has prompted calls for a boycott of Arizona by local officials in neighboring states.

... of course neighboring states don't like it. They have to either find the cahones to pass a similar law, or they risk getting the influx of illegals that are leaving Arizona!

More proof that the law is effective! Arizona Lawmakers should run for the US Govt as soon as possible! According to the polls, they already havea 73% approval rating!

Poor California. Adrift in a sea of irrational calculations once again.

From the article:

in a move that likely will affect some $8 million in contracts with the state.

Compared to:

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that Arizona’s illegal immigrant population is costing the state’s taxpayers about $1.3 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. Even if the estimated tax contributions of illegal immigrant workers are subtracted, net outlays still amount to about $1.3 billion per year. The annual fiscal burden borne by Arizonans amounts to more than $700 per household headed by a native-born resident.

Phase one: Who cares, they boycott us we boycott them
Phase two: who cares, we are boycotting each other
phase 3: another city/state boycotts AZ, AZians, no prob who cares about them
Phase 4: 3 states boycott AZ, tell them to keep their money we don't want it
Phase 5: 4 more states boycott AZ.
Phase 6: AZians: oh oh... we seemed to have shot ourselves in the foot like really really really really really really stupid stupid rednekcks!!!!!

phase 7: 15 other states pass legislation similar to AZ

oh darn. foot doesn't hurt quite so bad anymore.

well L.A. better keep their pens handy
cuz 15 more states have immigration
reform in the works. If L.A. boycotts
all of them, they're gonna be left behind
and isolated like North Korea.
Last i heard that didn't work out too
good for the North Koreans.

Big mistake L.A.
u have dug ur own grave
may u rest in peace

A 2004 analysis and assessment showed that illegal immigrants cost the state of California $10.4 BILLION annually.... In 2004!

Figure that number has grown since then, add the burden of a bad and worsening economy and you can see why California is in such a bad budget situation.

California will default eventually, people and business are leaving the state because of the incredibly high tax burden that is growing along with unemployment.

Someone in this thread said something about shooting one's self in the foot, seems more apt here.

California, especially LA needs to distract attention away from it's fiscal budget crisis.

You think Arizona has problems?

Wait and see what happens when California runs completely out of money and credit options.

LA has a massive budget defecit and has the cajones to criticize and boycott Arizona? Anyway we can budget a wall to put up on the Kalifornia border at the same time as the Mexican border?

I agree. And with as vocal as Cali is being about opposing these bills, illegal immigrants will rush there as a safe haven. If other states follow in Arizona's footsteps (as is looking like the case), many illegals will flee those states in order to find sanctuary in Cali.

Cali is going to tank one day if they keep this madness up- it's a miracle it hasn't already. Hope the feds don't bail them out.

Not that I am against helping the less fortunate. But you can't give what you do not have and Cali simply doesn't have it. Which is bizarre since they have a larger economy than most countries. But such is the inevitable fate of all welfare states.

Politically it has always been good to be on the side of illegal immigrants in California. Primarily because they (illegals) provide a valuable and vast source of cheap labor for major corporate political party contributors... and because it is popular with the large Hispanic communities in California.

By the way I failed to link to a report in my last post about that 2004 assessment...

usgovinfo.about.com...

Immigration reform will never happen in California, it is likely far too late for that now. Failure and eventually default is certain there.

At least Arizona leadership is trying to save their state, but also may fail.

Maybe eventually we should give up and hand over much of the southwest to Mexico?

Spoke like a true racist ignoramus. It's obvious you don't know the first thing about LA just watching too many movies or something "YALL". And yeah I'm sure the City Council is a bunch of illegals good point "YALL".

This will have no effect at all on Arizona. If anything it will be good for Arizona as many illegals will move to California and further drive their fiscal house into the tank.

Arizona should now stop any all and all business with any Los Angeles based firms.

Symbolic? Who cares about the symbolism?

(visit the link for the full news article)

I'll tell you what's symbolic. The GOP in effect boycotted AZ today by ignoring Phoenix and choosing Tampa for the 2012 Convention. That should seal McAncient's fate in 2012. That is 15,000 hotel rooms lost and at least $170 million AZ won't get.
There is a growing movement to move the 2011 MLB All Star game out of AZ with a $40 million hit. Arthur Frommer, the popular travel writer is advising travelers to avoid AZ. As the consultant for a new startup Part 121 air carrier, we notified Embry Riddle Aeronautical University that graduates of its Arizona campus need not apply. We will hire from the Daytona Beach campus. We have been told that after the notification, 63 underclassmen withdrew from ERAU. Legislation is pending that would require the California state pension system to divest itself of ant investments in Arizona companies. That probably caused America West (owner of US Air) stock to drop 35% today!.
And the list goes on...

Those 8 million illegal Aliens living in southern Cal have some good political weight don't they... They should be happy with 500k moving form Ariz to there and increasing their political clout even more.

Well, I don't play the word games of 'underfunded' and 'deficit spending'. If you don't have the money to pay your obligations, your broke! That goes for americas 'off balance sheet' 100 Trillion liabilities as well.

If regular folk try that garbage they get to wear an orange jump suit. As Greece found out, eventually the market calls your bluff and shorts you to oblivion. PIIGS, GB, US, next up.

Regardless, LA has bigger problems than worrying about Arizona!

But once AZ gets rid of the illegal issue, they will save HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars and they won't need the money coming in like EVERY other major city...they will be self sufficient because everyone there will be contributing and NOT leeching. What good is $40 million from a baseball game when all of it will go to support and pay bills left hanging by NON tax paying illegals? You think cities MAKE money these days off of these people who use their cities? Hell no...all or most of that cash is already spent for other BS........

AZ is going to have a tough road...agreed...but the people out there seem fine with missing out on a few things to get other things back on track.

I just boycotted LA and will do so with any other states/cities who strive to create a liberal voter base by passing US jobs over to illegals. Good Job, AZ. I hope more States follow the lead of AZ..although I know my own New York won't. You think Texas may be next?
