Simmons Says Obama Should Detonate Nukes to Seal Oil Leak;

I cannot find a new link to the newest devistation of the oil leak. Can someone please find a link or has a link.

How did you come up with 5 feet in diameter? It's no where near 5 feet in diameter. It's not even 1' in diameter.

Except it takes 2-3 months to drill an intersecting hole with conventional drilling methods. I have read los alamos laboratories and the US department of energy has patented nuclear/electric and even laser drilling apparatus that can drill miles IN JUST ONE DAY!

God damm it, why does the NSA hide such useful technology, especially during a crisis like this?? Does the government really want to depopulate earth of all life? Pathetic!!

Absolutely... the government is all over the idea of depopulating the earth... that's their master plan... completely ruin the planet for humans... you see... the government is run by aliens. Oil is their pornstar and humans are burning them. I still don't think it's a good idea. Drill what amounts to a relief well and then risk making it worse with an explosion rather than doing what they know works?

I wonder how deep the well was and what it's bottom hole pressure was.

That was kind of interesting though. I wonder what the yield of that thing was. For as old as that vid is that was a pretty small weapon. I wonder what the smallest nuke is and what it's yield is?

What exactly is your point? My point was that nuclear bombs of all shapes and sizes exist for each particular task! Have you read any post where people claim the russians have used nuclear bombs to seal out-of-control oil wells? Just this thread alone is based on that principle!

There has been so much conflicting information the last month or so coming out from various "experts" its impossible to know who is lying and who is telling the truth. However a 1 foot wellhead seems to be too small for a petroleum well. Maybe you mean ONE OF THE RISER PIPES is less than 1 foot? That would make sense if they used multiple riser pipes to raise oil-gas from the well instead of one large/heavy "clumsy" pipe.

Bankers, aliens and corporations have a tremendous influence on many governments throughout the world(especially the american government) and that is no laughing matter.

I'm still not convinced that this is the best solution. I watched the video and see how it supposedly works, but we ARE talking a mile below sea level. The pressure of this leak and the gas (which is supposed to be the problem to begin with) is a little disturbing to think just what might happen with explosives added to the mix. The real problem seems to be that there was no plan in place to fix just such a disaster. Granted, I don't have any better options to offer, I just hope we think this through before acting recklessly. There's been enough of that already.

Who let these people on TV who don't understand anything about low-yield nuclear explosions? These morons are laughing constantly during the interview, making it painfully obvious that they don't understand it, are afraid of it, didn't bother to learn about it, and think belittling it will make it go away. Sadly, it will, and we're going to have a way worse environmental catastrophe than we need to, all because the media doesn't feel like reading a few books about the history of Peaceful Nuclear Explosions.

I know a bit about Nukes and how they work underground as excavation tools.
The principle is the explosion vaporizes a sphere of rock which collapses, excavating the ground.
The nuke method of killing a well is no different a low yield device is detonated next to the well crushing and collapsing the well to seal it.
with talk of glassification aiding the process. The problem in the gulf is the ground is an unstable mix of sedimentary deposits, salt deposits and a lot of methane clathrate on to of it all.
The cap rock of the deposit is already leaking and is relatively thin and weak.
A device detonated in the upper strata would leave a very porous debris field that would no doubt leak worse given the pressures involved.
A device detonated in the cap rock could very well fracture the cap and cause a huge release of gas.
This is not some thick stable rock this is a porous seeping field of oil and gas and using a nuke on the geology could be a disaster hundreds of times what we have at present.
FWIW it is my educated conclusion that this well has destabilized the whole deposit and the enormous pressures have blown out the sea floor in several places.
This is based upon a masters in organic chem and minors in marine biology and earth sciences as well as a decade of working the platforms and fields of California.
Make no mistake we have really fugged this one up and we are not going to be able to blast our way out of this.
With all the volcanic activity in central and south America, the New Madrid fault and the Haitian earthquake leading up to this we may be in for front row seas to the planet tossing off a bunch of monkeys and with not a damn thing the monkeys can do to stop it.

So why not detonate a nuke in the middle strata which is stronger and more stable? I assume a bore hole could be dug within a week maximum if they actually cared enough to stop the leak instead of---read below---

The real issue is Obama stopping any more wells being drilled, making us even more dependent on foreign oil. "Never waste a crisis"
