two articles

urging by using fear to the public and suggesting tap water is safer.

"Microbiologically speaking, tap water is purer than bottled water -- most bottled water," Azam said. "We didn't know this until we conducted the research."

Researchers from C-crest Laboratories in Montreal decided to randomly test bottled water for bacteria after a fellow employee complained of a foul taste from some bottled water and became ill.

I find that unlikely to believe that water cost them to be ill

there are many things that can cause a foul taste.

interesting on the comments section on the CTV section

I'll stick to my tap water!

Is this true, or is this another anti-water bottle conspiracy to create fear by the environmentalists? Name the brands to prove this.

I agree with this comment^

I believe its a conspiracy to get us to stop drinking bottled water and if i may add what an interesting time this research happened, it just happens before June 26-27 G8/g20 meetings, i wonder what they have planned in mind?

Again if tap water is so safe, why are more people getting sick from it then from bottle water? i am drinking bottle water, and i feel fine.

I guess CBC and CTV is forgetting that tap water is filled with fluoride!

I don't know about you but i will sticking with my bottle water.

I think there is a conspiracy to make tap water unhealthy to the point where people who don't trust the government and know fluoride is poison drink their water out of unhealthy plastic bottles and get cancer...

again, bottles don't make people having cancer

you can get cancer from other things, but not from bottles.

Its like saying if a kid plays with a plastic toy he or she will get skin cancer.

I think this idea is crazy! Here in Switzerland The tab water was allays better then the bottled, this was 1000 times tested.

Ok, we have frehs water from melting snow from big mountains. But anyway. you poor american drink a to of Fluoride in our water (poissened) , for better teeth they say..LOL

kidshealth.org...

....Fluoride and the Water Supply
For over 60 years, water fluoridation has proved to be a safe and cost-effective way to reduce dental caries. Today, water fluoridation is estimated to reduce tooth decay by 20-40%. As of 2002, the CDC statistics show that almost 60% of the U.S. population receives fluoridated water through the taps in their homes. Some communities have naturally occurring fluoride in their water; others add it at water-processing plants....

So they wanted to so in Switzerland after ww2, but our watersystem is to decentralized to do that. (thanks God). In US I would only drink rain water..

Are you kidding? google BPA...anything with a number 7 on the bottom of the bottle enclosed in a recycle sign is bad news. Same goes for PVC that wraps many of the foods you buy.

Sometimes it can come to the type of materials used to make the bottles that can bleach into the solution. Such was a case with baby feeding bottles where a certain chemical was considered toxic to the developing brain of the developing child.

Bacteria in water is still plausible, if the conditions exist. Warm, moist , & nutrition rich environment. Bacteria need food source to grow and also contamination has to take place. Some newer bottled water come loaded with extra stuff besides the water and would make it suitable for bacterial growth if the water was contaminated from the source. In theory, if the environment and contamination exist..then it is plausible.

Just stick to your no frills bottled water and you should be fine.

I found this part interesting and manipulative...

The U.S. bacterial limit is no more than 500 colony-forming units of bacteria per millilitre of water. Health Canada does not have an equivalent standard for bacteria in bottled water. Canadian test samples showed results of more than 80,000 heterotrophic units. Read more: www.cbc.ca...#ixzz0p3GrxpMl

80 000 per millilitre, or per litre? Because in the last case, it amounts to 800 per millilitre... Given it is 300 more than what is accepted in the US, but is that really so bad? It will give an overall amount of 30 000, but, really?

I'd just like to point out that many of the bottled "Spring" waters you people buy are sourced from Municiple water supplies (Eg: they are bottling tap water) in cities like Detroit & Chicago.

So before you swig down some nestle water and feel smug about your water purity, realize you're getting just as much flouride and chemicals as the guy drinking from that tap over there.
