Within the last 8 months a good friend of mine made a trip to Mexico.
He took many tours of the various locations of the Mayan ruins. Also talked with the people.

Believe it or not this is what they had to say. Different Mayans said the same thing.

The news is just blowing up 2012 as the end of the world When it is actually just the very end of the Mayan calender.
It's just the end of the calender. It only has so many years in it then they start a whole new one.
The people my friend talked to were laughing off what America and the rest of the world has put on the new and even made films about the end of the world.
They told him that it was just a big joke to them and Life would just go on normally without any occurring than a celebration for them.

Then again, maybe the Mayans he was talking to were just feeding him lines of BS and they new something will happen.
But that's what a conspiracy is all about, right?

Let me know what you think!

I'm glad the mayans aren't trying to take advantage of this the same way charlatans do.

No, they're definitely laughing at us. If they could visit this forum and see some of the psuedoscience, they would probably laugh themselves to death.

This whole spiel about 2012 is utter nonsense. Maybe the Mayan calendar is just that, the end of the calendar and a new one will start. We really don't know why it just stops at 2012. LOL maybe they ran out of room! What ever the reason, the World is not ending. Seems to me that the Mass Media likes using fear to try and control. And to make money... anything for a dollar now!

yes we do... its been translated and explored in depth

because their calander is 13 Baktuns long ...

which is 5,120 modern calendar years...

but more precisely an exact number of days in their method of reckoning(something over 1million 869 thousand days in the long count calendar)

Any time I hear about the end of the world coming in 2012 I always take a breath and relax before I ask a few simple questions.

The Mayans went by a calendar, correct?

Do we now use calendars in modern times to effeciently keep track of time over long periods?

What happens when our Calendar ends?

That's when the ignorant scoffing usually begins.

[my take on 2012]

Those who believe mental changes will happen will search for anything which might indicate change and focus on it so much that they will be changed, however minute these changes are.

Those who believe that the world will change physically, through earthquakes, storms, politics, religion, etc., will focus on any event and trumpet it as another indication of the advent of the 2012 global change happening.

Those who believe that the End Of The World is at hand will be seen on street corners for the full year, wearing sandwich boards advertising the fact. Some will be ringing bells and shouting until they are hoarse. In 2013, they will decide it's coming in that year, citing mistakes the Mayans may have made in their math. They will join forces with other doomsayers and become a new religion unifying pagans, Orthodox Jews, Muslims and Christians alike.

[/my take on 2012]
