What do you think?

Linda Goodman is the Author of the Astrology books, "Love Signs, "Sun Signs" and "Star Signs".

"THE GUN THAT SHOT ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND IS DISPLAYED ON THE WALL OF FORDS

THEATER TODAY IS A WOMAN'S DERRINGER WITH A WHITE PEARL HANDLE!!

Would anyone (especially a man in the 1860s) in their right mind try to

kill the President of the United States with a one shot small pistol

normally carried by a woman? Six shooter revolvers existed in the 1860s

and if one were to plot to kill a President, one would logically have

more than one bullet in the barrel.

Mary Todd Lincoln, like many women in Washington during the American

Civil War carried a derringer....But Mary Todd also owned a derringer

with a white pearl handle....that fact is in the National Archives. And

she waved, flashed and flaunted her pearly pop gun often on the streets

of Washington D.C. and The White House."

Assuming Booth was familiar with the president's security protocol, he likely expected to
encounter a Union soldier/bodyguard on the stairs or outside the door to
Lincoln's balcony box, and as an actor he would likely have been allowed
through, possibly after he passed a cursory pat down from the guard. (As luck would have it the guard had stepped outside and was not at his post)

That would have meant avoiding any obvious bulges or carrying any objects that could not be easily secreted on his person.

Perhaps because he expected to shoot Lincoln at point blank range, a single shot .41 cal Philadelphia Deringer (an original made by Deringer and spelled with one "r") was selected because it could be hidden in his groin area, a place often left untouched during cursory pat downs, at least by men searching other men. (Booth had a valid reason to be in the theater and likely wouldn't have aroused undue suspicion)

That this type of single shot pistol was the right choice was evidenced by the fact that he...or someone.... did in fact murder Lincoln with one.

Also, the gun used to kill Lincoln
did not have pearl grips
(or any grips for that matter)
