Dr. Gartrell is spreading the word that he is not the infamous Aussie Bloke. After returning home from a vacation the good doctor was surprised and enraged at what had transpired while he was gone.

News.com.au

The 60-year-old, who now runs a blueberry farm at Mt Compass, has written a thesis on comets, but says that's where the connection ends.

Returning on Saturday from a caving conference in Tasmania, he found his telephone message bank and his e-mail crammed with messages from overseas including one from a US journalist keen to break the comet story.

The person posing as Dr Gartrell first posted messages on Internet sites from "Aussie Bloke". He then identified himself as Dr Gartrell.

Not that this will make any difference to the true believers since it appears that nothing short of seeing July 1 will convince them. It is to bad that this man had to brought into this through no fault of his own. For what ever reason this particular dooms day scenario struck a cord with some people and just would not let go.

*sigh*

Hopefully this will finally convince people that this whole incident was just a hoax. Plain and Simple.

Great find Duke_Nukem

Sadly I believe that even with the passing of time (the time of the hoaxed impacts) many people will remain convinced that it is going to happen and that the fake Gartrell (hoaxer) just had the time and dates mixed up.

There are some somewhat odd things going on with military (naval) movements, and financial issues, Venus Transit, and other points made that keep people believing that something bad is about to happen.

Having the REAL Gartrell come forward to expose this hoax should have put it to rest, however in some it has only made their fears more intense through thinking this is all part of a grand cover up.

I guess only the passing of a great deal of time will prove this is a hoax to many people still willing to believe in it.

This is a very interesting story.

I checked out the thread regarding this every now and then, and it was a very detailed story. Never took it too seriously though. I'm sure it won't be too long before another doomsday scenario gets played up. Oh well.

You mean the men in black couldn't have gotten to him? You mean this is just not possible?

Of course that's not at all possible. You MUST believe what people say.

[sarcasm]

kidding aside, we'll all see how correct he was come the end of this month.

Of course it could be "possible", the point of the story is that whoever Aussie Bloke is, he is not Dr. Gartrell. Unless "THEY" got to him.

whoever ab is....he must have pretty good info on the true gartrell...possibly a former associate still affilliated trying to throw the trail?...I mean isnt it obvious that ab knew gartrell was out of town?...I choose to remain a little bit open on this...there are just too many correlations with other events....

I would be REALLY mad if someone did that to me.

I mean really, who messes with Blueberry farmers anyway
.

How did this get so big in the first place. Maybe I'm out of it in the astrology department, but I didn't even hear about it until it was said to be a hoax.

You mean you missed out on all of this? The intrigue, the mystery, the pathos, the silliness.

Ok I've read up on this now finaly, after far too many threads articles and posts, lol.

I agree with others: the question should be, how did this imposter know Gartrell would be out of town? Does he/she/they know Gartrell? What is Gartrell doing (if anything) legaly or otherwise to find out? I would be very upset by such misrepresentation, and would probably take legal action!

Is someone trying to make him look bad? If so, is it a former associate or friend?

Is the real Gartrell involved in something that this whole hoax and redaction is cover for?

Or is it all just a coincidence?

Regardless of what/who is behind it all, it stinks, and someone somewhere should have to answer for it...atleast moraly, if not legaly.

Evidentally I did. I don't watch the news unless I am at my father's house (he seriously reads the newspaper while listening to the news on TV. Then he watches COPS and goes to bed. And yeah, he's really white.)

I also don't read the paper, because I'm not spending good money on what I can get on the web.

I'm not really into space and stuff, so when I see something about it, it normally gets tuned out (alone with my wife's voice... OOPS, forgot to bring in the trash cans. I'm in trouble).

Man this Aussie thing is crazy. What a way to get famous. Probably a dumb question. But with some many threads dedicated to this subject I didn't want to spend the next week reading all of it to find an answer. Is there a post or perhaps a thread that actually proves this to be a hoax? Is there credible evidence or could it be a smear campaign against a whistle blower? I have no idea. I'm just guessing here. If there is one good post that sums it all up I'd love to read it.

Can anyone prove this thing is a hoax? Does anyone have some SERIOUS proof of it being a hoax? I'm dying a little bit everyday since I read this whole story....I'm really feeling very bad about it.
