So what do white trailer trash communities, full of drugs, violence, broken families etc. owe their situation too?

The votes they cast for the Republican Party?

Alchemist, thanks for pointing out this distortion in American politics.

It might be worth your while to look up the name Wayne Perryman, a black author that basically makes the same point you are making here.

And here are a few more points that justifies what the OP is accurately pointing out.

* For over 150 years, blacks were victims of terrorist attacks by the Democrats and their Klan supporters, including lynching, beating, rapes and mutilations

* On the issue of slavery, the Democrats literally gave their lives to expand it; the Republicans gave their lives to ban it.

* Many believed the Democrats had a change of heart and fell in love with blacks. To the contrary, history reveals the democrats didn't fall in love with black folks, they fell in love with the black vote knowing this would be their ticket into the White House.

* By 2003, the Democratic Party had elected white women and white men as U.S. Senators (for their party), but never a black man. The Republican had elected three.

Historically, Democrats More Racist Than Republicans

I never understood why blacks, a huge group of church going, God fearing folks, would hold the same political idealogies of those that seem to want to promote a decadent society

My dad says that we're all born liberal Democrats and mature into conservative Republicans, usually around middle-aged. Sadly, much like maturity, many of us never grow up to be Republicans. With age comes responsibility, and many are not comfortable with responsibility.

Maturity, in the military, comes much faster than in civilian life. The military makes men and women, out of boys and girls. It turns adolescents into adults. It also makes Republicans out of Democrats. My husband was one, immature and Democrat. He grew emotionally, physically, mentally, and politically. The military isn't for the faint of heart, nor the weak of mind.

One important skill that the military does teach, no matter your MOS, is survival. It teaches you how to survive, ON YOUR OWN. This last part, 'on your own' is key to maturity and conservatism.

Unfortunately, many never learn this and will never make it on their own. Dependency is slavery. Dependency is also Democrat ideology.

I have to say that your reasoning behind this post is absolute opinion, and only yours I might add.

The military does not make you mature quicker than civilian life, maybe for some, but not everybody like you are trying to assert. My dad died when I was 14, and if there is anything that makes you grow up fast, this is it.

And the "growing up" to become conservative is complete bull#. To grow up, you think for yourself, not what some priveleged, sheltered tv/radio blowhard tells you to do. Or even your parents for that matter. Believe me I am night and day from what the rest of family thinks in regards to political "affiliation", so to speak. That is because I grew up to think for myself.

I have my issues with both parties, but to defend the Dems, WTF have Republicans done lately to help this country? This country would still be in the #ter even if Republicans had the majority or a candidate that is President. It doesn't matter because they are all the same and you people pick imaginary sides that end up hitting a dead end. That is why I am an (I) and both parties and the people who vote party lines are are complete idiots.

Aren't you forgetting about all the black, hispanic and other 'minority' democrats that are racist, too?

Oh wait, they can call whites all kinds of names and hate them from here to eternity but only whites are truly "racist". That sound about right?

Aka, idealistic youth turns to cynical zealots.

I dont want someone to put God on my money or teaching my children to praise space ghosts daily while learning we evolved from a magic sky mans super wish.

I dont want Joe the industrial complex owner dumping crap into the canal I fish in, spewing toxic fumes around my town, then bitching about chipping in to help me with the cancer I recieved breathing in their pollution everyday.

I dont want government to take a stand on religious unions and protecting the fundamentals of a religion...if a church wants to marry a man and a toaster, thats the churches business, not the state or countrys.

I see a fetus as replicating matter until a central nervous system is formed and functioning, until that, a mole has as much life in it.

I personally believe we have a right to bear arms, but I personally see someone whom has more than a simple shotgun and handgun to be a paranoid sociopath whom in my humble opinion shouldn't be allowed to own a gun for community safety reasons until they pass a psychological profile
I also see no reason a person needs to own a nuke...go figure.

I see America as a great country, but my eye twitches everytime I hear someone say its the "greatest" country...to me, that person is a braindead robot whom will damage our country due to their narrow egotism verses a realist viewpoint...if we are the greatest, then hell, no room for improvement ever. pfft.

I see the military complex as the most disasterous anti-american establishment...we haven't fought for our "freedom" since 1942...every war since then has been idealistic resource wars not for survival but for domination in areas we have no business trying to dominate...we shrugged off the british empire not to become the new empire.

I see oil as a stagnation in our advancement, our nations addiction fueled by supression of alternative fuels. You want to build infrustructure...stop this nonsense drilling crap and start putting up massive solar panels along the highways all across the country plugged directly into the grid and significantly decrease energy cost and oil consumption.

I find there is no liberal bias in the straight news, I find there is an educational bias...I find education as a liberal tool in the most pure sense....liberating a person's mind from ignorance.

I....am a fiscal conservative...I think anyone whom isn't a fiscal conservative is a bit of a moron...but this simply means stop wasteful programs (like the bloody military complex...a defensive army, no more!) Should we decide to feed the bloody world, stop dropping endless supplys of food and replace it with fertile soil and irrigation schematics...maybe a few packs of seeds.

Meh...I guess we will simply disagree...I am a social liberal, I find most people...even those hardened conservative limbaugh lovers are about the same once they stop the talking points programmed into them...and also most people are fiscal conservatives. Dems love the fact that in the 90s, the dem president not only balanced the budget, but made a actual surplus...they also love to hate Bush for reversing the trend

On paper, in the last 30 years, it has been the dems that reduced the budget, and the reps whom increase it...so tell me, by simple facts and not retoric...which party of the two is closer to being a fiscal conservative...remember, just facts here...not bull

I love Obama's charisma...he is a jedi master of the spoken word...but I think I am enjoying many of Ron Paul's fiscal views...and the fact that he appears pretty liberal socially...I might have to look into this libertarian...they seem to have opted out of social stances.

Actually, I agree...there is rampant racism in the black community. I however am white. I am not going to bitch at a black man about his community when my community is in error. I take care of my views and lead by example...I also find that some of the most racist blacks are not racist towards me after a 2 minute conversation because I judge a person based on who they are, not how they look. I will also "go bill cosby on their arse", insulting the so called "heros" of the black community such as ludacris, tupac, etc...people whom are way cool to mimic and end up causing a self induced isolationist attitude.

This affiliation with the Democratic party today all stems from history. Way back when the country was divided on integration in schools and public places. prior to the Civil Rights Act, Blacks were primarily Republicans as was Frederic Douglas.

The leader of the Civil Rights Movement, a southern white, who used the N word amongst friends IMA, was aware that a nation divided by race relations wasn't going to help the future of this country.

His name was Lyndon Baines Johnson. Originating from a poor background himself and becoming a teacher to poor Mexicans in his home state of Texas. Knew that the future of any group of people to transcend the grips of poverty was through education.

During his period as John F. Kennedy’s Vice- President, racism became an increasingly important political issue. Vice- President Johnson knew something had to be done "The Negro fought in the war [World War Two], and….he’s not gonna keep taking the # we’re dishing out. We’re in a race with time. If we don’t act, we’re gonna have blood in the streets."

So the long story short is that Johnson being a southern Democrat as the majority of which were at the time, pushed for the Civil Rights Act which resulted in dividing the nation and many of those not in support of integration, jumped ship and joined the Republican party.

This is why the Democratic party is historically intrinsic to Black Americans as well as to why the stigma of racism is conversely attached to the GOP.

But times have indeed changed.....we need to break away from coke and pepsi politics.

No more so than any other child who at an early age adopts the politics of thier parents.

Yes, as it has already been pointed out, Abraham Lincoln is the father of the Republican party, but these days you will hear Ronald Reagan. The republican party was built on an Anti-Slavery platform.

African Americans supported the Republican party from the time of the Civil War up until the great depression when Rossevelt and his cabinet began to champion civil rights and equality.

While the Roosevelt began the transition for the majority of African Americans to the Democratic Party, the momentum continued with Lyndon B. Johnson and Kennedy etc. fighting for equality and civil rights.

Add to that the social conservative movement taking hold of the GOP and you start to get a feeling of the evolution.

I am a liberal and I certainly would have belonged to the Republican Party of 1864 ... but today civil rights, equality, even fiscal conservatism takes a distant back seat to a culture of intolerance, religious rhetoric, conservative social agendas and general hypocracy.

I am a HUGE fan of the Grand Olde Party of 100 years ago...which when reflected upon makes the current state of the GOP all the more ironically tragic.

"Power concedes nothing without a demand… it never did, and it never will. Find out just what the people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them.…"
— Frederick Douglass, August 4, 1857

The Democratic Party have heaped severe injustice upon the black people. Using deceptive tactics, packaged to appear as if they alone care about the plight of poor blacks, they have only transferred the plantation to Washington DC away from the south. Rather than strive to assure equal access, they have conditioned many blacks to believe they need more than that to succeed. This is REAL racism.
It is good to see that black people, as well as all other races, are waking up to the deception of BOTH political parties. But the Democrats claiming the high ground on empathy for the plight of the poor is not backed up by history.

I think the Democratic party seeks out all minority groups such as gays, blacks, women liberation movement, libersls, atheists, poor people, and other minorities etc. Because they always promise minority groups that they will fight for their equality and tell them that they are oppressed by the majority white male republican and that they will bring more welfare and social services and that rich white republicans want to take away their welfare and social services etc.

Its all garbage...I was actually visiting a very large super mega monster church sitting in the middle of a very poor black neighborhood in Pittsburgh and heard with my own two ears the preacher say that no black person has any business being a republican. And then he went on and on about why. It almost sounded like he was paid by someone to preach about that.

I am a bi-racial person (black/white) that grew up in a republican family in that neighborhood and yes I can vouch for the OP most blacks are brainwashed into being democratic. Most don't even know why they are democrats or even what the difference is between left and right wing for that matter. That whole situation is redicoulously embarrassing.

After 5 years in the Marine Corps and Iraq war and becoming politically aware I have come to my personal conclusion of the whole entire two party system being corrupt, divisive and just plain garbage. One of the above replies hit the nail on the head. Divide and conquer us all...Political party supporters are so busy fighting amongst themselves and blaming eachother for everything that is wrong in the world they never even notice that EVERYONE is getting butt raped by the elite party at the top. Political party lines divide up the rest of us not all ready divided by religeon or race or social class.

What ever are we to do about fixing this? People are so emotionally attached to their political parties it seems this mess can never be undone...

Republican and democrat. It's irrelevant. Does anyone really think that modern republicans are anything close to what the original values of the republican party were? Is there a Kennedy democrat left? No. Democrats are socialists and republicans are liberal democrats. I'm a conservative. I am not able to identify with the ideology of either party. I thought Jimmy Carter was awful. Obama is even more liberal. Reagan is rolling over in his grave at the thought of W claiming to be a republican.

All that we're doing now is creating a welfare class voting block capable of pushing any candidate into office. And that's scary, almost every taxpayer in America would have to vote to counter the 40% of americans who dont pay taxes. They will soon be up to 50%.

I apologize that kina came out like an unintelligible rant.

This is the real problem with the partys

Dems = Create perpetual need for governmental help by their continous courting of the little guy of society...the effort to equal things half the time seperates more than equals...Was civil rights the right thing to do? yes, Was affirimative action the right thing to do? perhaps initially, but when something becomes outdated due to society maturing, then remove it...else it stops acting as a bridge and starts acting like a wedge.

Reps = Represent success...but the problem is, they represent not succeeding, but comfirmed high end success...aka, corporatism. The continous siding with the largest business entities, fueling their ability to become even a larger entity through breaks and loopholes to ensure a near monopoly creates wealth disparity

There is no party that truely represents a colorless middle class..neither side...one goes for the top, one goes for the bottom.

How would you truely try to represent the middle class? I have my suspicions, but its a naughty word...so shhhhh.

As a retired enlisted black man I also believe the liberal left has ruined an entire generation of American families especially blacks. We have manifested from personal responsibilty capitialists into government dependents. We have taught our children entitlement, debting and unreal expectations. Our socialistic government has replaced parents with teachers and social workers.

I don't understand. so you're basically saying blacks can be republicans too because that party isn't racist?

I'm going to go ahead and say I disagree (that the party isn't racist). Why? Because every black republican I have seen was so incredibly white-washed, they almost seemed like they didn't want to be black but were just dealing with it ("It won't come off in the shower!"). I've seen this happen many other races too that are involved with the right wing in some way.

I always felt the right picked "safe" ethnic people because their audience is mostly white.
