I've been thinking about this for a while and it's time we made some changes. It's that time again, where we get to watch politicians make promises that they will not keep and at the same time rip apart there opponent. And we all know that when they get in office that they automatically fall out of touch with the people and get in bed with special interest.

So I got an Idea that all ATS members can take part in. Let's make them actually work for us by making them pass a few laws that outline their job. I'll start here, and everyone else feel free to add as you please.

CWP= Contract with the People. The contract will contain candidates promises and agenda.

New Federal laws:
1. Term Limit for all government office=8years

2. All candidates must provide a list of campaign promises and personnel agendas. Shall be know as contract with the people (CWP).

3. Any candidates upon taking office who fails to keep or votes against his/her own CWP automatically forfeits office and must vacate within 10 days. Seat holder will repay all salaries received from the American peoples. And may be subject to fines or incarceration for breech of contract. This includes the offices of the President, House of Representatives and the Senate.

4.Congress will immediately form a panel of equally bipartisan seats to regulate CWP's.

5. The Current Supreme Court Judges will automatically be retired in no less than 4 years.

6. All future Supreme Court Nominees appointed by the President must submit CWP's to the President, Congress, and Senate. The nominees CWP will then be made public.

7. Conformation voting for any posting including the Supreme Court by the Senate will be done in strict concordance with Senators CWP's.

8. All new bills brought forth to the congress will be submitted for review to the citizenry. The people then through a sample ballot process will decide whether or not bill should be sent to general population for a vote. Sample ballots will be selected randomly by voters registration. However Balloting will only be done on the federal level.

9.No State shall be able to infringe on another states rights or laws passed in their state. However all state government must adhere to their own CWP.

Edit add: Also when a candidate is loses election he/she should not be able to cross party lines to assure a victory.

Your turn. Please remember that this is a work in progress. First rough draft one might say.

Just a adage: All current laws would be reviewed by Cwp panel including tax standard and submit to current law makers for change.

In number 3, change Congress to House of Representatives. Just saying, the Senate is part of Congress as well.

Oh good, so your idea on how to fix government is to radically change the constitution and all of a sudden bring in a new branch of government right?

So much for limiting the size of government. Let's just make the government THAT MUCH BIGGER!

Shesh oh PETE!

I'm on board with the idea of term limits (one term of four years for everyone, IMO), but the rest of it? No thanks. Its too big and too unwieldy. And the last thing I want is a corrupt bunch of Congressmen deciding who has and has not 'kept their promises' and giving them the power to send others packing. That's an invitation for abuse.

If you want to go that route, just institute a simple recall system, whereby citizens can recall an unpopular senator or representative either once per term or once per decade if they can get enough people to sign a petition to hold a new election.

No change in the constitution. Just change the people running it.

I used to be in favor of term limits. But sadly, lack of term limits is the only bargaining chip we, as the people, have. If there were term limits during the amnesty mess 2 years ago, lighting up the switch board wouldn't have done anything.

Final term senators would have a massive case of senioritis. They could do a great job, or a phone it in, and they're still gone. What do you think most of them would do in that case?
