So im not sure if this is "REAL" or not, or even how credible this source is...but if it is, it sounds quite astonishing non the less...

"This can't be real" was my first thought. Then I checked the source: The Guatemalan government. This sinkhole appeared yesterday, May 30, in a street intersection located in Zone 2 of Ciudad de Guatemala.

A sinkhole is a natural depression caused by the removal of underground soil by water. This process can happen slowly, but sometimes the land just cracks open. In this case, it happened suddenly. The cause: Massive underground water torrents created by tropical storm Agatha.

It is very real it is a sink hole that developed after the area suffered the effects of tropical storm Agatha. There have been other sink holes that have formed in that area before that are similar to this one. Also there has been numerous other threads discussing this. Very awesome picture of what natural events are capable of though. What a way to kick off hurricane season no?

Once while driving down a highway in south fla, my eyes were fixed on the road as we traveled, and I see the cars in front of me just dissappear! I slammed my brakes on just in time, the road had just dropped out sight! A giant sinkhole had opened and 2 cars had gone in, a 3rd was on the edge, I was the next car. Helluva experience.

So I was going to ask if you'd seen demons flying out or something and slam you for excessive sensationalism in your thread title but after looking at the picture...YOU were correct! That is the deepest sink hole I've ever seen! Holy crap!

That is the deepest sinkhole I've ever seen. At first I though photoshop, but the Guatemalan government would have nothing to gain from such a hoax, that could easily be proven false by eyewitness testimony. Perhaps it's a sign of some sort of disruption of the Earth's crust caused by the gulf oil gusher or the awakening of the ring of fire. I'm blown away.

is the expression "gate of hell" chosen to make this natural partially man made event, which is traceable and not new, more attractive ? kind of disaster-porn-style, fearmongering, giving-that-special-kick method ?

First off, i said it MIGHT be fake, im not sure...surely you are able to distinguish whats real and not on your own.

2nd. All the people who post in this thread are owned by the same user? really?... i understand that you might not have a social life, but in no way's would i go threw the trouble of making several accounts threw-out the years, all leading up to this thread...all for the sole purpose of trying to authenticate the realness of this article. Really, who trolls threads to just talk cr*p?
move on, your words were not needed =]

No problem, I figured i'd seen that photo before but it turned out it just the same depth of another one from there from a few years ago.

I think I'll avoid Guatamala for a bit.

I think this is at least the third thread so far started on this topic. It really is very amazing to look at.

Yes, it is real. As hard as it is to believe. I have learned by now to jump onto ANY bandwagon until is really proven or dis-proven by credible means.

In fact, this is not the only one. In 2007 a very similar hole opened up in the same region. Incredible.

I have a suspicion that this is somehow connected to the recent and local volcanic erruption. That hole is just too perfect....perhaps it is some ancient 'vent', for lack of a better term.

GO to Google Images and search 'sinkhole'. Go thru all of those images. Some are amazing and one is very similar to this new one and looks bigger. You'll also see lots of pretty pictures of 'ancient' natural sinkholes with vegetation and crystal blue waterfalls.

from the research I have done
it would seem that the majority
of these sinkholes are caused by
water eroding the surface of
the earth.

However lately there has been quite
a few of them.

Another one in Guatemala 2007

Texas sinkhole in 2008

www.foxnews.com...

Florida sinkhole 2010

Detroit sinkhole recently

it's quite alarming

"ya... could u plz stop it w/the jokes? it's kinda annoying... I live in Guatemala and it's not really that funny... We've been hit by a volcano and a storm in one weekend... some might think it's a lot of fun... well... tell that to the thousands of ppl who's house was washed away... "

"The last 5 days has not being all that great for us guatemalans, last Thursday we had a huge volcano eruption that covered a third of the country on ashes. That same day it started raining and on Saturday it looked like God was getting ready for a bath. It rained over 2 meters in some areas of the country in just 24 hours, it was crazy, thank God rain has stopped and the volcano ceased to expell ashes"

People on here make jokes about it because its not happening in their own Country, its a very sad state of affairs when people make light of a catastrophe like this.

It looks like a scene from the film "War of the worlds". It looks like Tom Cruise's character is about to haul ass down that street. It's no joke though. I think nature is having the last laugh. She rules us all.
