Yes the present is a product of the past, but you do not repeat the mistakes from the past you learn from them. You're justification of perpetrating unjust actions against one group of people because it was done to another group of people in the past will only succeed in bringing about a vicious never ending cycle of the same unjust practices being carried out over and over again. This way of thinking will never allow us to move foward to a better future, it will keep us forever trapped in the past.

Please explian how the present is screwed up for non-whites due to what whites (that's a very broad term BTW) have done in the past.

How exactly are white people primarily the ones at fault ? White people aren't behooved to do anything, it's up to each individual to make sure that they do everything within their power to be an equal on the playing field.


If you believe that non-whites are the only people that have been treated unfairly, you may want to read up on some history.

I can't speak for other countries as I don't know what the conditions are there, but here in America there is no longer a status quo of unequal status, things have pretty much equaled out over here.

Everyone is free to live where they choose, they are not limited to living within a certain area with only people of the same ethnicity. Everyone is offered the same education in this country, regardless of their ethnicity. It's up to them to take advantage of the opportunities that are available to them, work hard, and put forth the effort to succeed.

We have congressmen, senators, mayors, etc of different ethnicities which testifies to the fact that the playing field is pretty much evened out. The president of our country is a black man, that pretty much says it all. When we have a black man as president don't cry that the non-whites are held back anymore.

This subject of this thread is not about giving anyone a hand up, it's about giving people a hand out.

If that were the case, you and I would be 100% on the same side of the issue. The "hand out" welfare system for example only creates people more dependent on freebies and less inclined to work for what they want. The massive "hand outs" to Africa in the name of relief aid has gone a long way to stifle whatever motivation they may have had to rectify their problems themselves.

I am not in favor of handouts, or blanket discrimination policies and programs. I do, however, favour tailoring programs and services to individual circumstances and needs; even if sometimes that means paying attention to race, or religion or sexual orientation or whatever kind of way there is to discriminate between people.

I highly suspect the motives of some who claim to be totally against racism when it favours their particular agenda.

IMO this is not a hand up, but rather a hand out.


The education and training needed to do the job is being handed to them on a silver platter with no prior effort being given on their part beforehand. However any white applicants must have already gone through their education and graduated, therefore they have already put forth an effort beforehand. I doubt that the white graduates have the luxury of a tax free training allowance either. That is discrimination and it will never solve the problem.

If an even playing field is what's being looked for then the program should be open to all ethnicities, with the available jobs being given to the candidates that have given the best performance and scored the highest on their tests and/or reveiws whichever the case may be. This way the playing field is indeed an equal one. The candidates that do not receive a job will still benefit from the training and education that they have received and will be qualified and able to obtain a job at another company.

Yeah so? We've had that for years here in S.A, since the mid-1990's. For four years in a row, no white men in our parliament got any promotion or raises. Our SABC, for a while, took only non-whites into posts opening up. Don't cry for receiving now what your government wanted to deal to us then. It's called justice. As you deal you shall receive.

International pressure dictated that Black Economic Empowerment should be instated, whites get laid off to make place for blacks and now we have a ratio system. Your employment is not assured by your skills and qualifications, it is dictated by your skin. Roughly 7:2:1. For every ten people employed in a company, 7 black, 2 white, 1 other.

You still have it good. Your majority is white. Now our government has been crying for a few years because our skills are going out of the country. What did they expect when they forced un- or underqualified people into positions they cannot manage and forced skilled people out of their jobs?

To keep a company, stick to the ratios or the .gov disband you. EXCEPT, if your company is more than 7 (even up to 10) in the black ratio and the others less than prescribed. Why do you moan about one post being advertised?

Could it be, that some of you actually saw what happened over here?

Oh how I hate this so-called "positive discrimination".

There is nothing positive about discrimination, there should only be equality for all. But it seems that in certain areas of the world you can be more equal than others.

The UK can thank the last Labour government for things like this, especially people like Harriet Harman, who thinks women should have more rights than men.

Had to quote the whole thing. You probably know about the Boer War of 1899-1902. That our peace was made and all happy afterwards. Except, history is written by the victors. Your history books probably won't tell you about the Boere sending the Redcoats crying back to England after diminishing their ranks, before they returned in more suitable war gear. Nor that the Piece of Vereeniging was a ruse, because Genl. Smuts was forced to sign the paper. He had you Brits all cowering and locked away in their hidey-holes, and had he been left to it, your forces would not be able to afford their war-efforts any more.

This is really simple.

Obviously finding a job is something that's naturally competitive. It's just because there are only so many business looking to hire and x amount of people looking for jobs.

As a company or a business your goal isn't to exist only to hire people and who you hire is ultimately up to you.

Read this quote again
"It is also worth remembering that this is a training position - at the end of the two years there is no guarantee of work and the successful candidates would have to apply for a job with the council in the usual way on the open market."

this clearly states that the [edit]council[edit] is aware that the ad may be misinterpreted and makes it very clear that this in no way affects the chances of non-whites to get hired in this company and in no way puts blacks at an advantage with the company. simply that the council is extending a helping hand to the black community.

and now read a quote from the guy who saw the ad
"I feel the job itself would be an excellent opportunity for me to make use of the skills and qualifications that I have acquired. However, being white I am totally excluded from applying for the post."

Clearly he misinterpreted the ad and therefore has proven that he can not read. I don't think anyone should hire this guy because A.) He is a whiner B.)He can't read C.)He jumps to conclusions and accuses upon face value. This is not the kind of worker companies are looking to hire. Nor are these qualities desired in the workplace.
He may have other strikes against him, but I'm sure he probably realized his mistake and hopefully feels embarassed about his quote.

If I were Black, I would start a movement to abolish all affirmative action style programs in effort to instill a sense of pride and promote a sense of self reliance among my racial brethren!

Mantra's could be...
i.e. "We can stand on our own 2 feet!"
i.e. "Work hard, be successful. Let nothing stand in your way!"

I would also push for social acceptance of the "N" word! The word its self is not what hurt, its the ideology behind it that blacks are somehow inferior. And this is so because of the extreme outrage it provokes upon its use, allot of times by White people! As a Black person I would let this word roll right off my back without batting an eye, and tell any White person that pretends to be offended by its utterance to shut the hell up!

Most importantly, I would encourage Black people to avoid jobs/programs aimed solely at minority like the plague! That way when you achieve a position of power or even a high paying job, you could take pride in knowing that you earned it!

Reread this post and replace "Black" with whatever...

How about taking race off of a resume, comparing them and taking the best candidate? What would be the harm in doing that? If they both applied themselves, and everything is equal, there should be no problem right? Why can't we just do that? No, we have quotas, regardless of who actually fits the job description best. It's infuriating. Take me based solely on my merits and achievements not based on by race. I have no problems losing to someone who is better qualified. I do have problems losing based on a quota.

Just as the losers will ignore everything written and have their own alternative version which views them in the right and who but for a bitter twist of fate would have won and the victors are viewed as evil despots and tyrants.

I suspect the truth is usually somewhere in between.

Yes, this reeks of racism.

The lack of ethnic minorities in positions overseen by this council is due to the lack of qualified applicants or possibly bad human resources management, and whiutes should NOT be excluded specifically from applying - this is a violation of basic human rights and should be challenged at the EU human rights tribunal in The Hague.

This is similar to the American University applicant (I forget which university) who had put on his application that he was "African American" and had been accepted on this basis. When he showed up, they found out he was white. He had been born in Kenya, but was white, but technically was still an "African American" as he had been born in Africa. It went to court and he won.

To base someone on the color of their skin or racial group is the epitomy of racism, and should be avoided at all times. I like David Icke's take on racism - "We're all human beings - why are people arguing over the color of the packaging that we come in"?

This is a tricky one. It is probably wrong to promote a person because of the colour of their skin. At the same time do we really want a ruling white class, especially in the councils, while the ethnics are left to rot in the ghetto city centres with no hope other than guns and drugs? Lost on this one..........
