How you define Democratic Socialist and Communist are relative to the time and place.
Lenin was a member of the Russian Social Democratic Party.
The Social Democrats split into the radical Bolsheviks and the moderate Mensheviks.
The difference in the past between Social Democrats and Marxists was that one wanted Evolutionary Socialist change, the other wanted Revolutionary
Socialist change.
Communism itself is a utopian ideal. As one of my professors, who was born and grew up in the Soviet Union, would say: The USSR was never communist.
Communism was the dream, the goal we would reach one day. The USSR was a totalitarian socialist country. Its even in the name, the Union of the
Councils of the Socialist Republics.
So its all relative.
