Travellers to be searched for porn

www.theage.com.au

Australian customs officers have been given new powers to search incoming travellers' laptops and mobile phones for pornography, a spokeswoman for the Australian sex industry says.

Patten said officials now had an unfettered right to examine travellers' electronic devices, marking the beginning of a new era of official investigation into people's private lives. She questioned whether it was appropriate to search people for legal R18+ and X18+ material.

What's up with Australia? Trying to be as bad if not WORSE than the UK police state?

"If you and your partner have filmed or photographed yourselves making love in an exotic destination or even taking a bath, you will have to answer 'Yes' to the question or you will be breaking the law."

Ain't that nice?

And with all the TSA stories, you really want to put that information and that responsibility in their filthy hands?

Another invasion of privacy, another day in Police State Australia.

And Australia is officially added to my ``list of countries I will not visit because they are police states``.

Gah, society is soo @$$-backwards now and days.

A bunch of sexual conspiracies amongst the elite, but the simple folk can't have their porn.

Wow, what a great world we live in...

Thanks for posting.

What classifies as porn? Do pictures of the family & friends having fun at the beach count as porn? Or intimate pictures of your GF or Wife that one keeps on computer count as porn?

This is absurd.... /facedesk...

Rot Ro!!!!

My phone is full of porn! It is better than seeking out local prostitutes isn't it?

What if I bring my own stripper? Does that count?

Can they search my bags for the handcuffs too?

Australia already banned Small breasts and Female ejaculation; don't know what more to say.

The aussie government has clearly gone pretty bonkers.

This is a new low,... what is the australian government u[ to? trying to win some geopolitical limbo-dancing contest? Or to please their shadowy masters who had planned this? Low, lower, lowest, Australia.

I mean, whats the purpose of this, if not to see how far people will let this happen before they run amok on their "leaders"?

Way to go Australia...

Is porn illegal in australia ???? no

So why is bringing porn into australia illegal ?? Its ridiculous, it's not like people are these devious porn smugglers. Most people probably have a movie or two on their computer, ... what's wrong with that ???

What business is it of theirs ?? this is going waaaaay to personal, imagine them stopping you, taking you to a back room, while they look through your laptop for pornagraphy.

Whats the point !!!

Democracy does not mean you are free, only a Republic guarantees freedom. Sadly we don't even have a Republic here in the US anymore.

Actually X rated porn is illegal in Australia except for the ACT. Well it is not legally able to be sold in most states except the ACT, but you can get it in shops as they don't enforce it at all, except for when a priest or some moron goes and complains to the cops, which is about once every 10 years. They have a porn witchhunt for a couple of days until they go back to sipping tea and eating scones and the rest of us go back to watching porn.

What if you put your home made porn on a micro-SD card, drop it in an envelope, and FedEx it to your home country? They can't stop that, and you need not declare what you don't have with you

Brothers and Sisters (wait that sounds wrong in this context), together we can fight this War on Porn and be victorious!!!

I'm having a bit of trouble copying 156gb to microSD cards

I'm going to test customs on this in July, I am flying from Indonesia (where porn is meant to be illegal in the first place) to Australia.

I will be encrypting my hard drive, then adding another layer of encryption on my porn.

Will report the findings here.

I would hammer my fist into the face of anyone who tried to search my laptop for perfectly legal porn, though they wouldn't find any. However, that's beside the point. Seriously, I would hammer his face in with a rather devastating punch.

If it was a female, I would wrap my palm around her face/head and throw her away from me in one smooth, quick forcing jerk. Then I would pick up my laptop, then promptly advise them to quit their jackboot government suck-up job. Barring any other authoritative interruptions, I would leave said premises.

Australia does not want cheap, foreign porn smuggled into the country. They must be worried that it might put Australian porn actors out of business.

Nah it aint that. Like a previous poster noted XXX porn is legaly available only in the ACT, that Australian Capital Territory, home of our Goverment.

Can you blame our goverment for protecting their investment??

Yeah it was sarcasm.....

Why would anyone waste their time smuggling in porn when you can download it from the internet from within australia?

^

not for much longer....this is what the internet filter will do. Block restricted material.

You inadvertently make the point to me that they are about to create a massive porn black market
But you can't tell a politician this when they are so busy saving us.
