Canadian cannabis advocate Marc Emery, profiled in the disinformation documentary Escape To Canada, has given up fighting against his extradition to the United States. Story from AFP:

Canada’s self-styled “Prince of Pot” rallied supporters on Monday before turning himself in to Canadian authorities to be extradited to the United States to face a five-year jail term.

Marc Emery, 52, is alleged by US prosecutors to have sold more than four million marijuana seeds through the mail via his website. About 75 percent of the seeds went to US customers.

His wife Jodie Emery told AFP her husband expected to be extradited within “days or a week” after exhausting all legal challenges and an appeal for clemency to Canada’s justice minister.

“It?s absolutely devastating to think that I might not see my husband for five years,” she said. “It?s a harsh reality.”

The couple are still holding out hope that Emery may be allowed to serve his sentence in a Canadian jail to be near his family, if Canada’s Public Safety Minister Vic Toews consents.

“We hope to have him transferred here,” she said. Meantime, “I am going to keep busy by running our store and our website online, keeping the cause alive, rallying to bring him back home to Canada.”

Speaking outside the British Columbia Supreme Court before turning himself in, Marc Emery touted his activism to legalize marijuana as “the work of a great Canadian.”…

I'm also split on this issue. What is crazy is how he managed to sale seeds via his website. I didn't even think that could be done. Enjoy the read.

I think it is a total travesty of justice to be honest.
He should have known better then to sell his merchandise in the US though as that was his downfall.
He should have kept it local.

Whats that saying??
Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered.

He could face up to 50 years in jail..... For selling SEEDS. It's legal in Canada, where he is from, but when shipping to the US the most anyone has been charged for is close to $200. The gov't just wants to set an example because he stands for everything they are against. He brought the truth to the pot smokers about this corrupt corporate government, they didn't like that... A major injustice has been done. I don't even know what to say... I feel embarrassed to be Canadian.

Its very sad to see someone in jail for selling seeds for a harmless plant.Canada should be ashamed of it's self for letting him go to the u.s to be tried by the d.e.a I think people are finally waking up to how counter-productive the war on drugs really is.You can't control a persons morality..you just can't.I would never tell another human being what they could or couldn't put in your body.Legalise and tax.

This is sad day for our Country folks.

Marc Emery has done NOTHING wrong. He simply sold seeds.

That's it.

I can't believe that the Canadian Authorities have allowed America's War On Drugs to take over our country as well.

I'm appalled.

This is 100% legal in Canada.. It's not pot, yet.

As for the U.S, the same laws existed until about 7 years ago when it became illegal to own seeds as well, I believe... That's when the charges come up.

I mean... They are just going to look it as he sold all those seeds, a lot of pot was grown in the U.S because of it and with pot comes crime. So they say...

All this while the meth syndicates run rampant and free, torturing and killing people. What the hell is wrong with us? This country needs a war on drugs. A war fought by citizens like you and me that are sick of what is happening.

I vote for the reinitiating of a Spartan like society. One where everyone, including the wemon are warriors. Complete freedom of choice in a completely open democratic state.

He sold seeds? And that's it? WOW...

Is that Illegal in the USA or what?

That is ridiculous if that's the case.....

Here (UK) you can buy seeds, lights, Hydroponics.... anything and everything you want to do with growing, as long as you don't grow it

As if people aren't gonna grow it...

We have real grow shops and head shops in high streets and thousands of online sites, and all perfectly legal.

In case you missed the multiple times it's already been mentioned in this thread alone, selling seeds in Canada is not illegal.

Who you calling dumb?

Mj seeds are very healthy for you when consumed as a seed. Maybe he should of put for consumption only on the packets lol. I all seriosness that sucks.
Im a firm believer that people who become dependant on drugs, gambling, alcohol will always look for something to take away the pain if you take away the bottom step on the ladder you just have to step higher so to speak.

How are you split on the issue?

This is just nuts, I hope someone busts him out of prison and hangs those involved prosecuting him on a lamp post by their underwear. Enough is enough, damn it all, I wish I had the power! Time to hold the authorities under OUR thumb and demand they let people be! No more insanity gahhhhh!!!

Damn, I know he is using his time in prison to benefit the cause, but its just too much. This man sold the seeds of a plant that truly can heal nations economically and spiritually. I hate violence, but if I were him, I wouldn't be extradited without gunning down the perpetrators. They are locking him up in the U.S for selling pot seeds out of Canada and he is a Canadian citizen!!!!

I swear if every cannabis sympathizer out their said "no more" and defended their freedom to grow and consume,or not consume what they want by gun point, the corrupt authorities would think twice before...oh who am I kidding, they would just gun down everyone who smokes pot.

This is very sad for marc and his family, I suppose that's what you get for making people see sense. The nail that stands up gets hammered.

He should go on hunger strike for everything except poppy seed bread products, make a show of the US authorities. Hypocrites.

Well, here's to hoping he gets a very light sentence.
He is on the forefront of the battle to legalize MJ, and probibly will go down as a marter for the cause.

I don't think what he did was wrong at all, and I am hoping that more people stand up and do exactly what he did. Sell the seeds, make a little money, and help fight to legalize the green.

So many of us are sick of Governments trying to control our lives. I recently discovered I have glaucoma and even though medical MJ is legal here in AK, you cannot get it unless it is bought illegally.

Free the green! This is a BIG conspiracy, one of control and fear. Take the crime out of MJ, and let the people deside for themselves how they want to deal with it in thier personal lives.

I generally don't say much when it comes to the MJ debate. I just kind of watch and hope the US gov realizes what it is they are doing by telling people NO, you cannot have this plant.

It's about choice, and having the ability as an adult to make that choice. A choice I am not allowed to make to help save my own eyesight legally.

So is God a criminal for causing these plants to grow on earth also? It cracks me up how people try to control a plant or seeds.

But hey, we all know what it’s about don’t we? It’s about getting their cut and jailing those who threaten their little "illegal" private market.

I personal don’t use the drug but I hate that someone can spend 5-10 in a jail cell because of market control. That’s of course why it’s illegal, market control.

I think we could use his jail cell and the tax dollars that will be spent on him for a bigger monster.

He didn't actually sell any drugs across borders, let's look at what he actually did.

He sold seeds with absolutely no psychoactive properties. These seeds could then potentially be used to grow plants with psychoactive properties, although they are equally likely to grow plants with no psychoactive properties depending on the sex of the plants. It's possible these plant's may be grown legally or illegally depending on the place these plants are finally grown.

So you're supporting the fact that the guy is being prosecuted for a victimless crime someone else may or may not commit in a different country and you're telling us he's stupid. We're supposed to be the ones with scrambled egg for brains.

Marc did exactly the same thing as any bakers selling poppy seed bagels except most people are to self righteous and stupid to understand the concept.

Yeah it is pretty dumb, setting up an online company that supplies seeds of an illegal plant is retarded. He could have just sold in canada and been fine. Im not saying the law is right or wrong what im saying is that that man there is a retard.
Poppy seeds and even poppy flowers are legal but manufacturing drugs from them is illegal. Kind of like gasoline and paint you can own it but you can't walk around huffing it.

I'd like to know.

Why Marc Emery?

There are thousands of internet seed companies that sell cannabis seeds to the US and they (DEA) are only picking on one? Why?

The fact that you think a man standing up for what he believes in is retarded says an awful lot about your character, either you know nothing about the man and are simply shooting off a knee-jerk opinion or you're a......well, I'll avoid being insulting.

Either way, say what you like about him, as far as I'm concerned he's willing to sacrifice his freedom in the name of other peoples, that makes him more of a man than either of us and I wish him well.
