Hello out there!

I would like to relate a story to you. A truthful story. About 15 years ago my brother and I were sitting in our grandparent's house watching television. There is a big picture window in the living room about 10 feet wide by 6 feet tall. So my brother and I were at the far end of the room watching television. Outside it went from really nice and sunny to cloudy and overcast. It proceeded to rain. I remember that it was tornado season as we had a few that year.

Well it started raining and as usual there was some thunder and lightning. About 10 minutes into the storm a bolt of lightning hit what appeared to be directly outside of the picture window. I caught it right out of the corner of my eye so my guess was only approximate.

All of the sudden an orangish/bluish ball of light comes floating through the picture window, which was on our left. It was about the size of a basketball. I would say it was travelling about 2 miles per hour, about the same as a person walking. It floated past my brother and I from our left to our right, past the television and I dont know why but I got up to see where it went. I saw it make a sharp right down another hallway toward the kitchen. But I did not have the guts to turn the corner into the kitchen. Something told me not to look in the kitchen.

All of the sudden there was a big boom. My brother and I were literally speechless for a few minutes. We told my grandparents who at the time were in the other room. I don't think they believe us. Well my grandfather went outside the backdoor and there was a big chunk of concrete missing out of the back patio. So it is our guess that this ball of light floated through the house, at a slow pace, zigzaged through the house and out the back door window where it blew out the concrete.

I will tell you what was weird about this event. I had no fear of the ball of light, kind of as if it was meant to be and would not hurt us. It also felt like a spiritual event. Even though at the time I was just a child looking back it was a very proufound event which to this day makes me respect the Earth and nature's awesome power.

On a side, everytime I now hear of read about ball lightning I get a sense of fear as if it is going to return, as strange as it may seem. I guess it might be because you really do feel powerless when you see this stuff. I know this seems like an unusual event, but actually from what we have read online, these experiences with ball lightning are more common than one might think.

This event is something my brother and I experienced together and still to this day we do not talk about it, for whatever reason. I think I may need to sit down with him one day here though and reaccount this event and see what his thoughts are on it. It's just one of those things that really changes your outlook on everything.

According to my mother; ball lightning came through the window that was behind our TV when I was in front of it.
It circled around me, then went into the TV screen and blew it up.
I was 3 years old or younger (50 or more years ago) judging by the house we lived in at the time, in her story.
My mother, who I would describe as intuitive, is not given to flights of fancy.
It is surprising that I have no recollection of this, as I remember quite a bit from a very young age. I'll also try to remember to ask her more details of this!

I had a similar experience. While walking home one summers day, I could see dark clouds in the distance. Out of the blue I heard an explosion about 20 feet above my head. As I looked up I saw what looked to be an orange ball of light disintegrating. Almost like a bubble had burst.

After reading above, I'm glad it wasn't closer.

Jdawg, very interesting account and you're certainly not the first to experience something like that - there's a thread below dealing with accounts, interviews, articles etc.. about ball lightning and it appears mainstream science is also pretty stumped when it comes to explaining the phenomenon:

Ball Lightning and UFOs.

Cheers.
