Rumors are swirling all over the net now. Apparently the early rumors that National Guards stationed in Georgia, North Dakota and Alabama being called up are true.

I think we've talked about it some here. It's also being discussed at length on this site.

No one knows for sure why the emergency call up is taking place. Speculation has run rampant that it could be anything from Iran to Korea. But some have caught this rumor as well -- Benzene washing up on Gulf Coast This is a dangerous chemical. And as such, the entire Gulf will need to be evacuated.

Which could mean the National Guard is being called up to assist.

They'll probably take the illegals on the coast first and by force. Everybody else will say it's the right thing to do, until later on when they start re-locating non-illegals to FEMA camps, then everybody's gonna realize their stupidity, and see beyond whatever intial racism made them think it was OK to haul them illegal mexicans first, just because they're dark skins.

Just like with the Starving Africans, if they do it to them, they're gonna do it to you.

Everybody's gonna have to learn this one thing with hardnocks.

Hopefully the next civilization, if there is one, will learn from their stupidity.

And I'm planning a trip up to St Pete this weekend.

I live on the coast in MS and I work with Emergency Managment as the ESF 9 Coordinator (Search and Rescue). I attend the daily briefings and I have heard no talk about evacuations. I have heard the rumors about forced evacuations, thus far that is all they are.

If anything changes I will post it here on ATS!

All I see so far is a blog post, but IF this is true it won't stay quiet for long.

from my research

www.eco-usa.net...

it would seem benzine stinks, so it can't be hidden like odourless gasses.

Apparently its also part of crude oil but surely, IF this is true it has just become a problem or it would have be noticed already.

So my question for the chemistry buffs out there is, what would cause this, can anyone give me a plausible cause?

I'm from one of those states, but haven't seen any activity whatsoever. Though I don't live particularly close to any bases.

We get a lot of military aircraft flyovers, but none lately. Only two Apaches about a week ago.

Will keep an eye out though!

I'm willing to bet there will be no evacuations. Much ado about nothing, there seems to be a rumor spreading round the net, but thats about all there is to see here folks, rumor.

Go ahead and plan your trips, nothing to worry about here, just dont swim in any red water!

WASHINGTON — Under pressure to take action, President Barack Obama is ordering 1,200 National Guard troops to boost security along the U.S.-Mexico border, officials said Tuesday, pre-empting Republican efforts to force a congressional vote to send the troops.

Obama will also request $500 million for border protection and law enforcement activities, according to lawmakers and administration officials.

The president's action comes as chances for comprehensive immigration reform, Obama's long-stated goal, look increasingly dim in this election year. Obama has been all but compelled to do something since Arizona's passage of a tough illegal-immigration law thrust the border problem into the public spotlight.

The National Guard troops will work on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support, analysis and training, and support efforts to block drug trafficking. They will temporarily supplement Border Patrol agents until Customs and Border Protection can recruit and train additional officers and agents to serve on the border, an administration official said.www.chron.com...

Maybe this is the reason...deserves a thread all it's own and further speculation.
It seem to me that the President can only do this during WAR or declared National Emergency...I don't have time to tend to a thread...have at it.

"# The John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007 Pub.L. 109-364

Federal law was changed in section 1076 so that the Governor of a state is no longer the sole commander in chief of their state's National Guard during emergencies within the state. The President of the United States will now be able to take total control of a state's National Guard units without the governor's consent.[13] In a letter to Congress all 50 governors opposed the increase in power of the president over the National Guard.[14]

# The National Defense Authorization Act 2008 Pub.L. 110-181

Repeals provisions in section 1076 in Pub.L. 109-364 but still enables the President to call up the National Guard of the United States for active federal military service during Congressionally sanctioned national emergency or war. Places the National Guard Bureau directly under the Department of Defense as a joint activity. Promoted the Chief of the National Guard Bureau from a three-star to a four-star general."

I live between Gulport and Biloxi. No word of that here. Although I live close to a military base, we have had some copters flying over today, and a lot in the past week.

I figure it is a buildup of reservists to come here and help clean up the spill, nothing more.

As I said, no word of an evacuation here, but, my husband could smell the oil along the coast of Lake Pontchartrain last Friday.

The main threat is by breathing the toxins in that are being produced from the oil. Especially if they are being burned. My thread was attacked by trolls calling it a "HOAX".

Good luck with yours. It could turn into a nasty situation. Look how big it is already. How are they going to clean it? They have already talked about burning. And they are doing it in certain areas. If they are upwnd from you i suggest getting out of the way.

Florida Gulf oil spill: Plans to evacuate Tampa Bay area expected to be announced

Plans to evacuate the Tampa Bay area are expected to be announced in the coming days as FEMA prepares for what is now being called the worst oil disaster in the history of the world.

The evacuations will be necessary for the elderly and those with respiratory problems along much of Florida’s coast, including the Tampa Bay area, if plans proceed to set the massive, approaching oil slick on fire, according to Oilprice.com.

A fact sheet on the demonstrated impacts to human health from exposure to crude oil has been provided by Dr. Michael Harbut, Karmanos Cancer Institute, and Dr. Kathleen Burns of Sciencecorps, outlining the dangerous health hazards posed by oil and oil fumes. www.sciencecorps.org... Significant health risks and impacts include:

Visible effects such as skin damage, headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, coughing, respiratory difficulty, chemical pneumonitis, and other health problems.
Serious effects without obvious immediate symptoms including liver and kidney disease, lung damage, immune system suppression, abnormal hormone levels, infertility, anemia, nerve damage, mutations, cancer, and other serious health problems.

Serious risk to pregnant women, both to their own health and to the fetus’s, including abnormal growth and development, skeletal deformities and other birth defects.

Extreme risk to children, especially newborns, who are very vulnerable to toxic chemicals in crude oil due to incompletely formed immune and detoxification systems. They may experience abnormal growth, neurocognitive damage, cancer and other health conditions.

Those with preexisting medical conditions can see a worsening of those diseases due to even short-term exposure.

Whether health damage occurs depends on individual characteristics and exposure levels, but health experts agree that no exposure is free of heath risks. There is no “safe” level of exposure to carcinogens such as benzene; crude oil contains multiple carcinogens and mutagens.

Could this have anything to do with the rumor?

I mean they would call up the Guard for something like this, right? Are 1200 troops enough to involve 3 states?
