Indonesia to ban jeans for women: (what is wrong with these men)

The authorities of the Aceh province of Indonesia want to ban jeans for Muslim women. They plan to distribute 20,000 long skirts to indecently dressed women. If a woman is caught wearing jeans three times she’ll face a fortnight in jail. The campaign covers only Muslim women in Aceh, but it has already faced protest from human rights activists.

Seriously. What do they care if a woman slips on a pair of good old blue-jeans.
How is that against thier religion? In todays world-I don't know how woman allow this to even take place.

I would think they would say Enough is Enough-worry about youself and not what the hell I have on. I guess being in the USA and around strong and educated women that I have gotten spoiled-or ruined (depending what your take is). My wife saw this and flipped out.

That got me to thinking. What do the ladies of ATS think of this crap and the Burkas etc? What do those men over there have against the beauty and uniqueness of women. What makes them so afraid they have to subordinate all their women? SO I ask again. WTF is wrong with these men to make them think/beleive this is better? Are they that insecure?

Thats Religion for you.

Every single religion has something within its invisible laws and requirements that is totally asinine.

When you are BRAINWASHED by a certain religion, it just seems proper and righteous to its followers, but to anyone not brainwashed by that particular religion sees it as something OBVIOUSLY ridiculous. Such can be seen in Western religions also, but its followers are to brainwashed to see it. Religion is a pathetic, sick, disgusting thing.

I'm sure if there is a God, he enjoys a young lady in tight pair of jeans!!

I am personally all for women wearing whatever they want, beit jeans, shorts or skirts. However, you have to look at this from the perspective of the religion. Once upon a time, women in most every society wore very covering clothing and exposed nothing. It stems from the religious viewpoint of purity of spirit. The female form inspires lust and impurity in the male mentality. This is sinful in the eyes of God, according to most religious texts and tomes.

The more extreme followers are held to these archaic and ancient beliefs and therefore subjugate women in their faith with this practice.

I am not a religious person, in that I dont follow a faith or pray to a God, but I have studied and do understand the practice of faith. Its no different than religions that allow a man to take many brides, allow older men to marry teenage girls, or even those that turn a blind eye to priests having sex with young boys. What is backwards or immoral from one persons veiwpoint is normal and natural from another.

I think its slightly wrong. Its the men who admit that they have no control over their flesh and want women covered up so they do not think 'bad' thoughts about women at the same time the women are covered up.

I dont agree with western looks. Some of these girls look like working girls and although being a guy, its nice to see thongs on the city streets and have to admit I think dirty thoughts. Is that the point of super tight jeans and thongs hanging out?

I actually thought about why they enforce Muslim women to cover themsevles head to toe the other day and it hit me. I am not sure if this is relevant to Indonesia too, but in the Middle East it is HOT! The men in power and the general public wear long shirts (can't remember what they are called) that reach to their ankles, no pants, no socks, and no underwear. I believe this is to keep cool by letting a gentle breeze to their nether regions. They enforce women, who do not have equal rights, to completely cover their bodies and extremities in public in an effort to keep the men from getting excited in public, if you catch my drift. The men do not have pants or boxers to adequately shield themsevles of the shame and public humiliation that could arise if they were to see the body of a woman.

Yes, maybe they are a bunch of mislead, horny teenagers out of touch with the elements and their bodies.

One thing about this line of "reasoning" I fail to understand is:
Why punish the women? Isn't the men who continue to have those "impure thoughts?" What's the point of punishing the people who aren't having those "impure thoughts?"

As a side note, I think I should point out that I have no trouble in studying & understanding various religions...Only certain dogmas that wind up in organized religion. The bigger any organization gets, the more it attracts "control freaks" to its ranks. This is a truth of human history, as far back as we can know it. Some people just can't stand the thought that not everyone else thinks exactly like themselves so they just have to force their own way on everybody else, regardless of what anyone else wants.

...On the other hand, maybe I do understand the reason behind the dogmas after all...It's the Control Freaks!

I'm pretty sure most Indonesian women dont want to wear that Burqa thing though....

It is a step in the right direction. I have been writting levis for years asking them to stop making womens clothing larger than a mans size 34.

Sigh .... it's going to be a long, long time before the world makes sense

* women are 50% of the world's population

* as a very strong 50% of the world's population (actually slightly more than 50%) women are under no obligation to 'obey' the other 50% for any reason at all

* as wives and mothers, women could decimate the male 50% very easily, via poisoned food, by killing male babies as soon as they're born and by slitting men's throats during the male orgasm (when men are basically helpless) etc

* the vast majority of religions are male dominated and misogynistic

* males utilize religion to oppress females

* women as a group do not attempt to dictate what men wear

* male-dominated, misogynistic religions have not eradicated sexual assaults on females in the past 2000 years approx. despite all the male interference in what women wear on their heads or over their bodies

* thus, it's males which are the problem --- not female attire

* males need to start imposing restrictions on what MALES wear, if they're so interested in 'protecting women' -- for example, it's males who need to lock up their OWN genitalia --- spike-studded male chastity cups for example. To train their bodies to stop having erections at the sight of women, seeing that's supposedly the aim of forcing women to cloak their bodies. Forcing women to drag themselves around like walking tents to 'protect' them makes as much sense as forcing jewellers to hang shrouds over their goods so that they won't 'tempt thieves'. Would jewellers DO that ? Answer: NO. Because it's up to the thieves to control their thoughts and acts. If they don't, they go to jail. Same thing with men who insist women shroud their bodies.

* it's using their god for their own convenience. To excuse muslim men from exercising self-discipline and from controlling their base instincts

Throughout history, all the insane Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism and it's illegitimate-child Islam) --- have exploited the Abrahamic god in order to dominate society and females in particular

The world is not progressing

The uitlization of the Abrahamic god by power-hungry, misogynistic males is responsible for that lack of progress, even regression

The abrahamic god must be dispensed with before humans can pull their heads out of their groins and commence to evolve

I don't imagine the abrahamic god will care a damn, if it exists at all
