La. scientist locates another vast oil plume in the gulf

www.washingtonpost.com

A day after scientists reported finding a huge "plume" of oil extending miles east of the leaking BP well, on Friday a Louisiana scientist said his crew had located another vast plume of oily globs, miles in the opposite direction.

James H. Cowan Jr., a professor at Louisiana State University, said his crew on Wednesday found a plume of oil in a section of the gulf 75 miles west of the source of the leak.

When you read this article it just makes you wonder. This is the third plume of oil to be found not the one that is headed to Mobile Bay. This one is 75 miles west of the source of the leak and that they could not really find the edges of it. This is the problem when you let money and cost and corporate greed make decisions instead of scientist.

"This discovery seems to confirm the fears of some scientists that -- because of the depth of the leak and the heavy use of chemical "dispersants" -- this spill was behaving differently than others. Instead of floating on top of the water, it may be moving beneath it. "

They should have let it float to the top where it could be have been stopped by floating buoys but instead it will slip under them like a ninja and there is no way to stop it. Good job BP.... way to really f up our country trying to cover ur arse.

BP should be fined, as well as paying for the years, or even decades of clean up that their mess made, and they should NEVER AGAIN be allowed to do business in the U.S. It is that simple. We could keep our jobs with American companies and make sure they follow safety rules, and not just pretend to follow such rules...

With this great distance.. it may be possible that this is from an undiscovered leak.. as i understand it this well is HUGE underground, and could have many leaking spots.. i think it's possible the pressure from the initial blowout caused other leaks they have yet to find.

I agree but if dispersants are present, wouldn't that seem to contradict that? Wouldn't the dispersants have to have come from the BP "leak"?

"Here is a situation where, unless you're looking at the chemical fingerprints, [the oil] is absolutely not visible," Hollander said. "It's not some Italian vinaigrette or anything like that. It's absolutely, perfectly clear."

But, Hollander said, even this clear-looking water could contain enough oil to be toxic to small animals at the base of the gulf food chain. He said he was also worried that the oil contains traces of "dispersants," soaplike chemicals sprayed into the oil to break it up.

"You don't want to put soap into a fish tank," Hollander said.

I think that the Volcanic and seismic activity seen recently where every seismograph on the planet went mental could have caused a catastrophic failure which is releasing huge amounts of oil. The spill is a cover for the fact that we have this massive collapse of a huge oil field. We also have 11 volcanoes erupting remaxroatanmls.com... and several huge volcanoes predicted to go any time.

I know it sounds unlikely but dis-information is about keeping peoples eyes off what is really going on. If Yellowstone is gonna blow a oil slick destroying the gulf is the least of your worries.

Oh great, just what we needed... ANOTHER leak.

Why don't they just create a mile long pipe line from the leak to the ocean's surface then have oil tankers waiting in line to receive the oil? It would be better than the goofy videogame they are playing called "Top Kill."

If this doesn't get us off the leech colored liquid, nothing will.

Well this should definatly allow BP to max out at the 75 million dollar liability cap.

Obviously there is natural phenomenon at work here. That oil in the gulf must have been caused by a natural seep.

Maybe BP can use the golf ball option again, what do you think BP? I'm sure the CEO of BP has plenty of that kind of equipment laying around. THANK YOU BP for all the pollutants. Soon beaches will smell of death. The oil will kill plants, fish, and animals, not to mention what it kills when it comes ashore. Also, soon you will see more people in the hospitals with breathing problems. YOUR LUNGS WILL BURN. Watch for more fish on the beaches, the smell of dead fish, plants and animals. THANKS BP. Don't worry BP i'm sure the multi millionairs in florida will thank you later. When their boats and beaches smell of oil and death.

I say justice served.

Miami beach multi-millionaires and billionaires will likley have oil and dispersant floating up against the hull of thier multi-million dollar yachts and estates before you know it.
