The Phalanx CIWS weapons system was developed just to answer such a threat. I would say Iran is in a much better position now than it was 30 years ago to attack ships in the gulf as far as missiles go, so let's hope the Navy's weapons development has kept pace. But I wouldn't say they can produce any real threat to our ships. I wouldn't consider diesel subs from N. Korea to be anything other than a floating coffin for their sailors, should they attempt to use one against our fleet.

It's a game of brinkmanship and posturing from the Iranians, or more likely Israel crying wolf.

O NO, Iran has capabilities that we had in the 70's ... the world better watch out.

This is serious, they have stuff they want to play with. They are finally figuring out how some of the stuff they have boughten works. We just sold them the manual last week.

Where and how does Israel get its oil from? I know this is off subject but being everyone in the arab countries (most of all Iran/Syria) has issues with Israel; how do they survive?

The Phalanx is too slow for supersonic missiles. The subs are Russian not NK. It's their neighborhood not ours and we're broke. As I said, destroying the port transfer facilities would be the easiest. Since they can't be rebuilt quickly and you don't have to starve the west for long to finish the economic catastrophe that it brought on itself.

I like star wars. The jedi always battling evil. I'm on the jedi side. Irans retoric reminds me of the dark side and allies. they need to get some, get some of their own medicine.

Iran blocking the straight of Hormuz would last....oh i dont know, about 2 hours? I dont see what the fuss is about. They wouldnt be choking off the supply of oil to just the US but the WHOLE freaking world. You dont think that would piss off China, Russia and the others?

You might wanna modify your title...It's a bit misleading...Here I am thinking the US is screwed and then I realize the article in question is titled "Iran PREPARED to Block Gulf Oil and Wreck Western Economies". As in...they conducted war-games and are Prepared should they ever need to conduct a real blockade. Your title leads one to believe they are instead PREPARING to set up a blockade.

Is it just me or has anyone else really had it up to the eyes with these "Imminent Iranian Apocalypse" articles?

Just to put things into perspective...

For anyone who has (or hasn't) been active on these forums since Mid-2005 or 2006, these kind of articles have been springing up almost on a monthly basis since 5 years ago.

  1. First it started with Dick Cheney's plan to use false-flag attacks in the Persian Gulf to instigate a conflict with the Iranian Navy.
  2. And then Iranian missile boats "threatening" US destroyers.
  3. Then it was a huge US Pacific Fleet redeployment to the Persian Gulf allegedly setting up logistics for an invasion.
  4. Then we were being told cross-border raids and Special Forces incursions had already been going on.
  5. Then it was Washington giving Tel Aviv the "green light".
  6. Then it was massive Israeli Air Force drills allegedly in preparation for a decapitation strike.

Repeat Ad Nauseum.

These conveniently-timed reminders of how dangerous a world we live in almost always coincide with major drops in public approval ratings, collateral damage in Iraq/Afghanistan, unpopular legislation, etc...

I can't believe people still fall for this "Clear & Present Danger" diatribe regarding Iran.

not to mention the fact that Irans military is poo poo compared to the US. If they decided to initiate some kind of naval blockade, their navy would be wiped out overnight, by the US.

This is such a joke, and nothing but scare mongering to perpetuate the military state.

Yeah I know how you feel. They have these same reoccuring themes in the media and have for about 10 years now. Another one I keep noticing and getting annoyed with is Terrorists driving Toyotas

Every single time I read a terrorist carbomb explosion story it's a Toyota. Why don't they use a nice Citroen or perhaps a Ford?

With the Pope looking like the Emperor, Cheney referring to himself as "Darth Vader" and his "Empire" trying to take over the world, I wouldn't go painting the US as the Jedi.

I would hardly call this related to Israel. China and Russia are now involved. As if they care about Israel.

This is simply the world leaders securing their position as world leaders and agreeing to sop any new competition.
