One of the things that struck me most about the video were the people in the background screaming Allahu Ackbar!! I saw a girl which looked fairly young and 'moderate' and a dad with a young child, fist in the air, screaming the same mantra that has been screamed at beheadings, executions and suicide bomb attacks.

If this is how what seemed like 'moderate' muslims react to a violent gang attack, then what are we really dealing with?

What percentage of the moslim population in Europe really feels this way, and truly undermines and disrespects the culture in which theirs is host?

Here's a snippet of an update on the story:

Vilks reportedly was in shock and had his glasses broken in the melee Tuesday, at a lecture marked by a violent protest that prompted police to use pepper spray and batons to remove Vilks from the scene. The artist says we wants to hold the lecture again if the university, Sweden's oldest, will reinvite him. This year, Vilks, 53, was the target of an alleged murder plot. He has faced death threats since depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad as a dog in a 2007 illustration. "What you get is a mob deciding what can be discussed at the university," Vilks told the AP. "I'm ready to go up again," he said. "This must be carried through. You cannot allow it to be stopped." Battles over freedom of expression vs. beliefs about Muhammad depictions have been waged on several cartoon-related fronts this year. Comedy Central recently censored attempts by the animated show "South Park" to depict and satirize Muhammad, said the show's creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Comedy Central's editing of recent episodes prompted some cartoonists to show their support for Stone and Parker, whose show sparked talk of violence by the New York-based group Revolution Muslim. Seventeen Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonists recently signed a petition to support the "South Park" creators and their right to freedom of expression without threat of violence. Several days ago, another Pulitzer winner, Pat Oliphant, added his name to that petition.

After some consideration (and calming down), I get the feeling those people were just bitchin', playing victims, trying to make a fuzz, and most importantly, trying to get attention. The whole Allah Akbar thing is the main thing that makes me draw this conclusion. Call it gut feeling, but I can't seriously think somebody would behave that ridiculously unless they were simply trying to pimp themselves in the news.

Bah, whatever. I want to make this clear; Muslims in Sweden are given plenty of room. They have the exact same rights as everyone else. The only thing they aren't allowed to do is suppress another person's freedom of speech, or otherwise abuse them, like Vilks. That's not too hard to live with, now is it?

And if those few who did this can't live by these rules, I don't think they'll function in any civilized society at all, Sweden or other. But that's not our problem. Our problem is, they can't function in OUR society, and as such, they should be deported, instantly.

Not just because they're infringing on the rights of our Swedish citizens - and act like they have a RIGHT to do what they did to Vilks - and because they behave like terrorists, but also because they, by their actions, lay the groundwork for, and are, actually, instigating violence. Whether it's muslim-against-Swedish-cartoonists, or Swedish-racists-against-innocent-muslims violence, it's still violence.

People need to consider, in today's information society where their actions can end up on Youtube and subsequently CNN only minutes after they've been carried out, what kind of effect said actions will have. We do not want a race war, religious war or any other kind of war here. And don't forget, you're living in a civilized society. I suggest you act like it, or move to one that isn't if you're not satisfied with that.

But when in Rome, do as the Romans.

They'll get the same reaction or worse if it's on Buddhist, Hindu or Christian.

I don't think so. I was watching a music video yesterday of a guy rapping inside of a Christian church. He was using various obscenities while comparing himself to Jesus Christ. Many people were offended by the video but most found it hilarious which it was.

As same, some people also feel offended by Monty Python's "Life Of Brian". In December a danish paper printed a blog with the headline "Obama is bigger than Jesus". If it had been "Jesus is bigger than Muhammad" or "Obama is bigger than Muhammad", hell would have broke loose. Resorting to physical attack on Vilks after joining his lecture, well knowing what he stands for, is as irrational as if a vegetarian visit a steakhouse, and then complain about the menu

Just, it's hard not to believe, that there are so much more behind such hatred against the "Muhammad cartoonists". When i think back on the danish Muhammad "crisis", it was more like "finally we got a legal excuse, to fuel the hatred". Some of the "powerful" islamist way to keep the more "liberal" muslims in line and make sure they don't get to much taste for the western lifestyle and start questioning too much and wherefore the fanatic islamist have to make sure, not to put their credibility and power at risc. Mind control at it's worst.
Wonder what "issue card" they would pic, if they were not granted the "Muhammad card" ? He's sacred, so why on earth these violent attacks? Instead of letting go, the fanatics more confirm rather than deny, that islam is not that peaceful. Fanatics they surely are, when they are capable of violence and wishing other people dead.
As far as i'm concerned, Vilks are doomed for lifetime. So if he's to repeat the lecture...Why not ? it won't make any difference now

Starred your post!

I feel we have given too much of our freedoms away and given them too much freespeech!!

They have gone too far IMO...

Sometimes i think we should never have allowed them to venture out of their homeland... you may say that this is a bad thing to say but if they can't leave their state of mind back home then they c can't live in the Western World!!

Look at all the trouble today between Islam and every other religion and people... why is it that everytime i view the ATS boards there's problems relating to Muslims?

Whether it's on TV News, Internet News... it's always them... suyicide bombing, attempted bombing, demonstrations, etc etc...

I'm really beginning to get quite sick of reading about them or hearing about them... one reason i stopped watching the news on TV was to avoid all the depressing stuff going on in the World but it seems i can't avoid it on the Net either...

It's here to stay for many years by the look of it...

Thanks for the star, man.

You know, I don't really think these people can be considered muslims. Sure, they may CLAIM they're muslims, but violence seems to be their religion, not Islam. In all honesty, I think people like these are just using whatever religion they call theirs as an excuse to let out their hatred towards...well, westerners, I guess is the most likely target. Not necessarily whites or blacks, or Mexicans or jews, but just westerners.

And I think that hatred is possibly rooted in something else, other than Islam, something deeper and hidden in the depths of their minds. What that is, I have no idea, though. But I'm certain they're only using their religion as an excuse to bring and incite violence, which is why you will see other muslims condemning that type of behavior.

That being said... I welcome all foreigners to Sweden, as long as they come here legally, and play by ourrules. They're called "human rights", and they include right to free speech.
