Not bugging out. Can't. I'd help others though if it came down to it of course.
Anyway, I was gone tending to my animals. It's coming on dawn now and dogs in the area started howling and gave me the creeps a bit - they bark a lot here but not howling. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not.

Etna is calming down on the noise' factor, but not the lava output. Ash is blowing in the other direction. Back to the point? My rabbits have been kicking their cages - I'm blaming it on the dogs howling. And no I'm not trying to be melodramatic. These are just the facts and what's going on here.

I don't feel like this is a threat - at least at the moment. I huge inconvenience sure - all the ash will play havoc on my crops and make driving dangerous for others - but for now? Everything is fine.

Thanks all for the well wishes.

peace

Echo that. Strange really but I start to worry if you don't post for a few minutes.

Naw, don't worry. In fact she's starting to settle down a bit - at least all the noise that is.

But these dogs howling? That's so unwelcome at the moment. Why? Because who's to say it's a coincidence or not?

Anyway, Etna is calming down - noticeable chance in just the last few minutes. Wow - talk about a drama queen!

I've got to go take care of the rest of the animals as soon as I'm off here but I'll be back as needed to keep the 'hot' updates flowing your way. No pun intended. Ok, well, a little one.

peace

I think that many of us who have been watching silently feel exactly the same way. You guys just let us know when you've given up the watch and are going to try to get some shut eye (if possible).

Activity has finally dropped off, in response to the rapid drop-off in tremor signals. However lava is continuing to be emitted from our newly formed summit cone.

Slightly clearer view of the lava flow headed towards Milo right now (pop 1,070) the wind vectors are carrying the gaseous debris in the same field of view so not the best view of it, but as close as were going to get in determining size/speed and direction.

Well well well what little Drama Queen Etna ended up being.
I'm looking at her this morning and she's looking back as if to say 'Who, me?'

The 'V' notch has always been there, just not nearly so pronounced. What hasn't been there is a lava flow to the east - I'll try to get more info on it but at the moment I'm back out to cleaning up all the sharp sand and stone she threw my way during her temper tantrum.

It was beautiful though.

Thank again all!

Until next time!

Etna update from INGV-Catania.
A new paroxysm at the Southeast Crater of Etna

On the evening of 18 July 2011, Strombolian activity increased at the crater located on the east flank of the Southeast Crater cone, and culminated in a new paroxysmal eruptive episode between 0000 and 0230 GMT (= local time -2) on 19 July. As the previous five paroxysms, this episode produced a lava flow that spilled down the steep western slope of the Valle del Bove, following the same path as the lavas emitted during the preceding eruptive episodes, and stagnating at the base of the slope near Monte Centenari. Lava fountains rose up to 200-250 m high, producing heavy fallout of fluid spatter, resulting in the formation of several rheomorphic lava flows, the largest of which descended the south flank of the cone surrounding the crater, and reached its base. A dense plume of gas and ash was blown eastward by the wind.

This has been the sixth paroxysmal episode from the same crater since the beginning of this year (the previous episodes had occurred on 12-13 January, 18 February, 10 Aprio, 12 May, and 9 July); the interval between the latest two has been only 9.5 days, much shorter than the intervals between the preceding events (4-8 weeks). During the day of 18 July, activity within the Bocca Nuova had diminished notably, after one week of intense Strombolian activity and the emission of a small intracrater lava flow.
