'Eyeballing' Vodka Fad Becomes New Danger for Teens

I've done it a few times, and whilst it did make me feel more drunk, I guess it could just been psychology.

Didn't think the alcohol should be strong enough to do eye-damage, and frankly it never did anything to my vision, that I've ever noticed.
I won't do it again, but that's just because of growing up. Main reason why people do it is because its supposed to send alcohol directly into the brain, therefore staying in high concentration. Main reason why people (like me) would ant to do that is shown by an experiment called Rat Park: en.wikipedia.org...

What some (mostly the dying-older generation) fail to understand is that modern life has become for humans, how like living in a filthy-tiny rat cage is for rats. This is not new, but it is the main reason why substance use (because "use" is what it actually is) has an appeal.

PS Neither me (or most of my threads) are what many describe as "stupid" people. But hay, more fool them!!

They probably stole it from their parent's liquor cabinet anyway, or they hang out with that one older guy that has nothing but high school friends because he lacks the social skills to hang out with people of his own age.

Ya know I prefer my vodka in a shot glass that I drink. I think this goes along with the kids passing eachother out and huffing compressed air. How goofy do you have to be? At least with doing some drugs I can see a temporary benefit for the individual. Heck even drinking gives you a nice buzz. But doing stupid crap to hurt yourself to make people laugh? You've got to be a few nuggets short of a happy meal.

Wouldnt the strength of the alchohol remove the protective layer on the eye?
Or what if it got into the orbit?
Damn this sounds stupid and bad, and wasteful.

As per the article in the OP:

Optometric experts have said pouring vodka on the eyeball can take off the top layer of the cornea, possibly leading to blindness.

So yeah it would appear that this could lead to blindness in instances of continuous exposure. Dummies!

Old friend of mine was this girl, she was a heroin addict again while out on probation, and she was subject to regular urine tests to screen her for drug use...

Day of the test she would drink bleach, somehow the concept was it would mess with her urine enough that she could pass the drug test, and she did have some success with this method...

Kids also smoke oxycodone tablets, yes smoke them. And they take DXM(dextromethorphan) containing products, which also contain extremely harmful antihistamines and such to get high. The vodka in the eyes thing though just takes the cake, good God man..

The bleach didn't work forever, she went back to prison, and I have not seen her, or had an update on her, in the intervening years...
I hope for the best, she was intelligent and capable, and a mother...

Just wait till they discover how blasted drunk they can get by putting vodka up their butts! Also works amazing well with Scope mouth wash!

This was a guy who used to do exactly what is being done here. So this is not a new thing, but I guess it has made a resurgence!

Kids these days. We recently and still have middle schoolers coming to our college on field trips. Kids these days are freaking so infuriating. They try and dress like they are 18, and act like they own the world. They are not acting their age and it saddens me to see them not enjoying their childhood.

This eye vodka thing is madness. *sigh*, the world we live in.

I agree 100%. There are soooo many influences in this day and age, i.e. Interwebz, MSM, crap A$$ reality shows, I think they all play a roll one way or another. Sad indeed!
