You're HOPING for a Coup?! Good lord. Go read some history books.

Regardless of cause, the two way is probably the officers most trusted tool. This is serious, no doubting that.

Particularly in a town like DC.

Let me know when you go?

I ll bring a couple of Uhauls and rental trucks... I got a few friends... We will clean out as much as we can

I have a few things I want myself.... fifty fifty...

I am not actually going after the Smithsonian though! That was just a ruse to draw off their forces. I am going for the U.S. Patent Office; I am going to put my name on everything!

Protoplasmic Traveler will go down in history as the inventor of the Telephone, the Light Bulb, the Atomic Bomb and most important of all, the Cross Your Heart Bra!

I will be rich beyond my wildest dreams, and all I need is this trusty old Motorola Ribbon Typewriter I have been saving for a rainy day!

I checked. The area has a system called AlertDC. Similar systems are set up in over 230 cities and metropolitan areas across the United States. This system hardware handled over 11 million text messages in the New England area during recent storms and is a two way system. I do wonder if the system lost power at critical locations if this system would go down as well.

Just what I love, a thread with a little humor to go with our fear.

Interesting story. I have never heard of this happening before anywhere.

Technicians are working on the problem but haven't disclosed a cause, according to D.C. fire.

Hmmmmmmm

Yes, strike fear in the hearts of law enforcement that they have been given a taste of their own medicine and have been infiltrated. Sinister militia are at the controls of the communications grid, ready to cut off radios at a moment's notice. Next, their body armor will start being stolen, and their police dogs led away with juicy steaks. Bombs in the squad cars like the mafia used to do- just turn that key, baby and see ya.

good one man.

My twin brother goes to school at GW so everytime some kind of national emergency happens or a huge event like this occurs in DC I get worried.

Hopefully everything will be okay and hopefully some kind of criminal activity(TPTB or regular citizen otherwise) won't occur.

A new awareness is dawning upon me ...

When the ship is going down in one's own backyard, being on ATS perhaps isn't the best place to be. Especially when details are scarce and room for conspiratorial imagination and projection abounds.

I'll be hiding under mah flagbar!

This is an interesting little tidbit.
www.eham.net...
So what else other than garage door openers can be jammed either on purpose or by accident?
I'm just glad the police are getting their communications back online.
I wonder where else this has occured?
Here is another story but it is not related to a generator problem.

From your link:

D.C. police and fire communications went down Monday evening.

"Went" implies past tense, does it not? Does it not insinuate that the problem would not be current?

I have spent a lot of time in DC and security there is so lax I'm thinking there has to be some other reason why the city (or at least the portion near the Federal buildings) stays secure.

If you ever walk by the White house, you will see one or two guards - nothing else. Even National airport has pretty relaxed screenings and short lines. You'll see very few police in subways and even in lines going close to the Pentagon have virtually no visible security.

It makes sense not to publicize security methods. It's harder to circumvent a system if you don't know it exists.

So I always wonder what exactly do they have that's not visible?

What are you talking about schrody, I just endured an explosion the other day, posted it, and together we collaborated and worked through it without freaking out too bad... ATS is the PERFECT place to be.

They can still use whistles can't they?

Perhaps they could use whistle bursts in morse code?

Too funny!

And a little bizarre.

Hmmm, not that it would ever be put out in the press, but this would be an interesting way of testing our emergency responce. I'll be a little more concerned if this "break" happens in another city or two.
What I'm having trouble getting my mind around is the generator issue. Why aren't they on the main power line? Very odd.

Let me guess, made in China?
Wouldn't that be something if such a system were taken down by a few of those hackers constantly hacking away. They seem to probe about every IP address about 125 times a day. One day they will get lucky.

It could be that simple, a generator they did not bother to back up?
embarassing isn't it.
Apparently no other businesses or residential areas were affected
by this outage..what WOULD you call it? if not a black out or brown out.

"Priority calls to police are being dispatched through the computers officers have in their cruisers. Officers also have been told to communicate via cell phone for non-priority calls."

The revolution has been subverted.

Ron Paul just came on the emergency broadcast system announcing he would be addressing the american people about his successful coup d'état within the next 5 minutes.

(okay, I know, wishful thinking, but I thought the idea might cheer some of us up)
