Students forbidden to wear t-shirts with the Amerrican Flag

This commentary by Mr.Navarette doesn't come as surprise, to me at least. He's been an anti-American agent for a while now, and an unsung soldier in Mexico's invasion of the US which media portrays as "undocumented workers".

However, what struck me that the article says that these San Diego students were TOLD to not wear US flag on the 5th of May.

Frankly, I'm shocked. Americans aren't allowed to place a symbol of their own country on their cloth?

To wear the american flag as clothing is disrespectful of it. I was beaten up by cowboys as a little hippie child for wearing an american flag jacket. Strangly enough, now the patritotic types think it OK to disrespect the flag by making it into shirts and things. You may wear a small American flag patch, but any other display of the flag on things is contrary to old style morals.
I would like for all flag waivers to know that America is not about hating mexicans, stealing oil from Iraqis, or letting the poor people die.

All this rightous indignation about not being able to wear the flag. I think there may be a lot more here than meets the eye. How many of these kids want to wear the flag ONLY on 5-5? I think the school or whatever knows what's up and moves to stop what might end up a riot with people getting hurt. If these kids are truly being repressed then I apologize but I am more than willing to bet they just want to wear the flag to start trouble with the hispanics by downplaying their day of celebration.

Yes, a beating can do that sort of thing to a person...

I agree that the flag needs to be respected, but having it depicted on a T-shirt doesn't strike me as unpatriotic. As an aside, I've seen thousands of maple leave T-shirts in my life, and didn't think the wearers were anti-Canadian.

...but why an American flag should even start trouble on the American soil?

So, here's the question:
Were they told not to wear it, or were they forbidden to wear it?

Big difference there, and one taht must be known before a judgement can be made on the subject.

It's one thing if administration said: "It's in bad taste to wear it on that day, and we ask that you refrain"

It's a whole other if they said "Wear the flag and you will be suspended"

I've never understood the issue of courtesy or respect in regards to flags. The earth is the earth. Nations are constructs in our minds. I'm sorry people beat others up over a symbol. Flags mean nothing to me. Being a good person to those I meet and live with is all, I feel, should matter.

To each their own I guess. I think if you want to wear the flag on a shirt go for it. If you don't then don't. Offense can only be taken and taking your anger out violently on another because you don't like their shirt seems particularly silly to me.

is the local Mexican Restaurant.
So it is NOT an American Holiday around here
in my neck of the woods.
Schools are open, banks are open,
Post Office is open, it's just another day.
So I have to disagree with it being
"an overwhelmingly American holiday".

Thats fine, disagree, but you are wrong. It is a 'holiday' (no it isnt a close-the-banks national holiday ) It is a holiday celebrated far more in america than it is in mexico.

Therefore, your silly previous statement of "if you want to celebrate it, go to mexico" only illustrates the fact that you not what you speak of.

Since it indicated not to wear the US flag on May 5, then this Navarete guy is a traitor to the US. Hence should be treated as such. Same goes to this Live Oaks High School that he's babbling about as well as CNN who employs this guy.
