Campaigners have urged the government to stop tobacco companies adding chocolate and other similar ingredients to cigarettes.

British American Tobacco has been carrying out tests on flavoured cigarettes.

news.bbc.co.uk...

My opinion is that if new flavoured cigarettes are to go on sale they will get more young people smoking and make the image of smoking more cool and attractive to younger people. I know people have the right to decide if they want to smoke, but smoking can be 'forced' upon young people through peer pressure and other ways. People should have the right not to smoke if they so choose.

What do you think of this?

there are alot of flavored tobacco companies, mostly imported products, although it might seem that they're trying to cater to the youth, it's a market and people have been smoking flavored tobacco for ages. now, if they're adding extra chemicals in order to get the smoker addicted quicker, then that would be a problem.

I think that if people choose to smoke they will whether or not the tobacco is flavored. More kids aren't just going to start smoking because the tobacco tastes differently. I think that these cigarettes would appeal quite a bit to people smoking already. I'm a smoker and I'd we willing to try these. I mean hey, if you're already a smoker then why not try new sorts of cigarettes.

They are adding extra chemicals to get you addicted quicker. What do you think nicotine is? They add nicotine to cigarettes to get you addicted.

I've recently quit about a month or more ago and I'll tell you that I'm happy as hell. I already feel 10 times better and I havn't got that rotten ass taste in my mouth any longer. Screw those cigs....I'm a quitter for life.

Maybe we should add nicotine to broccoli! Then we'd all be adicted to something good for us. = )

They'd have to trick us into eating it first

Tomacco!

Further more, here in the states, I've been seeing flavored cigars recently, like honey, mint, sour apple, and others.

We've had flavored cigarettes from Camel's for a while now, they aren't too bad, but they are sure expensive $5 a pack (Wis.) The tin is neat though.

Power to the people, and FLAVORED Cigars and cigarettes. I think i'll smoke one now.

I think they shold make tabbaco taste like shiit so people will try to quit smoking or not try to begin to smoke.

I'm guessing you don't smoke. They do taste like dung. I know, I just put one out.

The ones I'm worried about are the chocolate and candy cig's. Now kids can be as cool as a grown-up. Make the candy, but not in the shape of cig's.

Oh what the heck, make a prescription brand of cigs with opium in them.
Pfizer needs another blockbuster drug, the Viagra sales are falling off.

Now answer this, why does man alter reality through consumption of psychotrophic chemical products?

Nicotine is a psychotropic btw.

As the article states this is a blatant attempt at attracting new customers, (which of course is a gimme because the industry employs so many people it has to keep hooking people like myself).
Does anybody have anymore real evidence on what they may have put in them to test over the years. I mean think of all the smokers in the world. Don't you think that they, or we more precisely, make a pretty huge test group?
Perhaps originally it started out with no ill intentions but to simply supply those who wanted cigarettes with a product, but now could it be that chemicals are put into them on purpose. (I mean for purposes other than creating the addiction of course that one is a no brainer)

Well, thank you for being such a public servent. Without people like you, I don't know where the world would be. Let me fill you in on a thing or two. Nicotine is one of the most addictive sustances in the world. Yes, I have tried to quit in the past but the damn things are still with me. Started when I was 7, 35 years later and I can't seem to get rid of them. I may try again and if I don't succeed, I may take you up on your magnanamous offer, for YOUR children.

Ummm a little brutal and way off topic...you should be mad at BAT for even dreaming this cr@p up then having the audacity to say they are not trying to hook our kids.

The numbers are the reality www.tma.org...

Yes that's TEN BILLION DOLLARS in tobacco taxes collected in 1997 alone....alot of martini lunches on Capitol Hill

Direct your anger to the proper recipient

Wonder if sugar will be added to. I seen something on t.v once about how the was adding sugar, and when sugar is burned with nicotine. It becomes a differant drug that is more addictive then nicotine alone.

Uh, yeah.
Except I think if someone decides to smoke, it's wholly their decision and no one else's should factor into it.
Same for offering flavoured ciggs.

If companies want to offer that, then fine. People will snap it up. If someone wants to smoke a cigg, I don't think the government (or at least, with very, very rare circumstance) should inhibit that.
Good for the smoke companies to keep something new on the market.
I don't think it'll particularly effect younger kids/smokers, at least not anymore than seeing say, Ben Affleck light up in a movie.
