I've spent some time reading this law and these posts and there are a few issues that have not been mentioned or discussed. First, I agree we have
rights as citizens of a the worlds greatest nation. We are also a social country and have responsibilities to our nation as well as our community. I
believe this law is just in that it addresses a social problem. Most of the posts that are against this law seem to have a selfish "my my my"
mentality and it saddens me to no end.
Since there isn't an "American Race" we are forced to try and delicately preserve this idea of America from those taking advantage of our great
country. I am sorry there are citizens that are of the same race as people neglecting our country. However, you have a responsibility to demonstrate
you are not one of those people. I have that same responsibility when I travel abroad. I need to demonstrate that I am supposed/allowed to be
somewhere.
I object to government ruling my life and in most cases fight against more government, however, I expect certain action be taken by the government to
preserve my rights. I do think that we have a responsibility to allow the government to enforce the laws. Just because you are not Legally required to
carry an ID, why make the officer have to do more work than he has to? If you not proud enough to be able to show you are a citizen, it seems you have
something to hide. I don't think we need to be wearing yellow stars on our shirts, however, as a social community where we are not on the island of
"me me me" we do have the responsibility to prove who we are, and we should be proud of the fact we can. Sorry if it is an inconvenience, sorry if
you think that living in a society doesn't mean having certain responsibilities, like being able to prove who you are - even if it is not mandatory -
sorry if you feel like YOUR rights are infringed upon while our country is soiled. If we didn't have the problem of being a melting pot of really
good people, it would be that much easier to find the problems and fix them. Do yourself a favor, as well as your community, think of us as a Nation
of joined people and not "the island of me." Sorry if proving your identity is somehow infringing on your rights, but if it helps keep our families
safe, I hope you find a way to get over it.
