hi everyone i have been wanting to write this thread for a while but not had the time because things have been really hectic lately. but any ways hear goes i really want to share some experiences with u that i had as a child growing up.

i was born in york 1987 and i grew up living on an estate called chepelfields. its the place i spent all my teenge life living in the house that im about to talk about. it all started when i was really young i must of only been about 4 or 5 and it was boxing day. me, my brother, and older sister had taken our presants up stairs out of the living room so that none of them could be mixed up or broken.

it was about eleven oclock because i remember my dad watching match of the day on tv my mum and sister was fast asleep on the doube sofa.and i was listening to my dad and brother chatting away about football when all of a sudden there was this huge BANG, BANG, BANG, i remember my brother looking at my dad and asking what was that?

my dad said i haven't a clue but i could tell by the look of his face something was not right. we all went silent for a little bit and my dad turned the tv right down. as he turned it down we could hear my sisters verry expensive pot doll that she had been given for x mas. (if u wound the back of it up it would play a little song)

i was sensing that my dad was freaked out so i tried to wake my mum up but my dad told me to just leave them asleep. he went out in to the hallway and on the bottom step was my sisters pot doll fully wound up playing the silly little song.the biggest mystery about this is my sisters room is round a few corners so for it to land on the bottom step sat up straight playing a song would be impossable.

after this happened things started happening alot more. another time was when we had all gone on a family holl for 2 weeks and when we came back every famly photo in the house was turned facing away so u could only see the back of the frames.

then one day a very awfull smell appeard on the top of the stairs.and becuse we was all kids at the time me, my brother, and sister took the blaim my mother thought that one of us might have taken food up the stairs and spilt it without telling her.

we all explaned that none of us had done that. so my dad spent alot of money getting a rat catcher out thinking that maybe a rat had died under the floor boards.but when he turned up the man explained that it was deff not a rat because there was no nawl marks on any pipes or wood also there was no sighn of droppings. everyone was completly baffled where it was coming from but as quick as it came it dissapeard.

my dad is a long distance lorry driver so he was allways working long hours and getting in at early hours of the morning. he told me that he had come back from work and wanted to put the kettle on. as he went over to the fridge and bent down for the milk he heard a woman in his ear whisper his name. he said that all the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. and he was unable to stand back up from the fridge for a good ten min.

other times would be when my sister had her little boy playing in the front living room while she was washing the potts. there was only him and her in the house at the time. she said all of a sudden he started to scream but then went really silent so she rushed in to see if he had hurt himself but as she got to the living room door she heard a mans voice humming a childrens lulaby to him she froze on the spot and could not go in to the room i have many more tales from this house that i would like to share. but not enough time right now. or enough characters ha

what i can say is that since we moved out a few years ago the house has been up for sale 4 times. and it would be interesting to find out exactly why these people decided to re sell .... i wonder ??

Firstly I have to say interesting story you have here if true, definitely something that should be investigated further if possible.

Bang and the wound up doll: Ok so I’m afraid I really do have to ask though in regards to the banging noise and the doll facing upwards, could it be possible (and please do be honest) that another family member could have made the bang and also got the doll and sat it up right after winging it up so it was playing??

I only ask only because you yourself say that there were 2 other family members asleep upstairs which you also say was the place where the doll was situated at the time of all this.

Ok so I’m not trying to say you’re lying or anything like that more along the line of maybe a family member was simply playing tricks on you for whatever reason or maybe they were sleep walking.

There are so many possibilities that one should look for first before claiming it to be a ghostly encounter which is IMO the only way to actually find a true ghost encounter.

All the photos are facing down: That is very peculiar in itself so I again have to ask when you was on holidays did you give a house key to any family member or anything like that, as that is something a lot of families do when leaving for holiday.

I ask as they could clearly be the culprits for doing it for whatever reason instead of a ghostly entity.

Also how long ago was it that this odd smell appeared since you came back from holiday?

Name calling: I’ve had my own completely unexplainable experience when it comes to someone calling your name so I know it is extremely important to recognize that what is sometimes heard as ones name may not actually be that at all.

In all honesty it can sound just like your name but it could also be an effect from outside such as people shouting, the wind etc.

So for example were the windows open and could you hear the wind clearly from outside when this happened?

Could it have even been a family member again playing tricks? Maybe without realizing?

Also I really would urge you to investigate further in that previous house (especially since you claim that it has been up for sale 4 more times) but is there any way you can prove which house it is exactly, Maybe find it on the internet somewhere.

So many different possibilities for so many different areas of so called paranormal experiences, although this is very interesting to me although if you could provide proof for any of this then it will help you a lot as of right now I’m very sceptical.

Very interesting story, and I had many similar experiences living in a very old cottage, where my daughter and I lived for 4 years. Inexplicable banging noises, that seemed to be coming from the room we were in, witnessed by other people, and where all people who were in the house were in the same room. The house was in a rural location as well, so not prone to much outside noise disturbance. But there were many incidents when we lived in that house (in fact I posted one experience on another thread relating to mirrors) and since we left in early 2006, the house has been up for rent 4 times, in fact I noticed that it's back on the agents website again yesterday, so people don't stay for very long!

thanks for ur interest and the two people who was sleeping was on the sofa i think i put that in my thread so all house members was in the same room when it happened basically and no we only had one set of house keys when on holl there the ones my mum took with us we did actually have the house blessed with holy water on more then one occasion

Ah I see, I naturally assume that when they were asleep, they were upstairs in bed so thanks for clarifying.

So I can't really think of an answer for what it could be if there was no one up stairs and a doll (that is new to the house) has move from one location to a completely different one and then sat up right and turned on.

Very interesting story indeed and I really would suggest going back if possible or even recommending it to a local paranormal team.

Also could you provide any proof of what you are saying?

Also thanks for sharing this story.

The best thing you should do IMO is contact a local paranormal team and i'm sure they'll be more than happy to participate if you give them a good reason to, so in other words let them know why you want to investigate.

And If they are anything like my local team they will be more than happy to help you.

Also i'll have a quick search for some local teams in the surrounding areas for you as well and let you know if i find anything either through a post or U2U.

Here is a list of teams from around the same area that may be helpful.

List of teams in and around the york area

That may be helpful.

Also if possible then why not try and find the house on the internet and you never know you may find something interesting.

Hey there skillz1,

Very interesting account there ... particularly as there seems to have been both a male and female entity at work here ... I wonder if they were a couple during their lifetimes ... or even if they were aware of each other ?

Do you know anything about the history of the house ... eg; how old was it ... what was there before the house etc ?

I live not too far from York myself ... whereabouts is the area you mention relative to the city ?

My gran's house was haunted and since she died the house has been resold quite a few times too ... like you I've always wondered if it was due to the paranormal activity continuing there

Anyhoo great account and I look forward to reading more when you get time.

I seem to remember that the there was the church exorcist that was quite active in that area. He was subject to a TV programme a few years ago. Perjaps if you could track him down and have a 5 minute chat you could find out what that area was like.

I was raised in Woodthorpe, so a mere stone's throw from you. The name Chapelfields is derived from the fields that gave tythe to the 'Chapel', it was not a burial ground, and the estate was built in the early 60s, maybe the late fifties. If you check at the Central Library, in the Local History section (once they have finished the re-furb!), you will find local maps that show that that area was once open farmland. Those fields were owned by the Diocese of York and the revenue went to the Church. However, as you know, stick a spade in any part of this City and you are likely as not to come across some human remains, so it is perfectly possible that people are buried somewhere there. It is also as likely that the ghost or entity could be attached to a more recent death or event. If you check with the Council they may be willing or able to give you a list of previous occupants of the house, or if you search the archive of the York Evening Press for death notices, that may shed some light on the matter.

Best of luck!

Oh dear, please tell me you're not referring to one Rev. Graham Taylor ... policeman / turned vicar / tuned exorcist / turned author ?

If so, I would strongly advice the OP that there is no such thing as a 5min chat with the good reverend !

He used to live in the same village as me (some years ago) shortly after becoming a vicar. He was told (apparently) that I was in the process of writing a book about my personal pastlife memories ... and the substantiating evidence that I'd discovered during my research to back up the reality of those memories.

He came to my cottage and very nicely asked if he might read the manuscript for his own research ... as he was 'giving a lecture at York University about non-Christian/pre-Christian beliefs in modern times'.

I told him he could read my manuscript ... couple days later he returns ... with read manuscript and talks 'at' me for over an hour about how he would like to save my soul as the things I wrote about were the work of the devil (I $h!+ you not). I suggested we would have to agree to disagree on that subject and asked him to leave as I was busy.

I didn't give it much more thought until I saw him on TV a few years later promoting his new book ... a novel about witches and the paranormal ... in short a 'poor mans Harry Potter' adventure aimed at children and adults alike.

So Tiger ... if this is the same guy you refer to I have to advise the OP that he is nought but a self-serving hypocrite ... and should be avoided at all costs ... because he 'WILL' try to save your soul from damnation for uttering the very word 'paranormal' ... even though it is now a subject that has made him a large amount of money.

If it's not him ... then 'as you were'
my rant is over

No Not Grahm Taylor. Shadowmancer wasn't bad but nothing like philip Pullman

No this was the Anglican Exorcist. If you were to ask him if he had many actions in your old estate you might have got an interesting repsonse.

Ah ha ! I see you know of him.

And apparently share the same opinion.
