At this time, you need to get the box open but cannot get or know the code.

But you wouldn't have to put them in the box, as long as you used a date the boatman doesn't know but your friend does. You could just send the boatman back with the note (which wouldn't actually say the numbers of the date, just the reference) and the box.

I know, I know, there's a better solution out there. I'm just throwing out possibilities

Fine, I put my own darn lock on the box, along with a nasty note to my friend to remove his darn lock. Then, he can send it back to me (with only my lock on it), and I can eat my darn apple in peace..

Thanks...once past the red herring of the combination lock, it was a little easier to puzzle out...

With a combination in there, it had me going in circles looking at word clues in the original narrative. If it was just worded as a padlock, may have been a bit easier, hehe...

My preferred answer is to kill the boatman and take his boat, but hey, I knew that wasn't it....

P.S. I was about this close to trying to Google it....but something tells me I wouldn't have found it anyhow....

That was my objective the whole puzzle. When you want something but an evil boatman is constantly in your way of achieving your goals then all you need is and :bash: with some good healthy mixed with a lot of because that A$$ boatman just want to make your life as miserable as possible . Now im mad as hell over a puzzle lol!:bnghd:
