Hey just like you, but from within bejing!

Im not there but a computer there had Urls typed in and saw what happened.

The results were monitored with some simple Browser add onns, which gave the data you see.

And I am not tech savvy I did not hack anyone, well if I did I wouldnt say anyhow.

Starsky and Hutch has all the information needed by the Chinese populace to create a "perfect" and Free society, with a great imporvement in cultural fashion, so you may be right!

Seriously
It does seem as you say very OTT approach they take. However that is why I dont understand why ATS is not accessable, but Infowars, rense, Infoclearing house, etc etc conspiracy archive, Icke, cannot be accessed.

However as said and linked they seem to change the allowed and not allowed daily almost to confuse the population, and also it does seem from when I have done something similair before, from city or region to region.

btw intrigued by three things

1. Is Monkey Magic still on TV across there?
and is it popular or just cult?

2. WTF is your avatar, what on earth is all that about? is that an actual musical instrument?

3. Are you really in Bejing, as I explained the weather and pollution thing, and if you are are you American/British or studied here?

Kind Regards,

Elf

1. "Monkey Magic"? Do you mean "The Monkey King"??? That golden-furred rascal with the magic "staff"?

Oh, The Monkey King is still a staple on any of the hundreds of TV channels these cats over here have. Actually, it's not bad viewing; lots of cool ancient legends and a monkey that can do damn near anything. It sure beats the endless river of propaganda crap-TV shows that could go under the general tilte "war mini-series".

2. Of course, the avatar must remain classified.

3. Yes, I am really in Beijing. The air today is super fresh. But I am sure, somewhere in China, the air right now is the pollution nightmare you described.

My carefree swagger can mean only one thing: I'm Canadian.

It was translated as Monkey Magic in the UK.

And indeed is one of the very best TV shows ever made. Oh how when younger I plucked my single prepubescant hair from my chest hoping to jump on my own cloud

I was testing you with the weather lol.

Avatar must be early medical lung function or something, though I am some people would try and play it anyhow!

Just for you as you wont see it - you tube of the best Monkey trick and cloud fight ever:

I am sure he was related in some very distant way, as the hair and punky funky ways they both are:

Seriously, I can't describe China. No one can. It's off the hook. Although, they really jumped the shark when they banned Facebook.

Facebook? Really, China? That was a big threat to you guys? (Sure, I guess the political rebels were using Facebook. But, still.)

You know, Hong Kong is wide open. They've got Youtube, Facebook; and, want to leaf through a Playboy magazine while eating your steamed chicken's feet? In Hong Kong that's A.O.K.

Here's the thing. China's got about 1.3 billion people. And The China Masters have to keep about 1 billion 299 million people in a constant state of mild mental-retardation or the party's over.

Hence, the censorship and general media manipulation is just plain whacky.

Here's a quirky example:

Remember that little picture Cameron slapped together recently? What was it called? Oh, that's right, Avatar. I heard that was a mild success.

Well, of course Avatar was playing big over here. Very big. Then, at the same time Avatar was playing, a State-Produced movie, Confucious, arrived on the scene.

But who in the hell would want to see yet another movie about Confucious when Avatar is playing around the corner?

So, what did The Masters do? You guessed it. Immediately ordered Avatar pulled from most theatres.

Ho ho ho. Solid marketing strategy.

And, why didn't we, over here in China, get to see Batman - The Dark Knight???

Well, lets see. Did Batman bitchslap some Chinese businessman and then proceed to drag said Chinese businessman out of his Hong Kong office building through the 44th floor window?

We can't have that.

Back to a serious note: The China Masters are very careful about what they let the masses see.

And we've still got ATS.

Unless I'm ruining it for everyone right now....

Nah, not a chance, those making these kinds of decisions won't understand your sarcasm and most likely not even what this thread is talking about (IF they do monitor ATS, not likely

I laughed much too, but I dont understand it, as I said ive outed at least 2-3 Chinese Bloggers on here with regard to the place in the himalayas with many monks..... AlexJones....Flickr never mention that country or its leader.

I dont want those search terms to come up now for ATS but it is a bit baffling.

And you know something, a very very wise old man, someone who I never knew to be wrong, said to me once when I made a remark to someone and was laughing saying "It's only a Joke"

There is no such thing as a joke, its just nervously telling the truth, thats why we laugh to diffuse the internal tension

long time ATS lurker. first time poster

Had to break my posting virginity after reading this. If I'm reading this correctly, the OP seems to think that anyone claiming to be able to access any Alex Jones site or BBC sites is what?.....a paid blogger (yes, i know, they do exist in).

Well I'm from UK and have lived in China for nearly 6 years. In all that time i have had no problem accessing BBC or Alex jones. I use proxies for accessing facebook and youtube but i certainly don't use it for prison planet or infowars as proxies slow down my already pretty poor 2M connection.

OK, not a groundbreaking first post huh? But there is a lot of nonsense and twisted opinion spoken online about China. Hey, i live here and i know full well that there is a lot wrong with the place, but what you say in the original post is just not true. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say it was a mistake rather than a lie.

you say you have outed bloggers on this site? you mean paid, government bloggers?
I will greatly appreciate it if you can link me any threads where this occurred. As i say, i am certain they do exist and if you have outed some i would be very interested in reading about it.

Well I wont do that, as the OP resolution shows on page 1 Today infowars is unnobtainable in China.

That is the topic of thread T&C and all that, but anyhow I am sure I was just muddled when posting that, maybe someone from 5 yrs ago was, dont remember the post or name though, as we know it is not important, just usual ATS chatting, means nothing, just people talking about the world and UFO's mainly.

ATS is obtainable.

I found that strange at first, but its nothing having looked into it, it means nothing.

This is not a thread to wave my cyber style wand around and say its bigger than anyone elses.

Again as said on first page BBC.co.uk was unnobtainable in Bejing today but BBC.com was not.

I have linked much source info to look through, and I dont appreciate you saying I am Lying or infering it, I have tabled proof, sources, dns resolutions whilst we only have your personal attack on its veracity, in return.

But its ok.

I am glad you posted though, it is nice when a lurker comes in, we all had to make our first post.

It should be obvious from the nature of my post I have not mentioned anything at all about the chinese internal politics, leadership or culture that is negative.

All that I provided was information, some from Harvard Law School and other places to, to back up the info I show in my first post.

That is ATS is downloadable in Bejing Infowars was not seconds later.

It is just an interesting topic for the members to talk about.

You seem very passionatte for someone who has only lived in China for 7 years, very loyal, you are obviosuly happy there which is good, the culture is anciant and amazing, and with such a big country much opportunity for all.

What city uk where you born in then, we have atsers from all around the world here.

So youve used an external to China proxy to do you surfing?

I dont know why you bother doing that do you?

There are no proxies in China that are not government owned.

Even if there are illegal ones, the proxy would have to make its jump out of china for its first connection and merry go round, but the "Shield" would stop that as I am sure you know all host names and ISP have to be resolved, and search terms applied to the contents, before the shield/gaurdian allows the actual data to past it.

No ISP no data. All ISP's are resolved. If the proxy is outside of china again I wouldnt bother, again for even more obvious reasons, it would loose its ability to connect to you, as a hostname and ISP would not match.

Thanks though for the info, I could be wrong on the Proxy thing but I find that just a coincidence, I think you are being ripped off having it/paying for it, and I am amazed you could post on here.

Maybe its proxied outside of the Shield, but from that point onwards the shield resolves and checks all data for certain words, hostnames and records ll ISP delivery with content

Which part of China are you from then?

Living in?

What is it like today, the weather?

I saw you guys had some bad weather this winter, spring now, I imagine Spring is amazing in China!

Why dont you relax a little bit more now yes,

you will like this, just relax deeper into your chair, and look down now

:'Spring Has Sprung Haiku Contest

I am sure you will like it just click it now and have a peek school boy antics by Chinese standards, but we try.

You must have some great poems yourself, yes?

Please add one,
Now,
we all would like to see a proper Chinese Haiku on that thread.

So simple just Go to it now and add one for us, thank you so much!

You know how it is best to be relaxed and take some deep breaths before doing poetry and breathing out now letting the stress we all get go, you now can go down to that thread, and I would like to suggest to you that you may create one of the best Poems on there, down here:

well, you say you have posted proof. not being technically minded it doesnt mean that much to me. Maybe there was a problem in beijing when you tested but it doesnt change the fact that neither infowars or BBC.co.uk have been blocked in Shanghai where i am in the last 6 years.

So what would constiture proof? how do i go about showing you that as i am sat here in shanghai i can access both the above sites without VPN or Proxy. i'm quite willing to do this, even on a number of days in a row if you like.

As for your little remarks:

"You seem very passionatte for someone who has only lived in China for 7 years, very loyal, you are obviosuly happy there which is good, the culture is anciant and amazing, and with such a big country much opportunity for all."

they come across as a little snide to be honest. Like you are having trouble believing or comprehending a westerner could live here without somehow becoming subverted to the regieme. 'Loyal'? Not at all, living here can be a real pain sometimes on a day to day basis. But probably not as you are thinking because of censorship etc, but just because of cultural differences.

oh, and i'm from lancashire. A town that lies between Blackpool and Blackburn whose football team was the first in England to win the league and cup double. It has a major railway interchange and lies on the main west coast mainline from London to Glasgow.

this is fun. do you want to test me on UK knowledge as well , you know just to make sure i'm from where i say i am?

About the proxies. Again, im not really technically minded so you lost me a bit there. you say:

"So youve used an external to China proxy to do you surfing?

I dont know why you bother doing that do you?"

yes i have and i'll tell you why i bother. There are many many online proxies that one an use to circumvent the blocks. for western users in china though we are a little shy about advertising them, as eventually they do get blocked. doesnt matter though because more spring up. last year something called hotspot shield was very popular and many people used it to access you tube and facebook. Which should obviously explain why i do it.

maybe you could get a facebook account, then do a search in groups for china. there you will see literally thousands of people in china who are using the blocked site. how are they doing it? Some may have VPN but i would hazard the majority use online proxy.

why are you obsessed with weather? its 14 degrees sunny and cloudy interludes. very pleasant. thanks. Here the weather was not that bad over winter. maybe wetter than usual. China is a vast country however, and yes i believe the north had a bad winter this year, just like the rest of the northern hemisphere, particularly the uk.

re the haiku contest?

hmmm, as i stated, although you have trouble believing, i'm not chinese, i'm from uk. My chinese, even after 6 years is pretty poor, so i'm afraid i cant comply with your following request:

"You must have some great poems yourself, yes?

Please add one,
Now,
we all would like to see a proper Chinese Haiku on that thread.

So simple just Go to it now and add one for us, thank you so much! "

Sorry to dissapoint you.

please dont forget, let me know how to go about pulling the info of my web requests so i can show you how i can access the sites from china. thanks

PS

you linked to two items of evidence...one spreadsheets.google which i can tell you is blocked here.

and then to wikipedia page which loaded up before the GF realized what i was up to and blocked it. Very annoying. Like i say, there are things about living here that suck. But the point still stands. INfowars and BBC are not blocked and very much open the same as ATS

Lancashire nice, been on camping trips up there. Currently just south of midlands here, or there abouts

What has happened is that as you state you cant read all the links in my opening post etc, or the inforamtion so I think that has caused a bit of confusion, I only brought the information, never wrote it!

Hey if my reply worried you as perceived tone or whatever, never meaning to do that, was very tired early hours of morning when posted.

I was surprised by the Proxies and vpn's being used in China, that is good I thought the State had outlawed them. It is good that people can get information there, like you show.

You dont need a Proxy in Shanghai anyhow. infowars is avalable there without one, well today.

But still the same in Bejing no go for that or BBc.Co.UK. No Infowars in bejing.

As said in some of the links and info on page one, which you as said found blocked (I find this interesting from the filtering aspects of the abilities of the "Shield"), it seems that the technology has improved soo much that just information specific articles within webpages are being targetted rather than whole sites.

Well on some of those links it shows a not "Top Down" approach of control of allowed material or not, but an dynamic changing and city/region specific blocks. These seem to change over time much to.

This is why I brought this Thread here as well, to explore why this seems to happen, Is it almost a "Mind Game" by the state, one day accessable , one day not, can get it here in China but noth there, bizarre imho.

Thanks for your posts and inside information as much for us so we can see how this works on the ground over there for the avergae PC/Internet user.

Really this thread is not about "bringing forward" any evidence or counter evidence on this issue. The Shield exists, is a known fact, is well researched, written about by both those in the industry, the Chinese state themselves and also acedemics.

It was just to allow people to know how 1/3 of the world is controlled with the information it can access, and communicate themselves. In the west like in Europe and Australia moves are afoot to create similair if not soo wide reaching systems to control the information we can post and access, so I thought it would be good for us to realise how this works now in reality.

Oh and of course to out the Three Amigos(site owners) as working for the CIA, Mossad, M15 and the Chinese government to
lol.

Tell us what is the penetration of PC's and internet access like in Shanghai? do most people have computers and internet, or is it mainly through WebCafes etc?

Hey also have they blocked "Twitter" in shanghai?
Do the chinese Tweet?

I would never join Facebook as it has dubious data privacy/sharing and management structures, set up funding, however it is good for those who do that people seem to be able to still join as you say. I would nervous if doing that myself if chinese as the Photo's and links to friends, I am sure it may come back to bite those who do that, but more power to them.

MischeviousElf,
hah, a Briton in Shanghai, seems like when someone claim he is a Briton living in China will not be immediately accused of being a paid Blogger ;-) And when refusing to answer this Briton for a related request about showing proof to backup one of your claims about paid blogger, at the same time the next conversations are all off topic stuff. whatever....

On topic,

Anyhow, I always say that the Western MSM and government had successfully given the Westerners the wrong impression that China is centralized controlled. It will surprise to many outsiders how much power is actually decentralized to provincial and regional levels by the CCP.

This could be the same case for the Internet Censorship policies. And IF your software is indeed accurate it might confirm this hypothesis. So assume your software is actual proof that throughout China the blocked lists are different. Then would you mind to check the following cities too for BB.co.uk, Infowars and ATS to conduct a little test:

In this methodology, you would need to test it within a short time span.

Beijing
Tianjin (Wonder if the same results as Beijing, because geographical it is nearby)
Langfang (Smaller city nearby Beijing)
Shanghai
Suzhou (In same province as Shanghai)
Shenzhen (Where I stay during weekdays)
Guangzhou (In same province as Shenzhen)
Xiamen (I visitted recently, and have friends so I can verify the result)
Chengdu (I visitted recently, and have friends so I can verify the result)
Lahsa (Yup, could be interesting to check what is un/blocked in Tibet)
Urumuqi (they just opened up internet in Xinjiang again)
