Quote from source:
Doha, Qatar - Islamic militant leader Osama bin Laden, the man the United States considers the prime suspect in last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, denied any role Sunday in the actions believed to have killed thousands.

In a statement issued to the Arabic satellite channel Al Jazeera, based in Qatar, bin Laden said, "The U.S. government has consistently blamed me for being behind every occasion its enemies attack it.

"I would like to assure the world that I did not plan the recent attacks, which seems to have been planned by people for personal reasons," bin Laden's statement said.

"I have been living in the Islamic emirate of Afghanistan and following its leaders' rules. The current leader does not allow me to exercise such operations," bin Laden said.

Asked Sunday if he believed bin Laden's denial, President Bush said, "No question he is the prime suspect. No question about that."

Since Tuesday's terrorist attacks against the United States, Bush has repeatedly threatened to strike out against terrorism and any nation that supports or harbors its disciples.

Bin Laden, a wealthy Saudi-born exile, has lived in Afghanistan for several years. U.S. officials blame him for earlier strikes on U.S. targets, including last year's attack on the USS Cole in Yemen and the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998.

I was just reading about this story and thought I would share it with the rest of you. This is directly from the CNN archives and say Bin Laden denies being involved in the attacks. I admit, yes, he could lie about it, but why? Why would he go to that much trouble and then not take blame for it?

I don't know, to me terrorists do not seem like the type of person to conduct an act like this and then deny having any involvement in it. Maybe it's just me?

Good to know that we are in 2 illegal wars and the evidence is on CNN hey?

Any thoughts?

Don't forget they let his family fly back to Saudi Arabia shortly after the attacks. If they really thought he did it why didn't they keep his family for questioning?

The evidence exists. Great find
Anybody out there still thinking this wasn't a false flag operation, carried out by (fractions of) the Bush Administration?

You need to look at some more recent stuff from OBL.

At the time of your quote I suspect he was trying to get his taliban pals off the hook or perhaps they were genuinely angry with him for putting them in danger.

There's no question that Osama Bin Laden had nothing to do with 9/11. Most of the population of the world know who the real perpetrators are. The US Government and the CIA, Mossad, NSA, FBI etc. They are the ones that murdered their own people.

There are loads of threads saying this and trying to prove this. But the only way anyone is ever going to know the truth is to get one or all of the murdering elite to admit it. Yeah Right!!!!!

And don't be surprised when there is another false flag attack coming soon. Obama has been talking about terrorists having nuclear weapons. You know what that means. Obama and his elite are maybe going to nuke their own neighbourhood.

Watch out America. Your president is trying to kill u!!!

I would check on that source if I were you, not the CNN and Al Jazzera, but exactly who released the statement purporting to represent OBL.

Um, allegedly recent. There's zero proof that the "recent" stuff is actually him. Unless, of course, you take the government at it's word. That equates to blind faith which I do not believe in.

Just like the "recent" stuff should also be checked. Either his statements were fabricated then or his statements are fabricated now.

But we all know that terrorists almost always take claim for their work. If OBL right after 9/11 said he had nothing to do with it, then that's good enough for me.

Besides, the FBI says they have no hard evidence of OBL's involvement either, so stop invoking the name of OBL. He obviously had no involvement in 9/11.

Wow. Thats stunning. You beleive that OBL is not involved because an annonymous source, purporting to represent OBL, releases a written statement to an Arab language news station 6 days after 9/11, but you think everyone in the FBI and your own government are lying to you.

Simply stunning.

Everyone knows that UBL had nothing to do with the attacks.

They haven't even updated his FBI's Most Wanted profile - been 8-1/2 YEARS!

Not ONE WORD on FBI's profile of UBL re: 9/11

it was the first thing that came out of is mouth ,

another thing was that saddam tried to give aid to the u.s after the attacks , bush refused to accept and invaded instead as a gesture of gratitude...

You haven't the slightest idea who released his statement. Just like you haven't the slightest idea of who releases his "recent" statements. There's no proof he's even alive. You know as much as everyone else knows and that's only what we're told by the news.

Oh and by the way, OBL denied it several times. Not just once.

But what is really stunning is you leaving off the part of my post that said the FBI has no hard evidence linking bin Laden to 9/11 either.

Listen up, peeps...

1) UBL was likely already dead before, or slightly after (when a bunch of the bogus videos were being released).
2) Freeing up the landlocked oil deals with the Caspian Basin is why we're really over there (and, I really don't have a problem with that).

Watch this - only 7mins (particularly Karl Schwarz segment)

So you admit you don't know the source for the statement and yet you are willing to accept it on face value, but you think all the videos seen on Al Jazzera are fakes, planted by the US government to cover up their involvement in 9/11?

Wow.

By the way, you should read the Mossaoui indictment if you think the government doesn't have enough to link OBL with 9/11.

By the way, please don't link to the FBI most wanted poster and the one statement made by an FBI spokesman years ago. That lame argument has been put to rest years ago.

You mean when Muckraker Report editor Ed Haas contacted the FBI to ask why bin Laden wasn't wanted for 9/11 and the FBI said there was no hard evidence? That has been put to rest? I'll expect you to post a source now.

An interview with Osama bin Laden was published in a Karachi-based Pakistani daily newspaper, Ummat, on September 28, 2001. In this interview, bin Laden says of the September 11 attacks in the US:

"I was not involved in the September 11 attacks in the United States nor did I have knowledge of the attacks. There exists a government within a government within the United States. The United States should try to trace the perpetrators of these attacks within itself; to the people who want to make the present century a century of conflict between Islam and Christianity. That secret government must be asked as to who carried out the attacks. ... The American system is totally in control of the Jews, whose first priority is Israel, not the United States."

There were at least 3 different interviews reported in the Middle East with OBL where he or whoever was writing on his behalf said he had nothing to do with it, at least one of them suggesting he believed either elements of the Israeli or American governments were responsible.

Not only would it not make sense to claim responsibility for such an obviously media-centered attack, but the predictable way the US responded doesn't seem like it would be that desirable for him to me. You know who wasn't complaining, though, was PNAC and everyone begging for war in the Mid-East before Bush even took office.

Likewise Bonez, there is no 'evidence' to prove that Bin Laden said the things you mention in the OP. No proof whatsoever. Just an article on CNN. Can you prove he said that he had no invovlement other than the article?

There is plenty of proof if one looks around a bit. It wasn't just an article on CNN. The following can be found at History Commons.

September 12, 2001: Aide Says Bin Laden Denies Role in 9/11 Attacks

A close aide to Osama bin Laden reports that bin Laden denies any role in the previous day’s attacks on the United States, but has praised those responsible for them. The aide, one of bin Laden’s senior lieutenants, speaks by satellite telephone with Palestinian journalist Jamal Ismail, who is the Islamabad bureau chief of Abu Dhabi Television.
Associated Press, Daily Telegraph

Of note, Jamal Ismail, the Islamabad bureau chief of Abu Dhabi Television has long-standing ties with bin Laden and has conducted several interviews with him.

September 13, 2001: Taliban Says Bin Laden Denies Role in 9/11 Attacks

Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban says that Osama bin Laden has told them he played no role in the September 11 attacks on the United States. Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, tells Reuters

September 16, 2001: Bin Laden, in Statement Read on Al Jazeera, Denies Involvement in 9/11 Attacks

Osama bin Laden, the exiled Saudi multimillionaire considered by the United States to be the prime suspect for the 9/11 attacks, issues a statement through the Arabic satellite television channel Al Jazeera, in which he denies responsibility for those attacks
CNN, Washington Post, Associated Press

September 28, 2001: Bin Laden Again Denies Involvement in 9/11 Attacks

“I have already said that I am not involved in the September 11 attacks in the United States", bin Laden says in an interview conducted by a "special correspondent", published in the Pakistani newspaper Ummat on 28 September
The Daily Ummat of Karachi

October 7, 2001: Bin Laden Issues Video, Warning the US, but Does Not Claim Responsibility for 9/11

In a recorded statement broadcast on television worldwide, Osama bin Laden issues a strongly worded message to the United States, but makes no claim of responsibility for 9/11. The recording is broadcast on the Al Jazeera television network within an hour of the first US strikes on Afghanistan, and is then shown by CNN.
New York Times, BBC

Mid-November 2001: Bin Laden ‘Confession’ Video Made, According to US

The release of the tape, which will be said to be found by US intelligence officers in Jalalabad, will be a major news story, and the tape will be taken by the media as proof of bin Laden’s guilt.
Guardian, BBC, Fox News, CNN

However, the tape will later be disputed from three points of view:

* The accuracy of the translation will be questioned.

Professor Gernot Rotter, scholar of Islamic and Arabic Studies, Asia-Africa Institute, University of Hamburg: "Regardless of the question if bin Laden personally was actively involved in the organisation of the attacks or not: This tape is of such poor quality that many passages are unintelligible. And those that are intelligible have often been taken out of context, so that you can't use that as evidence. The American translators who listened to the tape and transcribed it obviously added things that they wanted to hear in many places. Things that can't be heard - never mind how often you listen to it."
Monitor-TV Germany 12/20/2001

*An analyst will conclude that the tape was actually made earlier as a part of a US-run sting operation.

According to analyst Maher Osseiran, a home video in which Osama bin Laden admits foreknowledge of 9/11 is made around this date (September 26, 2001), not on a later date (mid-November) suggested by US officials.
Counterpunch, The Observer

*Some commentators will question whether the person in the video is actually bin Laden.

Following the release of a home video in which Osama bin Laden apparently confesses to involvement in 9/11 (see Mid-November 2001), some commentators question its authenticity, as a number of strange facts about the video soon emerge.
Guardian, The Capital Times

In the following image, the person on the left is the alleged bin Laden from the tape mentioned above. The person on the right is a confirmed image of the real bin Laden:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/fb657d5bdb02.jpg[/atsimg]

As you can see, their faces don't match. Their noses aren't even close to being the same.

So, out of all the times he has denied his involvement, there is only one video of him claiming involvement and that video is in doubt for many reasons described above. Further, that video above was obtained by U.S. intelligence officers. If the factions within the U.S. government had a hand in planning and carrying out 9/11, then they surely would fabricate evidence like the video above that screams "fabrication".

Also remember, in "Operation Northwoods", evidence was also to be fabricated.
