Muslim Moderators?

One thing I consistently see across the board here on ATS is bashing of any 'Islamic' based subject.

I see on a daily basis complete fabrications, and outright lies about Islam being propagated as truth on ATS. Most of it, is either through simple lack of education about the Islamic faith, media bias, or worst of all - racist, bigoted intent.

I know we have lots of CHRISTIAN moderators - would it be possible for some of our MUSLIM veterans (if we have any) to be put into a position of SME or moderator? Having someone who could consistently act against the underlying hate speech about Muslims would be great.

Before anyone asks, I'm white and an atheist. I seek balance in the chaos.

It wouldn't surprise me if a few aren't. There are enough apologists on here already, without feeling the need for mods to censor what you deem a mistruth. Is there Muslim bashing on here? Yes. Is alot of it deserved? Yes. Do the same apologists come out of the woodwork to justify everything the Musloms do? Yes. Seems like it's never gonna end, with both the accusers and the apologists......why make it even worse?

And what should this Muslim King Moderator do? ban anyone who speaks against islam? Just bring your muslim friends on the forum and discuss the issues you don't need to be a moderator to do that.

defend yourself don't ban people for saying stuff about your religion you don't like. If you see so many bad understandings of islam then please start correcting them.

and people have missconceptions about christianity too, but there is no moderator that will do something about it even if they are christians, why? Becuase we undestand the concept of FREESPEECH.

Give me one instance of a modrator punishing someone because of a "misconception" on chirstianity? if you find one I will 1. leave this forum beause I think its BS and 2. shame on the mods for it.

But I'v never seen it.

Interesting points.

I agree with you that criticism of the Islamic faith is definitely warranted, and deserved. Much the same as criticism about christianity or any other religion.

I don't agree with you that the 'apologists' try and play down EVERYTHING bad done in the name of Islam - I think most of those said people try to apply context to a situation that most people DONT WANT to undertstand.

My point is, I don't think we're denying ignorance about the subject of Islam, when all we can find on ATS is pointless hate-speech drivel about Islam. It would be nice to have a moderator or two that was as harsh on Islam bashing as they are on Christian bashing. This is by no means a criticism of the moderation team, as it's a tough job to police speech about something you don't understand. Hence why I think some diversity in the people doing the policing would be grand.

I don't care what race,nationality,political affiliation,sex,
ancestry... a mod is.I just ask that they are fair and unbiased
when rendering a decision on this board.

It's normal to have mods of various beliefs , including Islam .

It would only help the ATS and the quality of the discussions imho .

Parallax has a good point , all that drivel about Islam actually gets a tad bit boring .

Moderating has nothing to do with a Moderators background or beliefs and everything to do with the T&C. There may or may not be Muslim Moderators, who knows. Moderators are chosen by other criteria.

Funny thing with ATS, when we ask members to join the staff, we don't bother asking them about their race, color, nationality or faith. Why? Because we want them to be a part of the greatest staff on the internet as a result of their level headed, unbiased approach to the forums.

We've got staff from all walks of life. Unfortunately, there's an abundance of anti-muslim and anti-jew rhetoric on the boards and the staff struggles to keep up with it all. I also think that, unfortunately, these two areas are given a bit more leeway than other areas of anti-(insert anything) discussions. I know that I don't like to get involved in any staff discussions on anti-jewish comments, unless they are truly off the wall hatred.
