As Iran gets closer to fulfilling its nuclear ambitions, Republican lawmakers are pushing the Obama administration to stop whistling past the graveyard and get tough with the Islamic Republic.

Senator John McCain says the United States has been backing away from a brewing fight with Iran, while that country moves ever closer to having nuclear weapons. McCain opened a Senate hearing Wednesday by saying that Iran will get the bomb unless the United States acts more boldly. Speaking figuratively, the Arizona Republican says the U.S. keeps pointing a loaded gun at Iran but failing to "pull the trigger."

Man, goes down in the polls a little bit and.... Well, unfortunately he is correct BUT it is getting a little late I am afraid. it is just a matter of time before the bullets start to fly (or bombs).

Sounds like the War Drum is getting broken up and ready to go-again. I think the POTUS missed his best chance to take on the Iranian gov't-when the people were uprising last year. I think it is too late now for the citizens of Iran-too. they are doomed wheather we go in or not.

The majority of people were protesting against the "results" of the presidential elections, sure some wanted a complete change in government and rid of the ayatollah but it's silly to say all Iranians want to overthrow the Iranian government when there are 70 million of them. All i can say is that any military action against Iran would unify the Iranian people against that foreign invader. Your living in la la land if you think they are going to be rolling out the red carpet for you

It's interesting that McCain, who is not president, by the way, is so eager to pound Iran. I wonder how enormous his personal pile of sheckels is.

McCain is a moron, plain and simple. There isn't really much else to say.
Yep yep, second line.

What the hell is the problem with EARTH? How hard is it to sneak in, place a large E.M.P. DEVICE IN CENTRAL LOCATION OF WAR area AND LET IT OFF??????? Then no nukes will launch nor will any other potential threats as well as leaving many alive who may be innocently killed with non precision weapons like NASTY NUKES. UM JUST SAYEN THEN SNEAK OUT AND DONT SAY WHO DID IT LOL.......

More neo-con military industrial complex warmongering ...

Scary part is, if we don't do it I wonder what "terrorist" attack will conveniently fall upon our heads to justify it.

And so it goes ...

This just goes to show that if McCain had been elected, America would already have added Iran to their growing list of wars. I'm not saying it won't happen under Obama but at least he's taking his time. In my opinion America doesn't need another war to save the world. Stop being the worlds protector and see if any other countries give you a real reason to invade. Screw the Bush doctrine. But if McCain had been elected he could have sent Sarah to Iran to work out a deal. Eh, nevermind she probably would have went to Iraq thinking she was in Iran.

I fervently believe John McCain isnt human by the comments he just made, he can only think of wars rather then solving issues, i am not surprised by his statement.

Remember this McCain we are talking about he is the one who pushed for us troops soilders to be on the ground and to take over serbia during the 1999 conflict.

I dont know why they call him a war hero, but they should call him a war monster.

Wow what a fantastic idea!

The country is dead broke, the people are at each others throats, the economy is in shambles, unemployment is pushing 20%, we have already been mired in a pointless series of middle eastern conflicts for the better part of a decade now costing trillions of dollars and producing absolutely nothing positive.....so what is best possible thing we can do now according to our geriatric war hero Mccain?

Let's declare war on Iran!!

They have a large military who are willing to fight so this means added trillions in spending and thousands more American lives pissed away, not to mention a very distict possibilty that it will trigger WWIII AND the possibility that Iran is already a nuclear threat.

Out of all the issues this country is facing and all of the horrid problems that need to be properly addressed, THIS is the best plan of action?

I just cant understand how these people could have ever been elected to run anything.

Seems to me attacking Iran would pretty much be the final nail in the coffin for this country. Maybe that is the whole idea?

I'm surprised that Joe Lieberman isn't right behind McCain saying "Yeah!" He's usually the one at the forefront to bomb any Islamic nation that doesn't put up with Israeli rhetoric.

Yea, what's going on with old Leib. He hasn't been in the news lately. He usually finds something to disagree with.

a very succinct and too the point analysis and I agree with your sentiments. War rarely solves anything. It simply wears out the conflict for a while and allows the anger and tensions that justified the conflict in the first place, to fester under the new wave of anger and lust for revenge in the fallout of the conflict.

A recipe for more war and death down the road because our species can't use dialogue and a cool, rational head. No, overly-proud, ego-stroking maniacs who can't handle a comprimise decide to send other peoples children to fight for their cause while taking money out of the families pockets to pay for the whole thing.

It's such a stupid idea, I won't be surprised if this war comes to pass.

Cheers

Im British but when people like mcain say these things like this, It scares the *&^% out of me. I am in no doubt that if America decied to pull this trigger it would start a chain reaction that will lead to full scale nuclear war.

But im sure the politician will have their war.

Peace.........but don't forget, Duck and cover/

Now that is a good statement, And as history has taught us so many times you go in to a divided country they will unite and become more powerfull than you can possibly imagine (yes it's a star wars quote sue me
) and while some of the vast population of iran want amidinajahd out it is impossible to know what 100% of the people are thinking 100% of the time.
