"I have absolutely no influence of, involvement of, knowledge of in any way, shape or form of contracts led by the [Army] Corps of Engineers or anybody else in the Federal Government." But an internal Pentagon e-mail obtained by Time magazine reveals that Cheney's office had specific influence, involvement and knowledge of a multibillion-dollar Halliburton contract. The email, sent by an Army Corps of Engineers official, said the contract was approved contingent on informing the White House, but that the Corps "anticipate no issues since the action has been coordinated with the Vice President's office."

"Coordinated with the Vice President's office" - let the parsing of words & meanings spin furiously, but to me, that says that a sole source contract was given the push & blessing by Cheney for his former ( actually current) company.

CLAIM: I wouldn't know how to manipulate the [government contract] process if I wanted to.
 Dick Cheney, 1/22/04

FACT: A report by the Washington-based Center for Public Integrity suggested that Halliburton essentially cashed in - doubling the value of its government contracts - on Cheney. The company took in revenue of $ 2.3 billion on government contracts , which was up $1.2 billion from the five-year period before he arrived.

We have somone else asking the question. A senior member it appears. I saw this story and immediately thought about my post, that many intelligent ATS minds fail to read. The white house response was something like, It was just confirmation that there was a contract... or something like that. D. Cheney, ex-exec at Halliburton. Also learned that he and Bush II worked together in the past. Condoleeza Rice was an ex-oil industry hancho. Guess who's law firm closed many of these deals, especially for pipelines etc. James Baker of Baker & Botts. Also the shutdown man for the Florida Re-count.

I ask again, how are the same characters in every episode? DO these people know anyone else. Seems like the same Crew, has been running the ship blatantly or behind the scenes for the past 15-20 years.

If this was Bill Clinton the Republicans would have had him impeached long ago. But for whatever reason they let him get away with all this as if nothing is wrong with it.

Unfourtunately, they put holding power above duty. Though it was a local election concern for the most part, even some Democrats sided on the impeach Clinton bandwagon; where is the same fortitude from across the aisle?
Did you know that Charles Reangal drew up impeachment papers for Rumsfield.....have you head of that since? Why? Majority in bothe houses & on the Supreme Court will delay all things necessary until after the elecetion........and then it's too late.

Why must we always bring up Clinton when discussing a scandal? Does it really make a difference how corrupt he was or was not in the face of this looming scandal. While I agree that the administration should control the scope of rebuilding to companies that are based in the US, I would certainly hope that if it was proven that certain US based companies were shown favoritism over the others that an investigation would be launched.

If American tax dollars are to be used to rebuild this rat hole, I would hope the people doing the labor and paid by them at least be American. For example, I would hope the Bin-Laden Family wouldn't be getting any work but ya never know. They are probably subcontractors leaching off us in some way as well. Thats a good point of research. Are the Bin-Ladens getting any work from Haliburton or any other company working in there?

It may be Bin Laden's family reaping the benefits of the American Halliburton employee's. Bin Laden's family has been in bed with memebers of the current administration for years. Oh, by the way Halliburton employs many people, of many different races and geographical locations, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and other Middle eastern countries.
