Saudi woman beats up religious police officer who stopped her for walking with a man

www.dailymail.co.uk

When a Saudi religious policeman questioned a young couple walking together in an amusement park he got a painful surprise - when the woman suddenly attacked him.

But before the policeman could do anything else, the woman - believed to be in her mid-twenties - laid into him.
He was punched repeatedly about the head and upper torso during the attack in the eastern city of Hofuf Mubarraz.

The assault was so severe and sustained, the officer was eventually taken to hospital suffering from se

public opinion appears to have been firmly behind her.

'People are fed up with these religious police, and now they have to pay the price for the humiliation they put people through for years and years,' Saudi human rights activist Wajiha Al Huwaidar told the Media Line news agency.

'To see resistance from a woman means a lot... This is just the beginning and there will be more.'

I agree, there will be more after this....
This is a good thing and a bad thing.

A bad thing because they know this rebellion might spread like wildfire. So what would a country like Saudi Arabia do?
Set an example I guess.

They might torture her and kill her or life imprisonment but with daily torture.
Who knows.

This is like Rosa Parks fighting back but in the middle ages.
It's a completely different ballgame.
Wow, putting it in perspective like that really makes you wonder... is it really 2010?

The UN should come rescue her, I want this brave lady to be saved.

Well is about time, the only reason oppression exist is because the people oppressed allow the oppression.

If everybody around the world fight oppression not matter in what shape or form we will not be in this situation we are, even in the US we have oppression is just that it disguises into laws and regulations that people accept knowing that its eroding freedoms.

I hope I read more about women in the middle east fighting back.

Great find Modern
and as to the woman, more power to her!
I do hope she will survive the back lash but I fear she will be dead soon.
The above poster is right, I think she has to get out of the country.
This is a woman that has my respect. It would be an honer to meet her.

This is the 20th century people shouldn't have to hide the way they dress or show affection to a partner in public, haven't the police got anything better to do than bug normal people doing their own things.

hopefully more people will fight back against these stupid laws and beliefs.

really it should be a case of "if you don't like it don't look"

All I have to say in regards to this is: BRAVO!!! Its about time that the people of the world make the religious zealots realize that they will no longer stand or accept this type of intolerable behavior! Rise up and strike down those who would police others in the name of god!

The young man immediately collapsed for reasons that have not been made clear, the Jerusalem Post reported. Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk...
(from the OP's link)

Hmmm I wonder if that Religious policeman played a bit fast and loose with the guy, quite often they assert their authority with wooden poles or similar... If he sparked the guy out that could explain the woman standing up for her self like that (good for her
).

Unfortunately they will more than likely throw the book at her now, those guys don't like to be stood up too, especially by a woman.

Its quite sad that such a practice even takes place in the modern world. There was a thread up that showed what the culture in Iran looked like before the hard-line clerics took over. I was never aware that an Islamic country such as Iran before the take over looked so much like the western culture of those days.

It's actually the 21st century, time sure flies. We here in the west have now progressed to the dizzy cultural heights of auctioning off ones own virginity on television. So sometimes it is worth questioning the advances we have made in the last century.

I wouldn't call that part of the world "modern". Those countries are mentally so far behind the rest of the world it's not even funny. They're blinded by stupid religion and don't want to evolve.

On one hand it's good that the woman fought back and didn't accept every #. On the other one the question is, what will happen to her? In those "Dark Age"-Countries i can only imagine how they catch and torture her to make an example. and that's a damn shame.

Then check out how Kabul (yes, THAT Kabul) looked in the 70s.

It was called "the Rio de Janeiro of the East"

Yea Modern usually refers to technology and construction. In realms of cultural progression they definitely are still stuck in the stone age, still using stone throwing for executions.

How does one go about to change that? It has to start from with in. I can give an comparable example of India. At one point in India it was against the Law for women to wear jeans. Eventually a cultural revolution took place and now you have certain areas in India of private nude beaches.

I am not recommending nude beaches for Saudi's or the Islamic countries, that might result in a unimaginable earthquake off the ricktor scale, but a cultural revolution needs to take place internally. This woman's stance that particular day could be the spark that starts it all.

Do you remember the thread I am talking about with the picture from the 70's? But yea, once these hard liners took over, its been nothing but chaos and poverty for the followers.

I fear she will be made an example of. But if she can not get out of the country I fear she will loose her life. But, that will mean she will also be martyred. That can be good in ways but bad in others for the ruling party. It was said about that she already has support through the country. If she is martyred and her support is already spreading like wild fire it could turn into an inferno.

And many in the western world are blinded by american idol, dancing with the stars and maybeline models.

There are two ends to every spectrum, two extremes on opposite endpoints.
Saudi Arabia is religious ultra-conservative extremism.
What we have in the west is the exact opposite, ultra liberal radicalism.

They are all covered up and our women here are practically naked.
What's the difference?
Where's the middle ground, where's the moderation?
Their culture is being oppressed and our culture is going down the crapper.
Nobody is the winner here, we are all losers.

We can learn a little from them and they can learn a little from us.
If we meet in the middle we would really have a much better country.

Right now parents are buying sillicon breasts for their kids sweet-16. WTHHH....
Girls are wearing less and less and every generation girls in school are more promiscuous and i'm sorry but... easy.

Mothers and Fathers really get a slap of reality on their faces when they see their daughters's language and rethoric on facebook posts to peers.

It's like the dems and the repubs.
The country is so divded now because of political beliefs and partisan bickering.
And the world is so divided now because of culture and way of life..

Hmmm........... makes you wonder
THe former is on purpose, makes you wonder if the latter is too!!!!

Right on my muslim sister

I just seriously hope she doesn't wind up in cage for the rest of her life or worse for daring to stand up for herself in the face of such ridiculous oppression. People can make quasi-racist statements about the Arab Nations and Muslims all they want. However at the end of the day all people are just people. And most people do not like to be told how to think, act, or feel within a society. We've seen this with the Revolutionary Movement in Iran during their past election and now we see these stories filtering out of these countries. I hope the Arab and Muslim people in these oppressive societies one day get the freedom to be. As so most of us in the western world enjoy.
