By myFOXDetroit.com Staff

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Officials plan to lay off 57 police officers in Flint by the end of the month, a move that has some people concerned about public safety.

Flint, Mi has suffered from the recession for 30yrs. Loseing 120,000 jobs, with the same amount of population loss. The city is down sizeing all govt. to deal with lack of money. The police dept. is patroling abandoned neighborhoods with few residents. The crime stats have fallen rapidly over the last few years due to:
1- better sentenceing guide lines
2- much lower population levels
3- the thugs are killing each other off, good for them
4- few people have cars now in the "Vehicle City"

If the gov. was to send in troops it would be to guard something or take over something. The 10 General Motors plants are gone, you can land airplanes where these factories were located. Also the people of Flint would not go easy. I guess it could be an experiment on a medium size city to see how bloody their nose would get. It would not be a good sight on either side. I know this city well and was also in the U.S.Army

Flint is a fairly dangerous place for the common citizen.

It will be VERY interesting to see the results. I've always acknowledged the fact that armed citizens and an organized "block watch" is hundreds of times more effective than police (police in my experience are near useless except to file police reports for insurance claims).

It will be very interesting to see how the citizens respond.

Also it will be interesting to see how gangs respond. They might experience decreased violence because the gang's may be able to feel less pressure and could possible expand territory, reducing clashes with rival gangs.

Edit: incredible grammar issues.. wow

I agree.........sorta. Maybe we are thinking to deep about this. Flint is a tuff city, has and always will be. Large gangs do not thrive here it's to tough for them cops/locals wil not let them. Come visit.......I know a few persons that never wanted to leave.
