward pressure is surely going to keep knocking that cap away from the riser...

Don't you think?

I'm also not sure, but I'm thinking the pressure of all the water above the dome will help keep it in place.

Guys.. we've already tried this once.. the pipes froze.. yada yada yada.. what did cutting the pipe have to do with placing ANOTHER dome over it?? nothing.. it served no purpose. The logic behind cutting the pipe was supposedly to get a flat, round terminal to the pipe so a fitting could be placed over it, or compression coupling placed inside or out.

They have run out of ideas, and are only still doing things to appease the public. Get ready for the dog and pony show to go on like this until August. THEY'RE SAYING DECEMBER NOW?!? WHY THOSE SORRY NO GO..

DID YOU GUYS NOT NOTICE THE METHYL-HYDRATE TUBES RUNNING INTO THE CAP? THEY ARE THERE.. BTW, THE LINE ABOVE THAT CAP IS EMPTY THEREFORE THE ESCAPING OIL HAS A PLACE TO GO, AND THERE IS NO OVERPRESSURE FROM THE OIL ESCAPING CUT PIPE.
