I have followed the threads on this disaster closely and I apologize if this is "old news". I couldn't find anything with the (in my opinion terrible) search feature and strongly feel this deserves a thread, especially considering the blackout on this shocking aspect of the catastrophe.

According to this Interview on MSNBC the whole thing could have been prevented by installing a 500k$ fail-safe mechanism called an acoustic switch system, that is mandatory in any country but the US.

Wether or not this system could have prevented this particular Spill might be up for debate, as I am just now investigating this, however, if there was any chance this could have prevented it, that would sure be a sickening display of greed with dire consequences, for essentially being to greedy to spend a couple of hours worth of profit, if that, once this would have been fully operational.

Here are some other sources I have read so far on the subject. Again, apologies if this is old news.

EDIT for additional Source article.

I think this was a planned event. Obama did not and does not want drilling of any kind. He was forced to abide by the Bush agreements for the drilling and used it to his advantage but he does not want drilling. This includes onshore drilling. He does not want the Dakota reserve tapped that would take 40 years to use up. He definitely does not want the Colorado reserve touched. He is pushing electric cars when he knows it is the wrong way to go. He is pushing Global Warming even though he knows it is a scam because Cap & Trade can do such damage to the US taxpayers.
For all the Socialist talk around, Obama is an Elitist who thinks that he and his crowd know best. America must fall and the Rich must rule.

Excellent! I had seen / linked the WSJ article but had not seen your other sources.

Only to add:
BP fought oil rig safety measures

I read on a thread on here that the oil industry succesfully negotiated the removal of this safety measure during the close energy meetings with Cheney. Don't know if this is true.

But I think we can safely say that offshore drilling in the gulf was a bad idea after all. George Wanker Bush and Dick Dickhead Cheney: The gift that keeps on giving.
