Thank you for trying to quantify the point I was trying to make.
It is impossible for sea levels to have raised that much over that timescale.

Only way that boat could have got there is that is was either carried there over the last few thousand years or it is from some really ancient time before Ararat was raised that high; millions of years ago!

Im am not religious and I do believe that the Bible is a compilation of stories. With that said, all of these stories have to have some truth to it. All stories have some aspect of truth in them

And to be totally honest, I thought the dimensions of the Ark were the exaggerated part. But if they found something with the same dimensions....it has to be the Ark. Maybe not Noah's, maybe James', Paul's or even Jose for all we know.

What makes the Ark story any different than the stories of Troy or Atlantis. In any of the cases, the "known" authors have been verified as real people. C'mon guys, most of the general public still think that Christopher Columbus discovered America!

The wood is preserved in a glacier for thousands of years.

Mammoths bodies have remained frozen for the last 11,500 years. Flesh frozen for that long hasn't rotted, so the timber wouldn't have totally rotted after the same period of time.

Someone built a boat a long time ago, and this means what exactly? People knew how to build boats?

Why are there so many people "discovering" this over and over. Also, since it is found, how come no one can excavate around all of this and bring her down?

well my belief! is that the bible is tales of the Egyptian myth and Sumerian Babylonian history is so astounding ! example Horus / Jesus Noah/Gilgamesh the similarity of the the 2 are so close and tales of the the flood

I remember some ATS Members disbelieved the hay/long grass in the Photos that is show from the link on this thread ,, but no one realizes they found in Siberia ! Grass embedded in the mouths and stomachs of mammoths well intact! and a very well preserved baby mammoth found in 2007 ? i think the baby was 40,000 years old ! could it be the 20 to 30,000 year tilt theory! fall into place with this baby ?

Geological research has shown that pole shifts have not occurred in 200 million years. The only time a pole shift might have occurred is back 800 million years ago and it was slow. It took something on the order of a million years for the pole shift to happen. More work is being done to eliminate other possible issues that may be responsible for the apparent pole shift 800 million years ago.

The mammoths were not "flash frozen." The mammoths died and were frozen later. The famous baby mammoth drowned in mud. Bacteria pickled the body with lactic acid before the body was frozen.

The frozen standing up and claims of undigested food are made up embellishments that have been copied from place to place.

It is a huge hoax. The whole story is at scienceblogs.com... an athiest site run by a professor of biology. The wood was planted. The money for the expedition was misappropriated, etc. The OP title should be amended to say "hoax.

What was shown in the image the various tagged items - samples they brought back? It seemed difficult to determine the actual scale of their discovery from the images. Was it buried? Did they give any sense of how large the object was?

For all those claiming that the wood could not possible have been preserved for 4,800 years, please consider the artifacts found on the iceman called Otzi that was found in a glacier in 1991.

Although he lived 5,300 years ago, his clothing, shoes and cloak made of woven grass were well preserved in the ice. He also had wooden axe handle & several arrows made of dogwood that were intact.

I am not saying that the latest "Ark" find is real, I just want to point out that there is no reason to believe that these timbers would have been decayed just because they might be 4,800 years old.

For what it's worth this story was on GMA this morning, so it is hitting MSM. Whatever this thing is (and I hope it is the ark) its clearly a huge find.

According to the website Turkey has applied to UNESCO to declare the find a world heritage site, so it is clear that Turkey thinks this is a very important discovery as well.

As for the "hay" in a couple of the pictures, I thought the same thing at first too, how could there be hay left in there 4,800 years later? Look again. In one of the pictures it seems that it isn't hay but some sort of dead plant that had been growing up from the floor.

Why, why, why doesn't someone take a sample of the wood and finally tell me what they hell "dog wood" is?

The article is from 2009. When references are made to the previous fall it means 2008. It might be this 2008 trip when the place was salted with old wooden beams.

EDIT: Fake story or not. My point still stands. There are thousands of fake UFO/alien sightings a year but that doesn't deter the UFO community.

According to Gen 6:14 the Ark was to be covered inside & outside with tar or bitumen. This would have served as great protection against the elements. However the pictures provided by the Chinese team do not show timbers coated with tar.

The account in the Bible says that the Ark was made of gopher wood. It is only mentioned once in the Bible.
There is no agreement from Bible scholars as to exactly what kind of wood this was.

The more I look at this the more convinced I am that this is a fake.

If God actually used his power to cause the flood, why would he have let it run aground so high up in the mountains? Doesn't make sense. I think Noah and consecutive generations would have scavenged the wood for other purposes.

Isn't it possible that any signs of tar could of eroded in the past 4,800 years? Or mayhap the wood absorbed the tar?

Being exposed to the elements like that for 4,800 years could do some damage. That the wood is still intact after that long could be a sure sign that tar was used to protect the wood.

Fake or not, this is still super interesting.

It is not like Harvard has a team of archeologists looking for Noah Ark
These are fundamentalist and the governments who are making money from the fundamentalists . Every time a "find" like this is "found" a fundamentalist group is involved.

There is zero, yes 0 chance that there ever was a global flood. Why would smart people look for a boat if there was no flood ?

Sorry it is completely crazy to think there is truth behind the Ark story.

Regardless of more ancient texts OTHER than the Bible stating there was a massive flood? Sounds to me like that's some pretty good stuff to go on. I mean, people are still looking for Atlantis on the words of a man.

Entire portions of science have come from theories. Science is given the benefit of the doubt way too much. Why can't a Biblical find be granted the same convenience?
