Just seen this looks like it's going to hit the sun.
spaceweather.com...

A newly-discovered comet is plunging toward the sun and probably will not survive. The encounter is too close to the sun for human eyes to see, but the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) is able to monitor the action using an opaque disk to block the sun's glare. Click on the image to launch a 12-hour time-lapse animation:
The doomed comet is probably a member of the Kreutz sungrazer family. Named after a 19th century German astronomer who studied them in detail, Kreutz sungrazers are fragments from the breakup of a giant comet at least 2000 years ago. Several of these fragments pass by the sun and disintegrate every day. Most are too small to see but occasionally a big fragment--like this one--attracts attention.

I do not think this will do any harm to us will prob be disintegrated by the sun still nice to keep an eye on.

One less comet will not make much difference, and since it's probably going to be vaporized before it gets very close, not even much of a show.

So true but i think it's good to see there's no doom and gloom here only for this Comet but it's journey had to end somewhere one less to worry about.

THANKYOU

I have to disagree with the notion this kind of thing makes no difference.
True we prolly won't miss a comet. I think everything that happens to the sun has an impact on earth. muo.

You can see the one that Hit at the 7-8 o'clock position of this gif with the CME. The second one is getting ready to hit and looks like it is going to be a whopper!!

Been a lot of comets hitting the sun this year. I assume it's normal... well I hope it's normal.

Comets are mostly ice so its not going to do much to the sun.

One less comet out there to worry about bumping into us someday

Wow. You should study astronomy some more
Do you have any idea of the relative sizes of a comet and the sun? That was a rhetorical question, as clearly you don't

Your concerns are akin to worrying about an elephant being affected by a single ant leg falling on it.

Here it can be seen from a different point of view. STEREO B, 93 million miles "behind" us. Too soon I think to know for sure if it hit, it might have made it around the backside (or just evaporated first)

That wasn't a comet!...

that was the Annuki mothership!

they overshot their destination by 3.5 a.u. and unfortunately shot straight into the sun!...

oh well, guess their debut in 2012 won't be happening this time. Maybe in another 3600 years. Can anyone send out a packet to the Pledian system to report to them the demise of their invaders?

Thanks in advance...

That one was a Russian rocket.

If you see closely there are two small comets before the big one hit, and a smaller fourth one afterwards!

(all within the same line of direction)
