Well since our beloved government leaders have made healthcare a right, then all logic would point us to the fact that food must be a right.

I demand my government food. How can I expect to have health, which they have declared a right, if I do not have food.

The way I see it we should tax the living hell out of those rich fat cats until they are just as poor as the rest of us, so we can have our right to food. That means I go to McDonalds... no bill. I go to a 5 star restraunt no bill. Just let the government pay it.

I have a right to fine and healthy foods. I want lobster for breakfast with a side of asparagus. I want steak for lunch, with some veggies and a nice glass of heart healthy wine.

So I guess the government will need to take over all means of food production and delivery in order to properly manage it. Maybe they can even provide each of us with a personal dietian and a workout coach.

Well then they will need to take over the gyms so we can get government supplied exercise. I want free protein shakes too. How am I going to build muscle without protein shakes?

Oh and we will all need access to free pools for proper, safe aerobic exercise. Jogging is hard on the knees, not good for healthcare costs. Biking is dangerous and I don't really want to have to look like an idiot who cant ride a bike when I have to wear a helmet.

Beyond this I dont think I should have to cook my own food, so I need a personal chef who knows more about proper foods than I do. Or if I want to go to a restraunt I shouldnt be forced to use my own car and gas to get to my God given right to food, so I need someone to pick me up and bring me home.

Just look at the bright side. I have just created like 10 million jobs. That should put a dent in unemployment.

If it came down to it you can grow your own food. You cant do your own chemo, very different things your speaking of here. Also, we're already somewhat doing that, with homeless shelters and food bank donations. You can roll on down there and get some nice turkey and mashed potatoes if youd like.

While your there you'll prolly sit next to some people who actually have a rough life and aren't able to afford healthcare and die from simple things like pneumonia. So preach on, your message is so caring.

I live in a townhouse and my backyard is a concrete patio. How am I supposed to grow a years worth of meat and crops on a concrete patio. I find myself to be landicapped and demand the government provide me with my right to food. Not crappy government cheese, but good healthy food.

Plus you can go to a non-profit clinic for healthcare but the government still demands we must all buy insurance or we are bad boys and girls. Beyond that I don't like turkey and mashed potatoes. Don't I have a right to the same food as the rich, if I have a right to the same healthcare?

Why do you hate me just because I am poor and landicapped? That isn't fair. Maybe you could me a little area in your backyard so I can raise a few pigs and cows and grow some corn. Don't be a hater!

Is this the third thread you've made on this topic?

It's okay, get a grip. Nobody is going to stop you from eating what you want. Eat, eat, eat. Stockpile salt if you wish, although I doubt there will be a big rush on it. You should have plenty.

Why should I pay to stockpile it when it is my right to food and therefore must be provided by the government. I am just going to stop eating until the government sends someone to hold my hand and carry me to the restraunt of my choosing.

Ok here, I'll give you a scenario. Since you want your sweet gov food, here we go. Normally, you can buy your own delicious gov food for lets say 100 dollars a year on your own, your neighbor isn't able to afford food so he steals from the restaurant.

Thus, the restaurant, needing to make up for the loss of it's stolen food raises your food costs up to 110 a year. Wouldn't it be nice if someone came along and demanded that your neighbor pay 50 dollars a year for his food, then you can also pay 50 dollars a year for the food you've already been paying for but since the restaurant isnt being strangled anymore by your neighbor they can give you that discount.

So, with your extra 60 dollars a year now you can actually shop around and perhaps find an even better restaurant that has employees that wash their hands after using the bathroom.

Then, now that you both have affordable food you both are secure and can sleep at night knowing your family wont starve and can go on to be productive members of society. Yay for progress.

Food is already heavily subsidized to make it affordable.

If you are in serious poverty, apply for foodstamps (which are highly stimulative to the economy, by the way).

You are absolutely right, in a nation as rich, wealthy, and moral as The United States, nobody should go hungry.

Best,

If you need to eat at a homeless shelter you qualify for government health care prior to this bill being passed. So no they aren't going t0o die of pneumonia unless they choose not to get treated or choose not to sign up for free health care.

I say we have a right to foods free from pesticides growth hormones and GMO's

I think that is the point of the OP in the first place. He just went about
it the long way.

It is true, that people in America or the whole world for that matter,
SHOULD NOT go hungry. The world produces enough food that no one
should ever have to go to bed hungry. I don't believe though, that the
government is the answer for absolutely every little thing in our life.
They have intruded long enough. But, no one should have to starve.

Well maybe they should just arrest my neigbor for stealing food. After all it is illegal to steal food. Then I could just pay for my food and not his and mine.

However, in my scenario the government would give us all the food we want and it would be free, except for the poor saps who are "rich", so my neighbor would not have to steal. The government will steal for him.

Yeah nobody should go hungry. But since according to the leaders of the country, we are the richest country in the world. We should all be able to pick exactly the food we want.

Plus, just think there are lots of people on welfare that dont feed their kids too well, so we should provide them with someone who can help them eat good foods and make sure the kids get enough.

Wouldn't it be foolish to spend all this money on healthcare and then they not have access to the very food they need to be healthy. We all know many people who arent good at choosing the right foods to eat for health, so they need someone from the government to prepare their menu each week.

Just gave myself a great idea. A national menu, where we all are given instructions on what food we should eat, how it must be prepared, and what are the proper portions for each member of the family based on age and size. The whole country could eat the same meal on the same day each week. It will be like one big happy family.

Yes, lets arrest him, then you can pay for him to be held in prison instead of buying your food as well.

You wanna know what my insurance is? Im gonna tell you anyway, it was a rhetorical question. Im 24 years old female, full time job and graduated from full time college just this week (yays). My job doesnt offer insurance so instead I have to go find it myself. I pay almost 700 dollars a month making 9 dollars an hour, 41 hours a week. This was after paying 25k out of pocket for gallbladder surgery because no one would cover me because of a history of gallbladder attacks.

And I'm not alone. I hate insurance companies, they're the real thieves here, not the government. I look forward to paying 8400 a year in health insurance for myself to be dropped if I ever actually get sick because I forgot to tell the insurance company that i didn't brush my teeth one day and plaque has been found in the arteries of heart attack victims.

Well you can thank the government when you have to pay even more for insurance and you dont have any choice whether to buy it or not. The price of insurance has to increase because there are no caps and people with existing conditions will have to be covered.

There's a big difference between the government providing enough food so kids, elderly, and others aren't hungry, and people who have the means to buy whatever types of food they so desire doing so, no?

I think both are totally compatible, and, quite frankly, desirable in 21st century America. I'm more than willing to have my taxes go towards programs that end hunger, and think that a government for, by, and of the people would make it a top priority.

Best,

Yeah a government for and by the people should want us to have the food we really want. Why should people in the richest country in the world be eating day old bread or unhealthy foods.

Poor people always say that they are forced to eat unhealthy because they cannot afford the good stuff. I guess that is why you see so many fat poor people in this country.

Lets do the right thing. Give them all a nice safe healthy diet of fresh seafood and vegetables prepared for them by dietitians. It is the only way to be sure they are getting their right to health.

If I have to microwave one more TV dinner that I bought on sale at the grocery I could be harming my circulatory system. I feel like I have a right to the very best and freshest foods to insure my optimum health.

Majority of the poor people and homeless, aren't that poor at all. Millions of people out of country collect dew just to have water. I don't see many homeless americans doing that. Although, many of them in michigan enjoy hanging out at local libraries. Free water and toilet sounds like the life to me. Plus I always see them having a ton of stuff. (backpack)

What you are doing is making a straw-man argument. I'm not talking caviar. I'm talking about basic food stuffs that are actually extremely CHEAP.

Yeah, America is extraordinary in having massive numbers of malnourished, obese people in poverty. Aren't you curious about that? Do some research instead of what you are doing here, Rush doesn't need another parrot.

Well lets give them a rolling cooler so that they can carry food behind it. They deserve to eat well. Maybe government scientists can create some sort of grocery cart equipped with a stove, refrigerator, and of course a generator, but yet still have room for them to fill it with random objects.

Maybe I should do more research, because healthy food is cheap. I just assumed they are too dumb or lazy to read the labels. Plus it is hard to feed a family in a healthy way when you think Walgreens is a grocery store.

Maybe we could create courses on how to read labels, use a calculator, and ban Walgreens and Seven Elevens for pretending they are grocery stores for the "poor". Hell, a government for the people would ban Walgreens and Seven Elevens from selling food at all. I mean have you ever bought a healthy food product at a Quik Stop?

Health is NOT a right, food is NOT a right, Life is NOT a right.

it is a gift.

Do not expect anyone to loom after you, the processes that we have as a society are man made, and designed to be adapted to the local governance of whichever country you are in. in the US, the cost of mecial insurance is sop high that the gov is trying to bring that down. good luck. but it is not a right, only it has become so by the perception of the people trying to enforce it.

when you are born do you have "the right" to food. only because that is what the human condition is designed to say. otherwise you're on your own and would most likely die. does the runt of the litter have a right to life. most, without human intervention, die. in a domesticated sense, but in the wild, you're toast.

Don't forget we are part of nature, and nature has claws and teeth, we don't. Only ideology. So if you want your right to food. know that the only rights you have are those that you grant yourself. So sell your townhouse and go build a farm. learn to keep, kill and cook animals. Because NO ONE will do it for you as a right. You are just lucky you live in a society where the people by consensus decide that these things are best, but as in all things are NEVER guaranteed.
