It looks pretty cool, and it does look like they discovered certain processes that have enabled them to go from one step to many steps on the top of
the water.
Running faster
Running in a slight arc, instead of straight
Running with water proof shoes that are lightweight
The water proof tennis shoes that they wear might actually contain large quantities of very small air pockets that gives them the extra buoyancy to go
farther.
