Wow 10 miles, well maybe it might not be underground tunneling then. Notice any big rabbit holes nearby?

Growing up in Southern California, I'm used to the ground shaking, from earthquakes. From my perspective it usually felt like a swaying more than a shaking. One time, when I was a little girl, I was sitting in the living room and my Mom was ironing some clothes on a full-sized ironing board. A tremor nearly knocked the board down but my Mom happened to catch it in time.

Anyway, your whole house shaking must have been quite unnerving for you. Do you live in a one-story house?
