Got a little puzzle for you to try to solve...

You live on one side of a wide river filled with meat eating beasts (ie, they'll eat you if you go for a swim).

Your best friend lives on the other side of the river.

Your friend sends a message across to you by using a man who has a boat built for one. The message says that you will be receiving the best apple of the year, but it will be in a padlocked (combination type) box, in case the man with the boat eats it instead

You send a message back accepting the apple.

A day later, the padlocked box arrives...without the combination code... (the man in the boat could have used the code to open the box)

How do you get to the juicy, yummy, best-of-crop apple inside?

You chuck the box in the river...let the beasts much and break it open.... and as they're meat eaters, They'll leave the apple to float to the surface and voila...lovely, juicy apple for you

Or you send the guy in the boat back and tell him to bring the code, as you have the box he can't steal it.

lol...

as you reach out to grab the apple from the river, a lurking beastie jumps up, grabs your amr and drags you in...

Your friend can't give the boat man the code as he has a good memory and will remember it for the next time your friend sends anything else over..

Hmmmmm..... okay, ya got me there.

Why would you use the same code....

And why do you need a guy to bring the stuff?
If a man and the box can fit in the boat, why doesn't your friend just bring it himself?

The boat only has room for one man.

Your friend has no idea how to stear a boat, the man in the boat is protective of it and wont let anyone else use it..he bought it, after all..

The code on the padlock is factory set...

This has a whiff of... "I'm making it up as I go along"

But I shall persist.

Indeed it does, so your friend has room to come over.

Your friend has no idea how to stear a boat,

I'm pretty sure crossing a river will not require any special courses or training... he's going across a river, not sailing the Atlantic.

the man in the boat is protective of it and wont let anyone else use it..he bought it, after all..

Where was this stated in the op?

I say just throw the bloody apple across the river :shk:

The code on the padlock is factory set...

Hmmmm...... in my (very limited) knowledge of locks/codes, all can be reset... I'm sure.

The boat has room for one man..ie the man who owns the boat..the man who rows the boat...

yes it's made up as we go along.. I makimng up the responses to show it's the wrong answer..

Your friend tried throwing an apple last year but he not too good at it and it fell in the water 12 feet too short of your shore.

The padlocks are sealed units, preset at the factory.. just to be awkward

So now he rows the boat.... you mentioned "steering" the boat before... what exactly is this vessel?

A row-boat, a kayak.... a dinghy?

I am perplexed?

Hmmmmm... How wide is the river?

Just me bloody luck eh?

As for this "Mystery" boat man, he's dodgy... I don't like him.
He takes people across the river, for no reason and no charge, but he'd steal your apple given the chance?

How about... he comes across.... stays on my side... I go in the boat, (if he has a problem, I'm smack him in the chops) as it's me and not my friend in the boat now, my 8 years at sea-scouts come in handy as I steer/row the boat across to my friend (who happens to be a really hot chick) and we make love and share the apple and just lie there.... in the moment.

The boat is one of those little round things..think they're called coracles..

The river is wide enough not to be able to throw anything across..

and yes, the boat man is dodgy...that's why we cant trust him with any codes, keys, apples, bits of rope .. lock picks, spare change, dead shrimp, frying pans, clogs fob watches

You were in the Sea Scouts... this does not help... there is a river..not a sea

Maybe 'apple' is your friends lame codeword for a box with an apple in it? :shk:

Or so you'd think eh?

I lived miles from any sea so all my scout training was done on lakes and rivers... the rivers all being very similar to the one in my current situation, so it would help immensely.

Kayaking and Hijacking boats from strange and solitary/greedy/stubborn men was another skill I learned.

I'm sure the beasts have something to do with it.

Anyway, I have no idea dude.

Also... f*** the apple.... I'm getting all cannibalistic on "The greedy, thieving Boatman's" ass man... well... not just his ass obviously, all of him.

He's my dinner

If it's a river, the friend on the other side can shout the code to me or draw it on a board and hold it up.

The boatman's done his job! He can go.

Throw the boatman into the river and go over to your friend.

So you have the box but no code?
Your friend has the code but is on the other side of the river that you can't get across because of the selfish boatman and some nasties in the river.

I say you pick up the telephone and call your friend to ask for the code.

It better be the best apple of the year.

You can't hold a board up with the code on it, the boatman has got binoculars.. he believes in health and safety, even crossing a river he checks where he's going... and he's a nosey old git anyway, so he's always spying ..

C4 destroys the apple...

There is no year, this is a fictional land with a fictional river, apple people etc..
It could have been set at any time, any place

If there was a telephone, your friend would not have needed the boatman to send you a message that an apple in a locked box was coming

Can't throw the boatman in the river, that's murder

Brace yourself for the most rediculous answer ever. The guy acquires the box and tells the meat eating beasts to open the box for him with raw strengh and in return can get the boatman to come to their land and eat him. So they do it and he has his apple and the meat eaters get their boatman, problem solved.
