Really, what EXACTLY is the purpose of the US Military?

We have states overrun by illegal immigrants. We have incursions into the US by foreign aircraft. We have "supposed" terrorists takeover private aircraft and crash them into our government buildings and "private" buildings.

Let me ask this again, WHAT THE FRELL IS THE PURPOSE OF OUR MILITARY?

I keep hearing all this crap about missile shields for Europe and protection for other countries.

Please explain to me again what is the purpose of OUR military?

I am just getting a little frustrated here. We spend more money on OUR military than the rest of the world. And we cannot keep OUR borders secure. We cannot protect OUR country. We cannot keep ILLEGAL aliens from staying in OUR country.

BUT we can "protect" or "help" other countries of the world.

Does not ANYONE else find this to be slightly amusing in a tragic/comedy sort of way?

The problem ins't a matter of "can't" but "won't"

we are too focused on the bigger threats, which would be nuclear mid-east states. I think immigration is always going to be a backburner issue because lets face it...Mexicans don't strap explosives to themselves and threaten jihad on all the White Devil Capitalists

I would suggest you do not - and should not - need to use the military to stop immigration. That's just a tad excessive.

I do wonder whether the US military is a bit big for what it does and can do, but that's probably just me.

Regards

It is suppose to kill people, There isn't enough reason to spend that much money on just our borders! Plus there wouldn't be enough people to kill without drawing everyones attention. The people who are in charge don't create wars for any other reason then it is fun. Kind of like a big chess game.

The wars will stop when you stop the war within yourself! That is the only way to bring peace. As long as you are at war with yourself, the world will be at war with itself.

It's kind of like, society is a reflection of whats going on within the individual. The individual represents the whole.

Well, the purpose of the military is to kill people and break things, but in the case of domestic problems, you won't see so much military action in the US, by design.

Unlike many countries, we pretty much forbid the active military from taking action within our borders, except in really odd circumstances. Which is actually a GOOD thing. So we have things like the US Marshal service, the DHS, the FBI and what not that are for federal police action inside the country, with some exceptions. The airplane bits you mentioned would typically be dealt with by the USAF, but even then they're slow to react to domestic events, because it's the sort of thing you have to be VERY careful about.

If you don't do it that way, you'll end up with the mildly creepy stuff you see in other countries where you can observe military doing police-type work with full auto weapons ready to rock. Personally, I sort of like it our way.

I actually agree with you there endisnighe. I think it would do this nation alot of good if somewhere around 10,000 troops (atleast) were moved from overseas to be put on the borders. That would do some good.

I also agree with strengthening the wall.

While we are on the discussion of the purpose of the US military, what has been the purpose in spending $600 billion a year on this military? What is the purpose of spending 40% of the worlds military expenditure? Should we not only be defending ourselves? What purpose did it serve to increase our military expenditure by over $1 trillion for the last 10 years? Why do we insist on feeding the military industrial complex?

Right, why do we need over 700+ foreign military bases?

What do we need to have military bases in 130 foreign countries?

What again do we need that kind of foreign control? Is it REALLY for the protection of THIS country?

We all know what it is for, two purposes, corporate control and the implementation of global governance. The sovereign status of foreign countries and this nation will sooner or later be questioned whether it really is necessary.

Every year it gets closer and closer.

Tyranny by any other name would not smell so repugnant.

well currently the purpose is to look after big business interest, such as oil and opium fields.

Alright, everyone is kind of getting my point.

I am one of those right wing extremist my government and the MSM loves to demonize.

YET, I do not fall for the rhetoric of the bull# of our military.

Yeah, the evil empire or the cold war is over is it not?

So again.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS MILITARY OF OURS?

Still have not got the answer that is so obvious that it should be hitting everyone in the face right now.

Control the masses, make lots and lots of money, instill fear, and partake in F-ed up experiments and practices that under any other guise people would find repulsive and horrific.

See, this is where I do not understand the Dems remaining quiet on the issue of the military now.

I find it both aggravating and hypocritical. I believe a lot of people are right, the TOTAL anti war dogma was NOT anti war but anti BUSH or anti Repub.

When will the idiots awaken to the OBVIOUS manipulation.

I am really thinking we Libertarians need to take over a state and start anew. Start with a totally free society and show the world that life is not meant to be controlled by these asshats.

It can be done. If we wait much longer though, the control parameters of the world will not allow it to happen.

I think Switzerland has a great model. Keeps the military expenditures down and still allows great safety.

Anyway, Peace and God Bless.

The US military's duty is to accost, intimidate and physically destroy anything or anyone who stands in the way of US monetary interests around the globe.

This would include any outspoken opposition, sovereign nation, whistle blower, peaceful resistance or domestic "enemy of the state".

Corporate stormtroopers fighting for the good old U$A inc. and it's business pals the world over.

That is not a bad idea at all and it looks like New Hampshire is the place to be:

N.H. Chosen for Libertarian Movement

CONCORD, N.H. -- A national movement has decided to move to New Hampshire, in an effort to enact laws endorsed by the Libertarian Party.

The Free State Project announced Wednesday that it plans to move 20,000 party members to New Hampshire to practice its platform --minimal government and maximum individual freedom.

I do know that here in Ohio Governor Strickland is enforcing our right to open carry. Which I found surprising.

Yes, a member here has brought that up. I have one last job to complete before I move.

I have not decided where I am going to move to yet though.

Could be another country. I have not decided yet. Unless the yolk can be removed, I do not see moving to a place like NH. Wyoming and Arizona have made larger strides against the federal government.

Time to tell the fed to PISS OFF though. No more frelling around. Time to tell them to take ALL of their parameters and just PISS OFF.

Our military might is a hold over from the cold war.

Remember that the Soviet commie pinko freaks were hell bent on threatening this great nation and many of our allies.

Which seem, for the most part, good people at heart. The evil eastern bloc countries where socialism had a strong foot hold and iron fist of rule was something that America never wanted encroaching on Western Europe etc.

Thus, after the late 80's big hair bands and communism were both on the decline. We just haven't really defunded the military.

If the military machine would have been nimble they would have switched their focus at that time, away from big all out Global Thermonuclear War with Russia into a smaller compartmentalized special forces through out the ranks.

Seriously, you can never go wrong with effective guerrilla warfare. It's effective everywhere.

Our military still does things old school to a great extent. They have modernized alot with technological advances but the mindset seems the same.

Since you asked... It's just my opinion; with a few relevant facts thrown in for confusions sake.

Too bad they can't just win the freakin wars they got us into (or are they Police Actions?) and have done with it. Americans are a 'get it done' type of people.

Must be someone else in charge??? I mean, who likes to drag their feet and take their time having tea & crumpets?

Having military abroad hasn't been earning us any favors stateside or globally. Maybe its time for us to bring back our military personnel and use that security blanket here.

Well the new broke earlier today, Burma is also acquiring nuclear technology. Every third world, dictator nation has nuclear tech on their wish list and N.Korean/pakistan/Iran/China/Russia are willing to lend a hand.

Love your analogy to the big hair bands of the 80's.

There is an actual picture of me and my brothers at a get together that MY FRELLING older brother put on Facebook that somehow has got spread to a few places. I have seen it on one site as a joke written as "what unknown 80's band is this". Okay, this is a literal license but the picture does exist.

We have to decide as a nation, do we do what is best for this nation, or do we destroy this nation to save the world.

I think this is the point we are at. We are bankrupt. Hell, I would love to see a diagram of the US on how much of this country is owned by foreign hands compared to domestic hands.

Many other countries of the world do not allow foreign ownership in their country. Not true here. It may be a truly eye opening graphic.

the reason our country is like that is because it is actually convienient for the US to have immigrants. they work hard at the jobs people wont do and they get their moneysworth if we didnt have them you would see that disemployment rates would go up due to the lack of half of californias population.
