Although my interest in UFOs aliens etc isn't huge I more often than not take an interest in new threads containing photos or videos etc.

Sometimes the posters can not realize a particular video clip or photograph has been discussed before on ATS and possibly be debunked and such.

I do appreciate that the OP maybe directed to a previous thread where the clip or pic was discussed but it seems a bit of a process to get to that point.

Is it possible to have some sort of listing for pictures and videos so that posters can check whether the image they wish to discuss has been posted before ?

I appreciate that regular contributors to these type of threads are pretty up on a photo or video they've discussed and can recognize one instantly but anyone not so in the know has kind of do a rerun .

Hope my language has expressed where I'm coming from here and have posted in the correct place, any thoughts ?

Might be a good idea to simply click on search which is located at the top of the page, then type in UFO or aliens or whatever it is your specifically looking for in the thread titles section and also make sure you check it for the Hoax forum, that way you should get a list of confirmed Hoaxes that have been posted on ATS so far.

Actually I created such a thread last year but it gets lost in the mass of constant new ones. the search feature is always handy for finding such list.
Here is a link to mine.

The search results require reading through them , needless to say I don't want to read through threads I just want to know if a specific photo/vid has been discussed before.

If I for example have come across a photo that I wish to discuss the search tool is only of use with words so I can't actually find out if it's been discussed without starting a thread about it.

Searching for "UFO above airfield" for example could possibly yield me 100 thread results to wade through, some of them may not actually contain a photo let alone the one I happen to have.

Perhaps what I'm asking for is some magic area for photo comparison that contains all photos uploaded into threads to save starting a thread to find out if a photo has already been discussed.

Like I said I'm not a huge UFO buff so when a new thread is started with a photo I could end up reading through quite a few posts before finding out that I seen the same photoshopped picture 3 months ago. If the poster had been able to compare pictures somehow it would have saved him posting.

Hey, perhaps I'm a bit slow on the uptake here and am missing something, i just think things could be made simpler that's all, if I'm wrong then I'm wrong and we'll leave it at that.

Thanks , that's the sort of idea I had in mind or perhaps an engine that could give a result of closest match to an uploaded photo on ATS prior to the new one being uploaded.

[Perhaps I'm really out of my depth here and should leave it alone]

Thats fair enough.

There is easier ways like for example NephraTari's post (which is very helpful) but it was just an idea to help you along.

That's a good thread, thanks for pointing it out as I never saw it: it was created before I joined!

What do you think about the idea of having it indexed in the thread directory so we don't lose track of it?

I'm thinking maybe it should be added to this thread:

The ATS UFO/Alien Chronological Thread Directory

Maybe immediately before the reference to the HOAX thread like this:

Some Known Relevant Top Hoaxes
CGI UFOs | Some of the best ones
[HOAX] Haiti UFO Video - YouTube - [HOAX]
[HOAX] Isaac CARET - Drones [HOAX]
[HOAX] CGI UFO captured on film! [HOAX]
Passenger on jet films UFO outside window
[HOAX]Video: Private Photo Album From Nasa Staff 1998[HOAX]
[HOAX] FBI building Attacked by UFO [HOAX]
[HOAX]clear video of 3 flying objects in Domican Republic[HOAX]

Compilation list of CGI, known hoaxes and disproved(videos and photos)
•See the HOAX thread for more details…

**There are many more but many are not completely relevant to the UFO/Alien forum so thus they were omitted. Also keep in mind it is likely many ‘open’ cases right now will soon be added to this category.**

And/or some of the major hoaxes could be added to the list there to fill that out a bit. Note it says: "Also keep in mind it is likely many ‘open’ cases right now will soon be added to this category." and it seems like some are overdue to be added, I don't see Santilli's Alien Autopsy video from your thread on there for example, that seems like a major hoax.

But even if we do that (Add to the list of hoaxes in that index), your thread should still be listed because it also includes things that aren't hoaxes, like misidentifications, of solar balloons for example. That's not really a hoax, but it's good information. I agree it's a shame for a good thread like that to get lost in the shuffle, but getting it indexed in the directory might salvage it from obscurity!

What do you think?

If you like the idea we could contact a mod to discuss if it might be added. I think it would be a good addition to the index.
