And this is the part where we play, "Let's break down the quote."
Let's begin from the start:
The information that the Central Intelligence Agency has obtained by questioning men like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has provided valuable information
and has helped disrupt terrorist plots, including strikes within the United States.
So reading this part, we see that thanks to the CIA's interrogations of terrorists like KSM, they have been able to stop terrorist plots from
happening overseas as well as terror plots within the US. This means that this is already well AFTER 9/11/01. 9/11 has already happened and they
were unable to stop it from happening. But now, thanks to the CIA, they have been able to stop many more planned attacks from being carried out.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed described the design of planned attacks of buildings inside the U.S. and how operatives were directed to carry them out.
This means that KSM is already in custody AFTER 9/11. He has told the interrogators about other plots he was assisting other AQ terror cells with
including more attacks on the US. Notice, he is talking about other operatives and other planned attacks which may strike other US cities.
Specifically attacks on buildings. Notice, he (KSM) is talking in FUTURE tense and Bush is telling us in PAST tense of what KSM said. Write that
down Simon. The difference between "future" tense and "past" tense. What we have here is a retelling of KSM as he was having information extracted
which talked about FUTURE plans of attacks he helped design and coached.
That is valuable information for those of us who have the responsibility to protect the American people. He told us the operatives had been
instructed to ensure that the explosives went off at a high -- a point that was high enough to prevent people trapped above from escaping.
Ah the main meat. So, it has been stated that KSM is in custody, spilling the beans on many planned attacks which were to come AFTER 9/11/01. He was
helping to design more attacks and here, he states that there were plans for MORE terror cells to attack tall buildings (how tall we can guess) with
actual EXPLOSIVES. Notice. No mention of aircraft. What were used as weapons on 9/11? Airliners. Aircraft. How could Bush forget the aircraft if
he was allegedly alluding to the WTC? Now, this may very well have also been helped by KSM who recommended to hit a building at a point just high
enough to trap a LOT of people to get them killed. The "students" of KSM may have thought about the best way to strike would be to use an airliner,
rather than trying to sneak explosives into a building. Don't tell me people cannot think of better ideas from an initial idea. This may well have
been the case. Rough idea: hey guys, take bombs and blow up the building about 1/3 of the way up to trap and kill as many people you can. Atta's plan:
instead of bombs, lets hijack a plane and use that as a flying bomb. Far easier to steal a plane (pre-9/11) and kamikaze it into a building than
trying to sneak tons of explosives into the building without being caught. (Again this is purely my speculation as to who came up with the details of
attack on 9/11/01) However, as we can see, KSM is talking about FUTURE plans of attacks that have not yet been implemented, and the CIA and other
intelligence agencies have been able to stop in the early stages. This is why Bush is asking for permission to expand the detention and interrogation
of terrorists to extract valuable information to stop any future attacks on the US overseas and here stateside.
We've also learned information from the CIA program that has helped stop other plots, including attacks on the U.S. Marine base in East Africa,
or American consulate in Pakistan, or Britain's Heathrow Airport. This program has been one of the most vital tools in our efforts to protect this
country. It's been invaluable to our country, and it's invaluable to our allies. Were it not for this program, our intelligence community believes
that al Qaeda and its allies would have succeeded in launching another attack against the American homeland. Making us -- giving us information about
terrorist plans we couldn't get anywhere else, this program has saved innocent lives.
And this part is pretty much summed up in my previous commentary about how valuable interrogations have been is stopping MORE planned attacks, and
gave a few more examples of foiled attacks that were directed at overseas targets. This goes back to information extracted from KSM and other high
ranking AQ detainees.
Does it make sense yet? Bush was talking about future planned attacks which would have included terrorist cells using explosives in buildings. They
were planned. KSM was not talking about the WTC or 9/11 at that point.
