You guys don't know?

Earth Hour is just something concocted by the government so that people turn off all the power in major cities so that they can conduct Black Ops operations on massive scales.

Geez, I thought you'd all be aware of that.

S+F this almost escaped my mind until I came here to read about something unrelated. I was always planning to be outside tonight to go UFO watching, this just makes it even more special knowing i'm participating in Earth Hour aswell.

great thread! It's always good to see a thread that isn't a debbie downer. Earth is in trouble and us humans are to blame and we humans are the only ones who can save her.

I will participate in this and shut off everything in my house!

I think it is an awesome idea! I am totally in!! Thumbs up for encouraging others to join in! It is such a little effort really, and if people only knew what great effects this can have. Come on guys, what do you have to loose?

Instead of turning one low energy light bulb off for one hour to feel good about yourself, how about making a concerted effort to cut your energy consumption throughout the year ?

And use the money you save to treat yourself and your partner to a nice expensive restaurant meal

Earth hour is like carbon credits: a pointless sop to make the ignorant feel better whilst they totally ignore all the real problems.

A ridiculously beautiful thread!!

I am all for the meditation during that hour. I am filled the to the brim with positive energy today, and I will make sure I pass it on to our Mother Earth.

Hubby and I were already planning to defy this stupid eco movement anyway (lights are on in all rooms (non-eco bulbs of course)- check, tv is on- check, pc is on- obviously or I wouldn't be typing this
) but we weren't aware of Human Achievement Hour - thanks for the link.

In my opinion all the climate change nonsense is from people who would rather we lived in the dark ages, and who want to ignore all the fantastic achievements humans have made. Well done for making us aware of the other (ie sensible) point of view.

I remember when I lived in Calgary, during Earth Hour they actually consumed something like 3.5% more electricity that hour

Cities in BC seem to do better because they're more aware of where their electricity comes from - hydroelectric dams all over the province. We did pretty good last year in the Okanagan area.

The reduction in the B.C. electricity load during the hour in 2009 was 1.1 per cent, BC Hydro spokesperson Simi Heer said in a news release Friday. That was down from the 2008 load reduction of two per cent, Heer said. BC Hydro will measure Earth Hour savings again this year.

Heer said that if everyone who participated in Earth Hour in 2009 did the same thing for an hour every day, the combined savings would be enough to power 2,400 homes for an entire year.

Participating institutions include Science World, Vancouver City Hall, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre and Planetarium, Lions Gate Bridge, the Pacific Central [railway] Station, Fairmont hotels and Simon Fraser University, Heer said.

Some suggested ways to participate include: Turning off unnecessary lights.
Turning off or unplugging electronics.
Unplugging chargers.
Delaying washing clothes and dishes until after 9:30 p.m.

Well for those who left the lights on. I hope you enjoy the extra electricity charges for doing a needless cause, other than to spite those wanting to do good for this world. Talk about capitalist ideas brainwashing the masses when a simple one hour of turning off the lights cant even be achieved without mockery or ridicule.

I had a great time on the field looking up at the stars, observing the Constellations, the 3/4 Moon illuminating the ground and being at peace. Wether that's a bad thing to anyone else doesn't really concern me, as I know that was something only *I* experienced in this village, and only a few million people in this world would also experience.

For those who ridiculed and can't see the point in tearing themselves away from technology to acknowledge the very thing that created them so they could exist, I pity you.

How mature.

How is wasting money being sensible? It is like a rebelling teenager getting a nose ring because their parents won't like it. Congrats, now you got a hole in your nose.

What message are you sending? How to use old and outdated technology to jack your electricity bill?

Whether you accept climate change or not doesn't mean you sit on older technology that burns fuel. Fuel is limited, whether there is climate change or not.

If I seem to remember, some of the founding fathers were inventors and would of welcomed efficient and modern technology.

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Hi C-Jean. Thanks for your links. I am sure many more readers here on ATS would be grateful for the link so as a confirmation of their own mental awareness.

And thanks to the religious faithful for your prayers to the Almighty to heal and protect our world, to the spiritualists whom send your directed energies to complement our magnetospheres, and to the free-thinkers for your kind thoughts to heal our one and only home - Earth, as well as those who turn off their home lights. Every bit counts I guess.

The insignificant me is in position to declare this experiment a success or a failure, as only time will tell in the next few months if our weather and earth crust remains stable or better.

As I mentioned before, any failure is mine, but if it is success, it is you, open participants here as well as the silent readers on this thread, who made it possible. With such powers to influence, heal and protect our environment, may we no longer fear anything that comes.

Cheers! :-)

Just a reminder, Earth hour is just around the corner this year - 8.30pm Saturday 26th March 2011.

Even though we may perhaps had stop meditating after Earth hour 2010, as we all do have pressing lives to live, perhaps some will want to try again this year 2011.

It doesn't take much to meditate, regardless if we are christians, muslims, jews, buddhists, hindus, atheists, etc, etc. Earth is our one and only current homeworld. It is up to us to try our best to help her. It doesnt need manuals, or expensive tutorships by charlettans.

All you need is to sit down, be comfortable, hold your breathe for 10 secs to still your beating heart, then let it out, and breathe normally. As you breathe, just focus on beautiful thoughts of our homeworld - Nigara falls, sunset over Egypt pyramids, Alps in the warm blue springs, misty virgin forests of Vietnam, etc, etc.

There is so much beauty in this world, and is worth every bit of our help to save her. She had given us shelter for millenia, hosting several different civilisations for ages, as she, our spaceship Eartth, wanders through the Universe.

Sometimes, that focus will be broken by the ugliness or tragedies we see in this world, espacially through our own greed.

Japan had long been known for its cherry blossoms, but sadly, many of those precious blossoms are dead right now. But with our knowledge and will, the Japanese people will once again nurture those precious icons back to health. just as we will attempt to nurture Earth through our knowledge and will, never giving up no matter how many setbacks we will face.......

Good luck and cheers! :-)

An immodest bump from me. Today is Saturdary the 26th Mar 2011 as countries near the GMT is experiencing.

No one will be forced to do this. But to those who wish to attempt it, you and I have a date tonight at 8.30pm in every timezone whereever your are.

Good luck and cheers! ;-)
