If an insurance for your car is mandatory, why healthcare insurance wouldn't be ?

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I think you ask some good questions and bring up some excellent points. I can speak only for myself here and why this whole business really bothers me.

There is nothing constitutional about the federal government requiring a private citizen (or in this case, every resident in the country) to purchase something. Now I know an argument can be made that a helluva lot of what the current federal government does is insupportable constitutionally. I think this issue may very well be a tipping point. Many people who haven't given it a whole lot of thought may suddenly begin to realize where we are and what we've allowed to happen.

It's happened over a long period of time, in gradual increments. This one is big. Really big. Bigger and more obvious than almost anything that has come previously, except maybe Social Security, but that's a whole different discussion. It's going to take awhile for people to realize what's happened here, and digest the contents of this monstrosity. You think you hate the Internal Revenue Service now? Just wait.

"It's for your own good". Rings about as true as, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you".

Answers, I don't have. I just happen to believe that as answers go, this is a really bad one.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

I understand very well what you say.

But look : there are many levels of insurance.
The only one which is mandatory is the LOWEST level : the one which covers the damages you could do to someone ELSE than yourself.

Same for healthcare : you can choose to pay an insurance which puts you in a palace if you fall ill.
But you can choose also to cover the fees that someone ELSE than yourself (like taxpayers, for instance) would pay if you didn't have this insurance. That is a very low level of insurance, and that's why it is mandatory : you MUST be able to pay for the lowest level. Otherwise, somebody else than you will.

By the way, even if I have great confidence in the alternative medecine, I don't think that herbs can repair a broken leg, neither that a bullet can be pulled out by Homeopathics, etc ...

Well fortunately, I can set my own leg, as long as no bones are protruding, because I'd probably go into shock there; I am first aid and cpr qualified, I could also take a bullet out of myself if need be, as long as I can see it, as I was an Emergancy Medical Tech in the ARMY. Not that I plan on getting shot anytime soon, but even if I could not see it, I could tell someone else what to do, as long as they were intelligent enough to comprehend. Besides if TSHTF there aint gonna be no doctors working, now would there? And as a citizen I would perform these tasks for them in the situation and not expect a crapload of money to pay for my services. Now when you're talking cancer and heart conditions, then there may be issues with holistic medicine. But, in that event I'd choose to die in dignity, as the treatment is worse and makes you sicker than the actual disease.
edit to add:

And I will pay directly out of my pocket for any trips to the ER that I have taken because it aint retroactive, which if I am paying for something like this, it should be.
WE should not be made to pay to Insurance companies for healthcare

The better answer would be to pay a tax to universal healthcare and eliminate the greedy insurance co. middlemen. Because they are the reason healthcare costs are so frikkin high in the first place...you would not here me complain if they wanted to do it socialized, but now we are facing it the facist way, which sucks and stinks to no end!

Are you trying to say that people are more important than cars?

What kind of car?

Sorry didn't read the thread but isn't the answer obvious? You can choose not to have a car. You can't choose not to have health.

Sure you can, just take a trip to the hospital and say your sick of paying health insurance and want to end your life. With any luck euphanasia will be covered under health care reform for people who want this option.
