The reported rate of oil spilling into the gulf is at least 5,000 barrels a day. Here are some of the NOAA maps displaying the spill.

BP estimates that it will take another 2 months to complete the relief wells, and maybe, maybe curb the spill. In lieu of their earlier failed attempts, I don’t put much credence in their competency. At this horrific rate, that would be almost half a million barrels of oil in 90 days. By using these NOAA maps as a reference, I estimated that the oil will have spread into the world’s ocean Thermohaline circulation in less than 5 months.

Now add in the wind factor:

And quite possibility, by December 2012, the two thirds of worlds water will be polluted.

And as a side note (put on your tin hat), if, if a meteorite would strike within this oil laden mass of water, would it just add fuel to the fire?

If it is an ats image, right click on the picture, and it should say to get the image url. Type that into the [img.] [/.img] without the periods. It should work.

I hope you are wrong, but you are probably correct.

in 1979 there was 30+ thousand barrels of crude oil going into the Gulf of Mexico and it lasted for 9 months

The worlds oceans were not affected by this so it's doubtful that this spill of 5,000 barrels a day will affect the worlds oceans

How could you possibly utter the words, "the world's oceans were not affected by this" (ANY oil spill).

Have you talked to any fisherman at all in the last 30 or so years?

They are saying 56,000 to 84,000 barrels a day. www.examiner.com... www.npr.org... www.mcclatchydc.com...

Three sources that state greater than 5,000.

I wish we could get an actual consistent volume of oil being put into the ocean.
I know it's alot but I wish we were told just one number.
Al seems to think it's alot more than being reported.

For whatever reason...when I heard about the oil spill in the first few days of it happening I had a feeling something miserable might be spawning in the gulf region. Obviously, with any spill (even tiny ones) it does damage the ocean around it but there was just something about this one. It was the same feeling I got when I first heard about the 2012 end of times theory - furthermore the first time I thought that it could, in any slim chance, be remotely possible.

So back to the spill, I just get the feeling like what are they possibly going to do? I don't know much about previous disasters like this but I just have a bad feeling that something like this is going to be hard to stop.

The two things just go hand in hand.

The world's oceans were NOT affected by this the Gulf of Mexico was and that's it...it did NOT spread to the worlds oceans like the OP is saying

The OP is saying 5,000 barrels a day so that's what i'm referring to here

I agree.
But not everyone has scruples, morals and integrity.
These greedy, evil people, think only of themselves, and consider the rest of us as sheeple. Sheeple to be led to the slaughter.
When enough is enough, the sheeple will pull the wool from their eyes and awaken as angry lions.
Until then, we all live in a nightmare.

Oh My Gosh!
Here is the quote from the Examiner,"Purdue University Associate Professor of mechanical engineering Steven Wereley, however, has created a program to track the particle flow of material from the open pipe, and has created new estimates of the open flow of approximately 70,000 barrels or 2.9 million gallons a day.

Thank you for updating to the new figure.
This IS Horrendous.!!!!!

In the first part of the spill they put in over 208,000 gallons of the very toxic corexit 9527 that no one would use anywhere just to dump it or rather get rid of it! The figures are out there at the coast guard or NOAA site.

A few facts everybody might want to consider before ending it all. The Gulf Stream flows .6 million cubic meters per second. There are approximately 6.3 bbls per cubic meter. Coverting to barrels per day the Gulf Stream flows at 326,592,000,000 bbls per day. The most hysterical estimates of the blowout were around 120,000 bbls/day. Therefore if the oil goes into the Gulf Stream the oil would represent .000000367 parts oil per 1 part sea water. You's need a microscope to find it. I think the Atlantic Ocean is bigger than the Gulf so a worldwide pollution event is probably not going to happen.
