Does anyone know where I can go to find out the current DEFCON status?

(I heard that the defcon varies with geographical location, ie; defcon 4 in Asia, defcon 2 in the middle east, etc...)

Note: ATS, an icon or link on your main page indicating the current DEFCON would be extremely unique. That is, if the information is available.

You will find information on a military installation if you are close to one.

I would if they would let me in. (I don't think so!) Also if I did walk in and ask I might end up answering more questions than I would like.

They will not shot you if you call and ask what is the defcon status trust me.

I hope the link help you, and I have access to military installations you only need a person with a ID card to get you a one day permit.

Gman,
Actually the threat condition (THREATCON) is the warning that varies with geographic location. The defense condition (DEFCON) is used to vary the level of readiness and alert status to the US military worldwide.

Sorry, I don't know of a website that displays the current DEFCON.

Tried norad's site. They don't display it, and aren't they the guys who issue the defcon status.?

Well, the California State Militia is at defcon 3: www.smc-csm.com...

The Connecticut Survivalist Alliance Defense Condition is at defcon 2: pub209.ezboard.com...

My very own Empire State Militia defense condition is 3: www.geocities.com...

There are many others; but none of what you asked for. I swear there used to be a website that listed our defcon status (I thought MacDill in Tampa used to) but I found nothing.

The site from NORAD used to display this information openly (I don't know why they don't anymore). I do however (just lately) feel I ought to know more about our military's overall state of prepardness. Am I scared? No. Just very concerned. If everybody knew that our forces were on a higher alert status, I just figured that that would send a clear message that we are not to be messed with as opposed to the color codes we are now using, which by the way are losing their credibility/usefulness simply because you can not continue to yellow/orange/red alert the populace constantly with out them becoming numb to it. It then looses any impact it might have had. On the other hand, a DEFCON alert change will get everbody's attention

You will find many things on military bases (or Websites), primarly Threatcon's (Alpha-Delta, most bases currently are in Alpha). However the current Defcon and any changes to it are classified

well I must submit something of contribution to the discussion it says.
I too was only looking for our readiness status. While it makes since that it is now classified. (everything of substance seems to be.) I guess will keep checking this for a source of info. I feel we are only told what they want us to know when they want us to know it. even the so called free press leaves out allot. anything we do know seems to be well after the fact. Ex. A million people were murdered in Africa. No one here was told for years. So I ask what don't we know now.

Also what I really seek is an understanding of how global society really works. What truly motivates our actions around the world and the actions of other nations. It seems we are given the song and dance of freedom this and good will that. I seems to be that no one does anything or gives up anything with out gaining something in return, even in some abstract way. I know this was long but just think about it and ill be waiting to see what you can dig up. remember something of substance and why do we or will we give a #. I want to hear it before rather thinks its important.
Goodnight.

From what I have read out there, DEFCON is not used anymore. It is now THREATCON.

I heard it was DEFCON 4, years ago but I might be incorrect.

I have close friends whom are officers in the armed forces we were talking about it a few years back, and sprung to my mind what was once said on news.
